Is hard for me to take a decision, because i am a dog owner, but my pet dog is very well educated, and is in my yard, never in my neighbor's yards. I will call police to say all what happened, but i am not sure that they will take a decision, to punish this crazy man who let his dog free, and attack even kids, in the street. If you have a pet dog, or if you know a solution for this, you can tell me what can i do; you can imagine, this dog kill all my 15 chickens...i want to say that i never kill a chicken to eat it, i just keep this chickens for eggs, and because i like to have all kind of animals in my yard; so...what i can do, because i am afraid that next time this stupid dog, with a crazy master will atack somebody, maybe a kid or other pet....

I too am a pet owner and I personally would be very upset. I think that it is important that you speak to the police and if they don't do anything about it, I would request to have the dog taken away. While the dog itself might just be untrained, it is still becoming a danger to those around it. If this dog has attacked your chickens and other children, I think that something needs to be done and very soon. Who is to say that you won't get attacked next. As a pet owner I make certain that my dog stays in my yard and when I take him out, he is ALWAYS on a leash. I would never let my dog go into my neighbors yard, nor would I let him roam free to kill the area pets around us. I think that this guy needs to be taught a lesson, if he is going to be a pet owner, he needs to do so respectfully and responsibly and if he can't do that, he should be allowed to have pets. I hope that the police will at least make him replace your chickens, otherwise I would be pressing charges. I hope that things work out for you, happy mylotting.

dear ice, it is not fair to you to just let it pass. you should talk to the dog owner and if he does not compensate you with the damage his dog has done, i think you should bring the problem to the right authorities. that way, he will be more careful next time he lets the dog out. he has to keep an eye on it always when loose. the danger of it attacking other animals and human is a responsibility of the dog owner. have a happy new year ice. ann

Ohhhh, very sad about your chickens. Really you should sue this person for all the damages done to you. Really this all will go in favour to you because this all happened on your own property. If I could be in your place i would have done this to him. I am an animal lover and never do any favour who does any kind of damages to the animals.

I think you should lodge a complaint with the police as it is dangerous if the dog bites somebody on the road. Dogs have rabies and if they are infected with it and if they bite someone that person can also die.It is the dog-owners responsibility to see that his pet is always on a leash so that it doesn`t roam freely and into other peoples property. If someone does something like this in my country a complaint is immediately lodged with the cops who take action and see that it is not repeated. If the owner does not listen then the dog is captured and taken to the dog pound and the owner has to pay a fine.

he should make sure his dog dont get out of his yard, its his responalbty to make sure his dog is secure. and if the dog had attack other people and kids. yeah they need to put that dog down before he serouisly hurt someone or kill them. once a dog get a taste of blood its worthless.

First off fence in your yard so therefore no dog is going to be able to come in. At least that way if something happens again you can say that you put the measures up to where it can't happen. And the fence needs to be the kind of fence that will keep dogs out. Now if your chickens go off after that and don't stay fenced in then you don't really have a claim because you have to ensure your pets safety to a degree as well.

Hi icesmile~ I think that you really have a tough decision to make. I am an animal lover, but if this dog is dangerous to animals and possibly humans too then you need to report him. As much as I hate to say this, being an avid animal lover, a dog killing 15 chickens is a menus to society and if you feel that this dog and his owner could possibly be a harm to children the you need to do what you have to do and report the dog. I know that they will probably put the dog down, but in this case I'm afraid it is warranted. God forgive me~ You can't let an out of control animal that is killing other animals have free reign! I'm sorry about your chickens and you should make this man pay for them!

I would not let this go to be honest. First off you need to press charges against this man and his dog. Secondly I would take him to court and sue him for the damages done. The fact that your chickens were killed on your property by his pet. Find out the total cost of each bird, damage done to the yard, etc. Contact a lawyer. You have a good case and will probably win quite easily. This man needs to understand that he can't let his dog do this and should be punished. I am an animal lover as well, but there are some people who just don't understand and need to be taught lessons on proper care for animals.
