Every so often we hear of a once-famous person dying, and are surprised that they weren't already dead. My latest entry in this category is Oral Roberts. Heard on the news the other day that he had died. He was 91. As my heading states, I thought he was already dead. (Didn't he once say that God would strike him dead if he didn't raise X-amount of dollars for his cause...?)

I never heard about Oral Roberts passing away but no doubt he probably would be 91.
When I was young I used to watch him on TV all the time and I always did think he was a bit of a nut case when he'd take people by the head and yell HEAL. Then one day I was walking in the fruit orchard picking wild asparagus and I could hear sobbing and knew someone was crying but I couldn't see where it was coming from so I followed the sobs. There on the ground sat a young fellow we had known very well. He was mentally slow to some degree and I asked him what the problem was. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a letter for me to read so I did. To my shocking eyes I read the words that went something like this. Dear ---- It has come to my attention we have not heard from you in some time and regret to inform you that unless a donation can be made in the next few days we will no longer be able to continue prayers and correspondence for you. Yours truly Oral Roberts. Well that did it for me I never watched his shows again and when I got home I actually called his prayer line and even though I had to pay for the call I was told Oral never took personal calls and I was asked what I needed. Even after all I've been through this last year I am still too much a lady to tell you what I said on the phone that day but it was very clear, loud and easy to understand. May he rest in piece.

And good for you for sticking up for that fellow.
