What do you think of teachers?

December 18, 2009 7:15pm CST
I am currently qualifying to become a teacher at the minute and having worked in a school for 3 years now I am embarrased by some of my fellow professionals and the Eduacation administrators. There are many good people within the system who really care about the Young people they work with. However I do not like the way the Unions go on about teachers pay. I for one have had a brother who has been out of work for 6 months and a father who although retired now was made redundant 3 times as i was growing up. In the Economic Climate as it is I feel painfully embarrased when people are critical of how mucg teachers get paid. What are others views on teachers and this issue?

The main reason for that is that they dont get paid enough for what they do they should get more because they are a valiable asset to our children.... There is allot of hard work to be done inside and outside of work when being a teacher it is a really big Job.... I worked as a teachers aid and then went on to get my diploma in children services which is working with young children... I was going to go on and do a teachers degree but had my son... Then fell ill and wasnt able to continue... Dont be embarrased, be Proud that you are contributing to these childrens future.... All The Best with Your studies I hope You acheive High Marks...

well. that's just one job actually do it as better as you can so you can enjoy the higher salary and other welfare also.maybe someone attached too much to the teachers and there are really too many teachers spolied by the monmey nowdays and not care about their job .they do not trying to know how to teach the student good but try to earn more from them.

I have a very high appreciation for teachers. The roll a teacher plays in a child's life is very important. I feel that the educators job needs better recognition, not only by parents but by everyone around them as well. They deserve higher pay than many jobs that are out there currently. Many teachers are in very high risk situations due to abusive children, etc. I feel for them and worry about them all the time. I commend you for taking on this task of becoming a teacher.

I think teacher is a very glorious profession and this professional is crucial to the future society and future generation. As you said, sometimes the system doesn't give enough attention or welfare to teachers. That's not a reason for teachers to treat students without responsibility. In China, there are lots of teachers in rural area teaching students with very low salary, even lower than the minimum salary standard. In my country, teachers are highly respected. It is because of our tradition. The feeling of cultivate successful students cannot be bought with money. Someday soon, your edu. system will realize the significance of teachers and they would make new policy to treat teachers better, I hope so.

For me teachers is our second parent, since school is our second home. They are our mentor and guidance while we are young. They are teaching academically, physically, socially, and even religiously. I think Government should be seriously solve this issue, we even had the same problem in our country. Being a teacher is a very tough job so I wish they will give the right payment for them. Our teacher here still received minimum pay, that is why some of them transfer to call center and do not teach at all because the government failed them.

teacher are i think most respected among all professionals. In India I see teachers are not earning much, but the name and fame they earn, the respect from their disciples and their parents give them lot of satisfaction in life. This is more visible in rural areas than in urban areas.

I before to the working group right now and had been doing great with my chosen profession. But if I compare it with teacher's I think that my job is nothing compare to it. We see lots of different kinds of teachers during our entire years of schooling. Many of them, I still hate up to this day. But the good thing is that those teachers I hated the most are the one who made the best impact of my life. Now I know how hard it is to become a teacher.

Teacher - Responsible for contributing people of the future
I think you are a good teacher cause you don't mind how much is the pay for you, but i think you are working and pursuing your career as a real noble career. You are doing your job because because you have passion for it and you love to share what you know and you want to produce contributory citizens in the future and that is good. Just like you, i do not like those unions and rally about salary increase of teachers, but as a Development Education major, little by little, i am noticing the real problem. How can we have the so called "quality education" if the teacher itself is not much motivated. Meaning, even if he/she is a very good teacher, they are still humans and have their basic needs, try to think of it this way, the world at present is under an economic downfall, and a low salary will surely not help the people. Do you think if the teacher is hungry or his/her family is hungry, he/she can teach well? Being a teacher is really hard, i am assuming you know that cause you are already teaching for 3 years. It is really tough being a teacher. Anyway, the problem with other teachers is that, they are wanting so much increase which is not anymore good. it is ok to have an increase but it is not ok to make it much more higher, cause they need to think that the people who are running the school also needs money. They need money to maintain a school, for security for renovations, development and more. If you will ask me what is a teacher, i think, a teacher is a tool for the development of the society. Why? because they are the one who are producing future leaders of the world. It is not an easy task, cause a wrong move or wrong teaching will surely create a non contributory citizen and a non good leader. All in all, it is ok to increase, it is ok to have unions cause it is on the law, but it is not good to abuse the power of the union for any self motives and abuse the asking for a high salary. Cause if the school falls because of that very large amount of salary, i am sure, all of them will have their work vanished. Have a great day!

I think they are a very important part of society although they are not often respected by kids. They play a very important rule as they educate people. Education is one of the main things to being successful. Personally I think they should be payed more, as they are doing a very crucial and important job. You have to be pretty smart to be able to teach.

I think teachers are just like everyone else... there are good ones and bad ones. I had a teacher in high school that really sucked... he wouldn't be in the room at all... so much to the point people would smoke in his class, he would just say read your books and on Friday we'd have a test... there was no teaching at all. I also was blessed to have a teacher that honestly changed my life. She was a grade school teacher and went way above and beyond for me. I remember the last day of school we both cried. I've even stayed in contact with her. I can even say i love her!

I am a nurse in profession but I am currently working as an online English teacher. I know you are talking about a different kind of teacher in which you deal with students in elementary, high school, or college. Though, I am a different kind of teacher, I can still understand how difficult teaching is. My father is a public school teacher in high school. He has been teaching high school students for more than 10 years now. He will soon 60 next year and I hope that he will already plan of retiring from his job because I know that teaching is never really easy for him. My father is a very good teacher but some times, it is very hard to escape from some bad issues and rumors. Aside from issues, the salary of teachers here in our country is not enough to compensate with the hard work of the teachers. I am really proud of my father and to all other teachers as well. I guess it is one of the best professions a person could ever have.

I use to want to be a teacher while I was younger but I've chosen to eventually go into the Medical Field just as my mom did, she's inspired me too do that as a career and I grew up around it so I know it very well. To be honest, I admire teachers a lot, I know a lot of people wouldn't be able to handle that sort of job but I know there's always contract issues going on and the possibility of teacher's going on strike and I wouldn't want to deal with that. Also some of these young female teachers who go after the young male students, that is a no no and why would you do that and want to throw your entire career away and basically your life as well, it's unspeakable and I'll never understand it.

You are definitely right about it we teachers are underpaid where in fact we were working more than 8 hours a day. We are stress because of the kids emotionally upset because some are not studyig their heart out they just take it for granted. Although education is the backbone of every nations economy but it seems the Governement is taking it for granted. Its a pity to see children who likes to study but cannot afford to do so. Teachers diverts to another job from teaching because of the underpaid from their being a teacher.

Teachers are the main catalyst for a change when we speak on all good effects brought by education. Teaching is a gift naturally from a burning desire to impart ones skills and learnings. We must also consider the fact that we all became successful professionals because of these uniquely talented people, who are willing and capable of serving the public, they are the teachers. I am not a teacher but I have a high regards on them.
