Imagine driving a Zamboni at an intermission during a Stanley Cup playoff game... A few weeks ago, one of my myLot friends here started a discussion about the best fantasy job in hockey (thanks jewels49). I think I put in something about being the analyst in between benches. I think being the Zamboni driver trumps that. You get to be in the ice, and people do cheer for you. I've seen it happen even minor league games. That'll be a sweet gig. Would you like to be one? And drive the zamboni?

You are very welcome bounce58..That would be cool. This is the year the zamboni turned 60 I think.. A couple of games ago the little kids at the joe all got miniature zambonis that were red with the wings logo on them..They were freaking adorable. Sarah would appreciate all the pretty ice for her freshly sharpened skates to glide around on.

The ones the wings gave away were inflatable and designed to look like the first one they had ordered. They were totally cool, the guys were playing with them during the game. I'm sure it was a guy thing It's never too late to talk to santa bounce, especially if it's one of the good guys like you..age is not something santa concerns himself with.

Driving a zamboni would be awesome! I've known many zamboni drivers because I've skated and hung out at many rinks. Mainly they're just the folks that learned to drive one simply because they worked there! I know it's more glamorous to drive one during a real hockey game where the crowds are though. There's a total art to cleaning the ice . . . some are great at it - some are baaaaaad. I love how the ice looks after they sweep the water over it - all smooth and glossy looking! Sure, I wouldn't mind doing it!! Even if it's just to wave hi at a kid who's watching in awe - hee hee!

And when you're a skater (or hockey player), you appreciate good ice . . . if you know the zamboni driver, you just know how well (or not) they cut the ice. So if you're good ... you get an awesome reputation!

...a kid who's watching in awe... You're right about that. Not only kids, even grown ups can't seem to take their eyes off when the zamboni's roll around the ice. Maybe it's the fascnination of ice after they sweep water over it. Thanks.

Hello Bounce. Driving a Zamboni sounds interesting, if only to do it once or twice. I have seen them live when they were sweeping the ice skating arenas for the public in my city. I can't say that this is a job i would want to do forever, but it may well qualify for a one time only / one day only job to do. I haven't watch NHL, the only thing close to this was watching "The mighty ducks" movies, but in that one i haven't seen the Zamboni / they did not show it in the film.

I think it is a sweet gig if you did it once or twice. I think I would love this as a part time job. Of course I wouldn't like it if it were my only full time job.

Hi Bounce, do you have to keep stopping it to sell ice creams? It looks just like an ice cream van.

Hi thea. No, it doesn't sell ice cream. But people do wave at it, or at least at the driver when it's out on the ice. I guess you can put decals on the sides to make it look like it's selling ice cream. And It does look like an ice cream van with the driver at the back. I guess, the big bulky thing out in the front houses the machine that makes fresh sheets of ice.

On second thoughts it looks more like a lego van. How can he see to drive it from behind?

Oh yeah! It takes some skill to drive it from behind. Wink wink Reference to other things that needs skills when it is driven from behind! Sorry, couldn't help it...

What a GREAT discussion!!!!! I would drive it but I definitely don't want to ride. If you ride they show you up on the jumbotron. No thank you. It would be cool driving it during a Stanley Cup game!!!

I wouldn't mind being shown on the jumbotron! I'll get my face painted. I did see a game once, where there were 2 zambonis on the ice and the drivers were sponsored by the local tux rental shop. So they looked pretty cool, like a couple of penguins(not the 09 cup winning variety) driving the zambonis.

Why yes. I certainly would like to drive the Zamboni. There is a song by Gear Daddies called "I Wanna Drive a Zamboni." It was featured in the movie Mystery, Alaska. The song kind of has a country twang to it. Not a good song, but a glorious machine.

I think I've heard that song before. I couldn't remember all the other words except for that line I wanna drive a zamboni. I think it's cool driving it. Specially if it's like a playoff game, and the home team is winning, and kids waving at you from the stands! Thanks for dropping by.
