Do you have any pocket doors in your house? Pocket doors are ones that slide into the wall rather than swing open and closed. I have one in my present home for the door into the main bathroom. I also had one in my previous house that also was for the bathroom. I wish I had more since they don't require the space in a room for the door when it is open.

I've constantly seen pocket doors on different design and remodel shows and I've always wanted them. It's kind of like you said - they don't require extra space to be available when you are opening the door. The only thing I worry about it how much time and money it would take to install them.

I can't answer you questions about time and money since the houses I had them in where built that way and thus had the pocket doors when I bought the house. Some things that enter are that they probably can't be in a load bearing wall and not wires for light switchs, etc. would be possible on the side of the doorway where the door slides into the wall.

I have one to the cat room and one to the laundry room, but the one to the cat room is having a problem and I don't really know who to call to get it fixed... I'm having to use a screwdriver to leaver it open...

I had one when I lived in a fifth wheel, but I haven't lived there in 9 years.

I've constantly seen them and I'm so jealous! They are ingenious! No question about where to move things in a room because the door is never in the way. I've also seen outside screen doors that are pocket doors as well. Those are just wonderful and I wouldn't have to worry about a screen getting ripped. That would save so much money where I wouldn't have to replace the screens because of naughty cats thinking they're climbing posts.
