on-line shopping

Hi, shoppers! I do almost all my shopping on-line, and I usually feel as if I get much better deals than if I went to the mall. I wonder if anyone knows whether these are actually better buys. I do remember to include shipping charges in making these decisions, and I still think I find better bargains than in stores for which I just don't have time to bargain-hunt. Agree?

I think it depends. I usually don't buy clothes online except on rare occasions when I feel like there's a really good deal, but yes, sometimes online deals, I agree, can be better than actually going out to the store to buy them. I usually just buy things from Amazon because I can get gift cards for free from there and I just save up and buy something nice from there, but other than that, I don't usually buy much from anywhere else.

Hi, ishme! I've found such incredible bargains that I can't imagine going into the malls anymore, nor do I have time! Have a look at my response to Savypat above, and you'll get some good, reliable hints!

It depends on how heavy or large the item is. I can buy a wreath for $25 here (or make one for about $5 because I own a forest), but shipping is about $15, so it's cheaper (if someone made one for me) to just buy one at a craft fare or even at a supermarket (but then my $ go away just like they do on-line most of the time). If you can get a bunch of stuff in a $4.99 box that's less than 20lbs, then yes, it works out well. Of course where I live, the price of gas, most stores are 25 miles away, but a few are 8 miles away. So there are many things to consider. My area has lots of clothes and used stuff very, very cheap. Some things on ebay that I like are cheaper in the stores I go to anyway and I don't have to pay shipping. A couple of things, mostly paper items have been cheaper.

Of course another way to look at it is this. If you buy locally, people are employed in your state and area. If you buy somewhere else, you have to pay the cost of unemployment/welfare more in your area. There are a lot of unseen costs to think about, too.

You're certainly right about buying locally. However, if it's the same stuff that's in department stores or big-box retailers, etc., it doesn't really apply. Notice the crowds at those stores! As for shipping costs, most on-line companies have free shipping available at least some of the time, so that's when I go there! Have a blessed holiday season, my friend!

ONline shopping offers this advantage. Online shops are open 24 hours a day and you can shop on from one site to another without moving one tile in your room. However despite the advantages there is always a small risk of being scammed. For example even though Ebay is a serious site you might still get scammed by unscrupulous people who are there to make a quick buck by tricking people

I've avoided sites such as e-bay and Craig's list, because I've heard of too many scams. I generally stick to the websites of stores I know and catalogue companies I used to shop by phone. Most have on-line outlets, and there's a lot of money to be saved!

Often true, but not always. Then again, I don't exactly comparison shop stores against websites. Just websites against websites. If I'm at a store and see something unless the price is outrageous, I just get it.

Hey Jo, I'm with you on this one. I love to online shop. Of course I'm not able to do any in the last 3 years. But I do like my book club where every book I get(all hardback) is only 9.95 and no shipping cost. You can get just about any book you want(all brand new). Also if you shop the right stores, often you can avoid shipping cost. Best of all, it's so much easier. Hugs Leenie

So glad to hear from you, Leenie! I've been praying a lot. Are you OK? I spent less than $50 for all the gifts for John's kids and the grandchildren this year using the outlets and clearance centers, and they won't have any idea I scrimped! Otherwise, I could never have afforded to get them anything they might want! XOXO, Joanne

How's John? Are you going to be able to spend much time with him at Christmas? I've been spending a lot of time going to different doctors. I don't have a lot of energy to do too much. You'll have to tell me what stores you shop online sometime. Have a Very Merry Christmas Jo. Hugs Leenie

Hi cobrateacher, I do most of my shopping online too, especially this time of year to avid the crowds. There are some great bargains online if you look for them even when you factor in the shipping charges, it still works out cheaper than the store. I tend to use Amazon and Ebay the most. Although I have eased off on Ebay the last while as I found it became very addicting and I maxed out my card once and paying it back was a complete nightmare. I guess you could say I learned my lesson lol

I get it! I try not to use any credit cards, which means buying nothing at all in most cases, until I can get the payments down. It's a bit too easy to spend more than we should, but it certainly is FUN!!! Have a wonderful new year!

Hey cobrateacher! I love to shop online! Lately more than ever! I have found that I love shopping at JC Penney online! I for the first time ever took a major chance and bought a pair of navy blue leather mid calf boots and they fit perfectly! And then I bought a second pair because I shopped in so many stores looking for navy blue boots that I decided to get another pair so if I wore the first pair out I would still have another because they were so comfortable and reasonably priced and I got free shipping! And then I bought 2 sweaters and they arrived today and were the perfect fit and beautiful! I have always bought jewelry, books and cd's online, but never anything that I would usually try on! So now I really love shopping online! And I do love getting bargains! I have also purchased my computer desk online too!

I'm hoping the after-holiday sales will allow me to get a couple of things I really want, but can't afford! I never really like going into the stores, so this is ideal for me, and you can't beat the sale prices!

I am starting to do this more and more, so far it's been a good experience. Lately it's been a little slow, but I think it's the time year.

Pat, Even at this tie of year, things aren't all that slow. I don't know how these sites do it. Most of the standard stores have outlets and clearance centers only available on line. I got a gorgeous sweater as one of the gifts for this season, which still had the #385 price tag on it, and it was $42.50! That's just one example. Most of the catalogs also have on line special departments, too. It's great!

I usually purchasing some special offers merchandises from the internet. I also usually purchasing some exclusive apparels from the internet. I think an online shopping site should selling unique and exclusive products so we can assure if we have buying a right product and not a common product which can easily be found on the market. I also receiving many newsletter about special offers from my favourite shopping sites and i think it's a good marketing strategy so although i'm busy with my job schedule but i can keep monitoring whether there's a product which can fulfill my needs by checking my email box. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hello cobrateacher and me too like to shop online with my friends for some cool gadgets and other stuffs.Mostly we get our items through ebay and alibaba.com sites, this are the good and best sites online.Well they have variety of products, updated to the latest versions.Even the prices of goods are much low/cheaper than we pay for in our real stores, online buying is an affordable one.Since am still not having credit card, am not able to shop online without mine friends who do have credit card. The only drawback seems to me is they must accept direct transfers/deposits as payment option.Else everything is fine and excellent in online shopping system.Enjoy shopping online, Happy mylotting.

Hi, Checkmail! I've never had a problem with paying by direct transfer. Maybe it's a regional thing, which will catch up soon. I hope so!

I think online shopping can reduce the time in the visual in fact .We have the same experience when we choose something we always picked over and over again but always it does not our direction.thus, untill you find what we want before the end of the on-line shopping .In appearence, you spend a little time on choosing something ,though please think over ,you find you spend not a little time ! The time not shorter than the time spend shopping. So I do not advice on-line shopping. I prefer to going shopping than on-line shopping .Go shopping is a fashion.

I like the idea that a bunch of other people haven't picked up the item I want again and again, and I love avoiding the crowds and saving precious time, as well as money! Shopping on-line doesn't work, of course, for just browsing!
