READING the Discussions BEFORE Answering them? (2 part question)

United States
December 23, 2009 10:47pm CST
Do you: A) Read the entire discussion and try to fully grasp what is being said or asked, before commenting. B) Read the title and the opening statement to get a gist of what is being said or asked, before commenting. C) Read the title and respond to the discussion without reading the body of the discussion. ____________________________________ Do you: A) Think about the discussion fully and write out the most informed, detailed response you can so your answer might get rated best response. B) Do the same as in selection "A" but to actually HELP the person with their question, instead of just seeking to get a best response. C) Answer quickly with a non-committal response so that you can answer as many discussions as possible to make a certain quota of how many discussions you answer in a day/ week.

I read the entire discussion. Sometimes I have to read each one 3 or 4 times before I can even understand the gist of the whole thing. I don't answer with the thought of getting a "best response." I try to answer honestly with my opinion or what I know as far as the question that is being asked.

Hi noner says: I actually have the same opinion you have even if i chose the B option on the second question but what i really wanted to say it's that, for me it's more important to make a good answer that could satisfy the other person expectations and in some cases that will help him/her to solve a hard question they're making to themselves. Thanks for your answer. Hope you are having a nice day. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays. Take Care. -Alvaro.

hi sherrypeck I always read the whole discussion, then think about the response for awhile before I write it down, and no' I never worry about whether or not i would get best response. I just want to make an intelligent, legible response that' will be understandable. I am not one to do one or two lines of' quick crap as I like to put a little thought into what I say.

I can vouch for that! I love it when you come to my discussions Hatley, because I know I'm going to be either entertained or educated - usually, it's both. 'One or two lines of quick crap' - that's good. Can I borrow it sometimes?

I never look at responding as a contest, I read a post and if I can respond I will write the best response I can. If the post asks a question, I answer it, If it seeks advice, I try to give it. if it is a rant that I agree with ,I'll write I agree as well as I can. The Last thing that crosses my mind is the best response. So when I get a notice that I received the best response , it is a complete surprise!

I understand them but at times I myself don't have the solution for which I am looking for. I agree with you. The best thing is to answer the question.

I read only the title and the opening statement if the discussion is asking for my opinion on a certain subject matter. However, if the discussion is factual, I tend to browse over the comments on the first page and if I find them interesting, then I proceed to read the next pages. If there is some info lacking in the comments of others, I try my best to fill them.

I usually read the entire discussion before I respond, but sometimes, if I already know what I want to say or I know where the discussion is leading to, I will usually just skim through it and then answer. When I'm responding, I give it my all and give the best and most detailed response that I can give. I'm not always aiming for the best response because I know I can't always get it, but I do give my best to every response that I make. I actually do want to help the person asking the discussion if they're asking for help. If it's just going to be a casual discussion, I just give my opinion on the subject or topic that they're asking about. I don't really have a quota of how many posts I want to make each week. I usually just MyLot whenever I get the chance to or if I just feel like talking to some other MyLotters.

I usually read the entire discussion before responding. If it is a discussion that presents a problem, I try to help and be supportive. I get my share of best responses but they are not my actual goal.

Yes. Ok just kidding. I always read the entire discussion. Nothing more annoying than a person who responds to the title, which actually has not very much to do with the point of the discussion. As for how thorough the answer, well it just depends on the question and what I have to say on the subject.

A}I read the entire discussion and try to fully grasp that.If I can't I don't response.B)I read the title and whole discussion.C)I read the body of the discussion. -------------------------------------------------- A)I don't think about rating. If my response selected as best then I think it's my extra gain.B} I don't want to be a teacher.I said before I don't bother to get a best response. I have no target of answering. My preference is my friends. First I try to response to the discussions of my friends. Hi sherry,I have answered all your questions. Shall I get the pass mark ?

Good discussion! I would say that in regards to part one my answer is A, although I have applied B from time to time because by reading the opening statement I can generally tell if the topic will be of interest to me. For part two I can honestly say that I don’t strive for a BR, honestly! My answer would have to be between B and C.

It all kinds of depend I guess on how good of a discussion I want to write or how much I care about the topic. If it's a topic that's pretty important to me and I can write a nice long discussion then I read it all the way through so that way I can think of more ideas while responding. Sometimes I just look at the title and start writing because I'm just trying to earn or something. Either way I like to mylot no matter how I choose to respond whenever I do.

I will read the discussion if I find it intersting and if i find it too long and un interesting, I would be least cared to read the discussion. But I would respond to a discussion only if I read them completely and understand them. If else I would never reply since replying to a discussion without reading them properly may lead to many complications. Thanks for starting the discussion and have a wonderful day. Merry christmas. Cheers:-)

Usually, my choice is 'B'. I just get an idea of what the person is saying/asking and then key in my response. But I must admit that in this case, I did look at the other responses as well. I guess it all depends on my mood, frame of mind, and my motives at that particular moment. But your question(s) made me think about the why's & how's of my personal myLotting style.

Hi sherrypeck: First question- i first read the title. It must be something I think I have the possibility to give an oppinion or a good advice in case it seems to me that the person will share with me a problem and then i read the entire discussion because i need all the information in order to write something that will be good for real. I don't only write without knowing what people is asking me to response. This is part of my responsability as a member. Second question: my answer would be B, what matters the most when you answer the question is that your answer satisfy the requirement of the person. In some cases I'll give support to a person even if i am not sure if this person would read my advices. In some other cases I stop for a while and pray for this person if I know there is a bad situation where he / she is in. Well, that's it. Thanks for asking these two questions about how we post here in mylot. Hope you are having a nice day. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays. Take Care. -Alvaro.

In order I do A, then I will do B. I always try to read the discussion title so that way I can better understand what the discussion is about. And I also don't expect to get an best response either. I just post relevant comments that will give the member an understanding that I responded to their discussion. I will try to post so that I can help out another person.

I will read a discussion all the way through if it isn't to long. I then will answer it if it only asks one question but if it asks several then I will only answer one. If after I read it I have no answer or have been asked the quesitons before I will usually delete.

Well, I did that from A - C on the first section. Sometimes, I admitted that I don't fully thought about it before I answer them. but I would do it better later.

there are some discussions i do read over and over again before answering them and that is because the grammar do make me do so and not because the discussions are complex, there are however some discussions which after reading the first 2 lines i do give my opinion

I usually comment from the mylot digest sent to my e-mail... Sometimes it is the title that catches my eye and I will open to read the whole discussion and Sometimes the title will be weird and not informative enough and catch my attention for me to read the discussion to understand the title.... Either way I mostly comment from the digest sent to my e-mail....

Well really interesting and unique discussion , before starting mylotting i go to my interests and open the best and interesting discussion and if i understand the discussion fully from the title then i never read the entire content but if the title is not clear to me then i read the whole discussion and mainly everything is clear in title only , like everything is understandable in the title of this discussion that what this discussion is all about. This is how i do .
