Down by the riverside

I think I saw Sunny down by the river. He was on the other side. Called home and had the girls come down and they crossed over and called him but he ran away. By the time they got to where he was, he was long gone. I really think it was him. Now how do we catch the spook bug?

IDK. But I do hope that you find him son as he's been gone a few weeks now I think. Good luck - I am sure that someone will help you.

Maybe we'll go down there with a bag of food next time and shake it for him to hear...

sunny is a nervous cat? i think you might have to wait for him to come home - it is very difficult to catch a cat that easily frightened. have you tried leaving out food for him or will that just be snatched by the neighbourhood foxes (or wolves, or coyotes, or bears or whatever equivalent you have over there)?

Very nervous cat... raccoons, skunks, coyotes, bobcats, feral cats and I don't know what all...

Have you lost your cat called Sunny? If so I hope that you will soon find him. I lost my rabbit, Sally, when I was a teenager. She dug a hole and it went out of our garden. I put up many notices and looked everywhere I could think of. Days went past then a lady phoned and said that she had found Sally in her garden. We went to collect her. Good luck my friend Dawnald.

I hope so too, but he is such a spook. I don't know how we're going to catch him if it was him. - dawn

Is he an unneutered male? if so you may have to wait until what ever female is in heat is finished. If he is just a spooky cat, unknown fear may keep him away. Cats can be very independent for no reason we humans can find. It's a toss up whether he will return or not. You could try leaving food out but you may get more cats then you want and other critters as well. Good Luck

He's a spook and he's neutered and since he's down by the river, I rather doubt he's going to come back up by the house now. It's been a month and a half.

I guess he just found a better cat place to live. It may be as simple as something that scared him at your house. You may never know or someday he may be back. That's cat behavior 101

I hope it was him which means he’s okay! We had a couple of cats that came with our old house when we moved in; their owner was an old lady who passed away, hence her house being sold to us…Anyway her dog was taken care of but her cats were left behind and they were not well. We had a hard time trying to catch them. My husband put a cage which we hired from the vet’s with some food inside; it was designed that as soon as the cat stepped in to eat the food the cage would shut and the cat would be trapped inside. It sounds a bit mean bit we had to catch these two felines because they were in a bad way and needed a vet. We did get one and a few days later got the other one. Sadly they had to be put down but we tried really hard to save them…Maybe you could try one of these cages? I don’t know…They are pretty hard to catch! I pray that you get him back!

I'm thinking about a cage, but I'm afraid I'll end up catching a skunk and then what?

I had not thought of some other creature going in there...I guess if you end up with something else you can always let it go again. Good luck!

Be slow and easy when you spot him (or the cat you think might be him). It could easily be a wilde cat and you could have the animals confused. Keep your distance, stay still call softly and have some of his favorite food handy. Don't run after them ever alllow them to come to you. It could take hours, day, or even longer so be easy.

food. trap him with his favorite food. although my cat is indoors, sometimes when i call him, he doesnt respond. so i walk around the house shaking his treats. and when he hears it, he gets excited and comes running down. so i have to give him some treats because he responded.

We had a tomcat when I was a young girl and he used to take off about once a months and there were times when he would be gone for a couple of weeks at a time and we always thought he must of been killed somewhere and then bam he would show up at the front door like nothing...cats are crazy little creatures that's why i stick with dogs. I think that fact that he is a nervous cat might be a good thing because that might mean that he will make it back home safely and not get too close to any cars or strangers that may harm him....Hope he comes home soon and safe...

Hi dawn Hope that you have a great christmas. I wish that had been Sunny and that he would have come back home. Maybe he has an affair going on over across the river and couldn't answer because the husband cat was home..

Is he tagged? I mean does he have a microchip? Otherwise I am not sure what you can do. Is this a cat or a dog you are talking about? If it is a cat you may have to accept that he has become a wanderer. Good luck to you.

Reminds me of an oldie song. "Running Bear, loved Little White Dove...." Especially the line about on the other side of the river etc. Try using some of his fave treats etc to lure him closer maybe? HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Does he have a favorite treat? I know when my little kitty gets spooked I shake her little can of treats and she comes running. Maybe that could help or is Sunny sleeps in a certain spot on something bring it so Sunny can smell home and come back.

hi dawnald I think you may have to wait a bit for Sunny to come trotting back home than again maybe you could lure him back with some of his favorite cat food. Not sure how you catch a spooked cat, they are so darned independent. good luck and God Bless. Merry day before Christmas.
