My kids have both been sick since Christmas Eve and I woke up the day after Christmas feeling horrible. I have it worse than the kids to. I have a dry scratchy throat that is raw and it is making me cough like crazy. I have gone into a coughing fit so bad a few times today it made me vomit and at one point I even(don't laugh) peed in my pants. I have tired Vicks on my chest and on my feet, sucking on cough drops, drinking hot apple cider(that just made my heartburn worse)......any suggestions? I am miserable here.

Smother feet with Vick's and wear socks when you go to bed. 'somehow this stops the coughing. I am so sorry that you are all ill. If the kids were adults then I would recommend sipping lime/lemon juice with honey and some rum. Actually what YOU could do is put rum in every drink that you drink and I can honestly assure you that you will be feeling better. Take care my friend and get well soon. Ah, I re read and saw that you had put Vick's on feet. Get some cough suppressant and use at night then. I dunno

hi lilybug, oh do I feel for you, cough sniffle, sneeze cough some more, oh my throat, cold water with ice if you have it, and ludens cough drops, and drink lots of hot chicken soup too. rest keep warm, and sooner or later we both will feel better, I hope. my throat is better now but still cough, the other day it tickled so badly my eyes were watering and my friend Jess thought I was crying but I really was not. If your throat doesnt get better you should see your doctor as Ihad one a year ago and thought it was just an ordinary cold with sore throat,a virus thing but my throat hurt so bad I cou ld not bear to eat so went to my doctor, he took a swab, you have a strept throat, then he gave me a prescription for antibiotics and one for the road while I waited for it to get filled. ice water was the only thing that made it quit hurting. but the warm chicken soup will help also, never fails really. Happy New Year hope we are both much better really soon. lol lol.

I have been drinking cold liquids all day because I do not really like hot drinks. I tried the apple cider and that made my reflux act up. I was just drinking some hot tea and it is making me want to vomit. I guess I am going back to cold liquids. I have not been feeling like eating at all today either. I took my temp and my kids temps a few minutes ago and they are back to normal, but mine has shot to 102. Mine is normally 96, so that is quite a fever for me. I hope you are feeling better soon. Happy New Year to you too!

How old are your children? Where I am strep throat has been going around pretty bad. If your children have it or had it, they could have passed it on to you. Is there any fever with the other symptoms? I don't know if your sore throat is coming from drainage or coughing or both. It could be a number of things. If you aren't feeling better soon, I would definately get it checked out. Hope you feel better!

My kids are 3 and 10. (Well, they will be in a few weeks.) We have all had fevers. I had a stuffy nose and drainage the other day, but now my nose is runny. The cough is a dry painful cough without phlegm.

First is do you have flu shot? Because your symptoms tells me a flu virus is going on inside your body and somehow your immune system is fighting such virus. If you do have flu shots before then fret not because your antibodies may be recognizing the virus now and then binding, sort of like hugging each other tight so that the full blown viral symptoms will not push thru. If you don't have the flu shots then you'll have to do this things in order for you to get better fast. 1) Drink vitamins...What i meant is Vitamin C...drink lots of it, could be in capsules or tablet form...or even in food form like oranges, lemons etc. Make sure you drink 2-3 capsules per day...the maximum you could get is 2,000mg dose of this Vitamin C. 2) Drink lots of water...yes fluids or fruit juices..this helps! 3) Don't forget to drink your medications if there's any - like phenylpropanolamin, tylenol, antibiotics...make sure you don't forget to take them as prescribed by your physician 4) And Bedrest...could be 2-3 days max. Definitely no strenuous nor stressful activities...do not go out of the house, charge yourself with a good quality rest. This calms your body and would minimize the stress the virus is doing in your body. Hope this helps you because it definitely helped mine when I got the same symptoms 3 days ago. Get well soon.

My kids have had flu shots, but I have not. I have been taking vitamins, but I really need to get just Vitamin C pills. Ibuprofen seems to be helping with the fever.

I have my own home remedy for cough and sore throat. these are actually my rituals when i feel like a cough is coming. this includes: gargling warm water with salt, increasing water intake-- to loosen up secretions, steam inhalation-- to ease up breathing, good oral hygiene-- to lessen bacterias in oral cavity (toothbrush every after meal, during waking hours and before going to bed), also buy strepsills (antitussives,or other kind) ````basically this rituals of mine work! and owwww to add up..i dont know exactly how this works but often times, i wrap my neck and my head with towel or clothing to prevent drafts! ---and whalaaaa!!!! bye bye sore throat and cough!!!^_^ --but the best suggestion is: always see your doctor or seek medical advise! because they know best!!!``nice to be of help..--I'm thessa your newly grad nurse, always at your service..^_^

WAIT!!! i forgot! vitamin C!! don't forget!!! you don't need to overdose your self with vitamin C! research shows that your body can only absorb 75mgs of it! the remaining dose of it will be drained out through sweat or urine.. ^_^

Here's a few ideas for you..... run a warm vaporizor if you live in a colder climate that has winter, gargling with warm water with a table spoon or so of salt in it, honey, and wearing a scarf around your neck to keep it warm (yes this is weird, but it works for me..... plus I used to live in an apt where the upstairs neighbor left his windows open all year long and my room was soo cold I was getting sick, but when I slept with a scarf around my neck and had less occurances of such sore thoats). I hope you are feeling better soon. & no I've coughed so hard I've wondered if I was going to pee my pants too! Sadly I think that comes with having kids, they mess up your bladder. Afterall they only seem to mention women w/ bladder problems moreso then men cause our bladders get abused alot w/ every pregnancy.

For sore throat which had been derived from bacterial infections. You can have a anti-bacterial solutions that you can gargle in your mouth to prevent so much irritation when dry or swallowing. For cough that is dry, if it occurs for more than 5 days to a week or so. I suggest that you can take antibiotic already. If some of your own medications will not work. For your kids, the best way is to seek a pediatrician for that. They are very sensitive and must be given extra care for treatment. The laboratory tests results will be sufficient enough to know what bacterial agents they have and the appropriate treatment for medications. They will also know the medicines that will cause allergic reaction to them and you possibly as well.

I hate to hear that lilybug. Try gargling some salt water. That will help. Do it just every few hours. No certain amount..just a bunch of salt in warm water. Tell me how it works for you if you do it.

If I always suffer from a severe cold or sore throat, then I would take a hot soup with lot of peppers added to it. That would definitely relieve me from sore throat and I could get the remedy from sore throat within 2 hours. I would always recommend others to follow that. Regarding cough, I always follow the traditional Indian Ayurvedic method which help me to get an immediate relief from the cough and other complications. Have a great day and happy mylotting. Cheers:-)

Sore throat and cough are very common health problems for me since I have recurrent laryngitis with tonsilitis sometimes. What I usually do is to drink more water to relive itchiness and sore. I also buy lozenges or menthol candy. Aside from that, i also try to have adequate rest and sleep with proper diet. I avoid eating sweets and cold foods which may trigger this problem. But if these problems still persist, I go to the doctor to have some prescription of appropriate medications.
