Hello friends, schooldays have gone a long time back and pleasant memories remain of the time spent during the summer and other vacations. During the summer hols i accompanied my mother to my uncle`s house in Chennai(Madras) and later on in Bangalore a few times. My cousins were also young and we used to have a whale of a time. My uncle was the regional Manager of a prominent car company and so he could take us on long drives to several tourist and pilgrim spots in the vicinity. Then i went with my mom to her sisters house in Kanpur in the Northern state of Uttar Pradesh and also enjoyed myself with my cousin who was the same age as myself. However most of the vacations were spent at home. During those times my friends used to be out of the house virtually all day playing cricket , catch me if you can, hide and seek, catchball, football and other games. Or we would go for long walks to the beach which was about five to six kilometers from our house in the evening.A commerce college close to our house used to throw open its library to the public every summer vacation and along with a couple of friends i would go there after lunch and sit reading some wonderful books. Then there were movies to be seen and after the hols when school started my classmates would compare notes with each other as to who had seen the best films and who had seen the most. The vacations were days of innocent fun and were eagerly looked forward to by me and all the friends. How did you, my dear mylotters spend your summer and Xmas hols? Please share.

I'm afraid that my school vacations were not so glamorous. My father was a farmer. My summer vacations were spent chopping cotton and hoeing the vegetable garden. I also had the privilege of snapping green beans for canning. Before the vegetables could be canned, the jars had to be washed and for tomatoes, sterilized. Sweet corn had to be shucked, desilked, and the corn kernels cut from the cob. Potatoes and onions were dug and stored in the cellar. Berries and grapes were picked and canned. All this was in addition to regular chores of tending to chickens and hogs, milking the cows and taking care of the milk. Teaching calves to drink milk from a buck was a challenge that could sometimes be fun. Occasionally there would be time for a long hoseback ride. I'd ride around the country with no particular destination in mind and only head for home when the sun told me that it would soon be chore time again.

When I was little I spent most of my summer vacations at my grandmothers. I played all over the country there. It was great! We sometimes went to the mountain with my uncle or going to visit relatives. My mom and aunt had a favorite swimming hole that we used to frequent. I helped my grandmother in her garden and around her place. As I grew up I spent my summers with girlfriends more because my mom worked.

During my small ages I used to spend my days in my native my friend. Its a small village at the bottom most part of our country. My dad's family is a very big one. With a lots of kids. Among them I was the eldest. Eldest means not 10 years or so my friend, just maximum an year older. But all call me as their brother again and again and make me look as a big boy. I used to ask them to do this and that. I used to seperate the teams in each game and so on my friend and not even one'll oppose my decesion. Not a hitler sort of rule my friend, its just that if I say something they'll patiently hear. To impress them I used to read stories and puzzles in advance and say to them. I would be really fun my friend. But now when I used to think those wow, I was good. Then as I joined my 12th, I started to like to be with my friends. Irom then onwards I spend my holidays with my friends. Even tomorrow I gonna meet one of my very best friends.

Hi,this topic actually reminds me of my gool old days at home. For me, summer holidays were quite short compared to the long winter holidays but i did enjoyed both to the fullest.Best part of these vacations means reunion of me and my siblings at home with a lot of seasonal fruits to eat.We had all these enjoyment after having go through the pain of injections at our school which were given routinely before summer vacations. This drive was to make sure we shouldn't fall sick from the seasonal fruits which all of us like so much.I remember vividly how we used to enjoy plucking fruits from trees and eating them.Winter enjoyment was far more interesting in the sense that me and my friends used to go to open rice field taking with us eatables, play whole day and bring back a special type of creeper which grows adundantly in open field.I really wish the new generation children be allowed to experience that kind of enjoyment and fun which we had. After that, we were so eager to go to school and share how we had spent the holidays. Those moments of joy will be cherished forever...i am happy that i enjoyed those days whole heartedly.

Oh! You seem to have enjoyed perfect holidays, just the storybook types! I was not so lucky. As it is I am an only child of working parents and most of the time after school I used to stay alone till my parents came back from office. Vacations were like a curse really coz I had nobody to play with or talk with. Also there was no computer in those days and TV was also not there…so you can well imagine how boring my vacations were.

They sound like nice memories! I don’t have any specific recollections of my school holidays except of when we lived in Italy before I turned eleven and my mum, dad and I would go on vacation over the border to Switzerland to ski, it used to be great fun; my dad would put chains on the wheels of his car so he could drive on the icy snow covered roads. In the summer time we did a lot of picnics. It all stopped when we arrived in Australia and could no longer travel anywhere like we used to. My holidays were spent at home by myself occasionally playing with other kids in the street. Great discussion by the way!

Hello veejay, Back in my younger days, everytime the school end and it's time for vacation,i always spend my time to the fullest i can. During my childhood,my grandparents always took me have a visit to their hometown and met our relatives. But,when i grew and in my teen years,i don't go to places that i have been. I enjoyed having my own time spent with friends, like swimming, and some outdoor life...playing sports is one of my best leisure time. Then, when i am on my adulthood,i stopped some outdoor life...i stayed home during vacation and enjoy the serenity of my room listening to musics and reading books. Sometimes i visit places that i had never been before,or,tried some new adventures too. You had a great time with your vacation...
