yes it does but thats not necesarily na bad thing.the caste system cannot be abolished becuase it is a part of the religion and it is based on a religious system.the caste system is not the same as racial discrimination which one can get rid off.for one to abolish the caste system one must abolish the religion and thats just not possible. also it is not necesarily a bad thing.ok we have had this misuse of the caste system and all that by which certain people belonging to certain castes were deprived of certain rights. this was prior to the rise of modern india.today we are a plurastic society and we have a constitution which actually enshrines this secular principles and gaurentees the equal rights of all indians irrespective to which caste they belong! one cannot abolish the caste system but waht one can do is to abolish the misuse of this system as in the past.and this has been done already. so to answer your query does the caste system exist, yes it does! but the misuse of this system has been abolished. of course there will be some discrepancies from time to time .with every religion there is some form of sub sect or caste and every religion tries to deprive the rights of the non believeres. case in exaple remember the spanish inquisition where in countless of thousands of innovent peole were killed ruthlesly becuase they did not believe in christianity1 was christianity abolished,no it was not! similarly the hindu society cannot be held responsible for the caste system.this system forms an integral part of the hindu religion and only the misuse of this system should be abolished and that has already been acheived!

Yes, it still exists. It does not hold good in daily life. No body bothers about the caste while meeting a person. It is considered mostly at the time of marriages. Majority of the marriages are held with consideartion of the caste system. Inter caste marriages are not liked by the society at present. But in future with more and more inter caste marriages, it will also loose ground and caste system will become a historcal consideration for the marriages too. Our politicians still use caste system to enrich their vote bank. This is not a healthy sign for the development of the nation. Because due to this it is benefitting only the politicians and not to the nation. Let us see when the caste based reservation is abolished in India.

And so, dear boneheart69, you hope there is no caste system in India. Well, I agree with you, me too I think that caste system is against freedom and happiness, but.... if we take a look on what you think and what you say about gays and lesbians, we could think that you are not against the "caste system" at all.... aren't I wrong? If I didn't understand well your opinions about homosexuality I apologize for my misunderstanding.

Map - India
In ancient India there developed a social system in which people were divided into separate close communities. These communities are known in English as caste. The origin of the caste system is in Hinduism, but it affected the whole Indian society. The caste system in the religious form is basically a simple division of society in which there are four castes arranged in a hierarchy and below them the outcast. But socially the caste system was more complicated, with much more castes and sub-castes and other divisions. Legally the government disallows the practice of caste system but has a policy of affirmative discrimination of the backward classes.
