should webcams be part of online chatting?

I love to chat as well. I hate talking on the phone and I would hate to have myself shown on a web cam but I love to watch others on webcams. Its fun getting to see what they are looking like while they are chatting with me. I have a webcam that my mother bought me quite a few years ago that I have taken out of the package but have never hooked up on my computer. It just sits in a pile of other stuff that I never use. Maybe someday I will use it lol but I kind of doubt it. After all these years I probably will not start using it anytime soon. I hate the way I look I would feel really awful having people see me on a daily basis on a webcam. As it is now they only see the pictures I show them which I do not update very often.

If I dont really know that person much I will not turn on the cam. For my family and friends, yes I do turn it on. Yeah, sometimes I felt that feeling that I am blind by not seeing the one I talk but its also like when your talking using a cellphone you dont see who are u talking too.

I havent tested my web cam as yet but I have chatted on line iwth a friend who had web cam and it was really nice. I think I prefer using the web cam because you see the person's expression and little smiles and so on when they receive your message and I want that to be apart of my onlne chat. I hope it is workign though.

i havent gotten a webcam yet because i dont feel like i need it at the present time. but sometimes they are interesting specially if you want to talk to old friends who live far away and you havent seen in a long time.

I think web cams are a nice addition even though sometimes it freezes like you said.The reason I like web cams is that it allows me to see all the expressions on the persons face when I am talking to them and know if they are sincere in their response.The ironic thing though is that I dont have a web cam lol

Webcam is also true is a part of the chat, I'll be a fun chat but Internet Access in Indonesia is not too fast, so difficult to use a webcam if I use a webcam then becomes slow Internet Access

The webcam is certainly not necessary for online chatting. It's sometimes useful but I find that, mostly, one can do without it. The camera is sending very much more data across the net than just typed text or even photos so if you have a slow connection, you will certainly notice things going very slow at times. Also, if the person you are chatting to is on a slow connection, you will notice hold ups as well.

I think i dont prefer webcams at all, i agree, that it would be difficult to judge the other person with a webcam but it has its negetive shades too. I 100% prefer to chat without a webcam. my friends say that you are so beautiful, then why dont you want to use it. I say I am always uncomfortable with it.

hi ann, neither i am chatting nor i have a webcams,but till now i have not installed a webcom to my computer,some times it will be useful and some times it will give bad results,once we fall in chatting that is a bad habbit to chat without doing any other work,have a nice day

I use my web cam all the time most days to chat to people on, I also prefer others to have a cam in this day and age some people may not be what they seem so I think having a a cam to cam chat is a lot safer than not having a cam chat so to speak. I very rarely have my cam dis-connected for internet speed issues

I think it depends on your chatting method. If you can satisfied with the text chatting only, then webcam is not necessary for you. But if you want to have more attractive chatting, then i believe a webcam can be a good option for this purposes. As we know that now is the world of broadband internet which everything is about multimedia. Conventional chatting is still remains but however video chat is something we shouldn't leave it alone. Video chatting also useful for businessmen because they can make a live conference call with other people in another side of this world with a very cheap price. I think webcams are great but i wouldn't chooses to use it if i was talking to a complete stranger. Because i own a mac it is also difficult to connect with people with webcam because of the whole compatibility and stuff. However i often video chat to close friends using ichat which is great. But i don't mind just chatting through text and to be honest i prefer it. Much less awkward in my opinion :)

hello tiger aunt... i dont think webcam is necessary for chating online... friendship needs trust... but of them r those who cheat us... but it depends upon our mind n attitude... coz i do hav frends online...a very best frends... u feel if anyone is chating odd then aviod them thtz it...

a good queation. many people are confused with the webcam on line. my brother know his wife through the webcam. they chat on the internet first without camera, then they feel like each other,so they turn the camera on and have the first meet. now they get married and have a baby. so i think the webcam is helpful for chatting. ofcourse you need to be careful to those bad. by the way, tigerant, i like your name!

Hi Ann you are right in chat webcam is a must, without this how can you know who is with you, it might be some body else using the messenger, more over chat becomes pleasnt when we see each other, it is like face to face talking, i never visit the chat rooms nor chat with unknown Bhuwan
