When I finished my college degree I was very excited to get a job immediately to earn my own money. During my first year of job hunting I've been from one company to another. I worked in 6 simultaneous companies in my first year. But for some reason I wasn't satisfied with the earnings and for some I was not happy with my bosses and working environment, so I quit the jobs. Although I have a good job now and nice bosses but I feel like there's still missing in my career. I wasn't sure then what I am looking for, is it a job earning good money only or a job with good working environment but not paying you much? Which do you think is more important to consider?

I completely know what you are talking about here! I started working while going to college. I had everyone aroung me (okay mostly my family) telling me what type of job I should get. Silly me I actually listened to everyone except myself. I kept thinking the reason that I was disappointed was that I wanted a better job rather than an entry level job, better pay, benefits, you name it. It was not until I was doing temp work for one of the biggest companies (Fortune 100), I was working tons of hours, and felt bored. I could do the work it was not that it was that the work did not inspire me. It took my boss calling me a liar, and I quit. It took me awhile to step back enough to have time to decide what I really wanted to do as a career. I did apartment leasing a much less demanding job and took some time to reflect and figure things out. What I realized was that there was a job I had always wanted to teach. I got a job working as an instructional assistant in special education at a local public school. I've been in that job for almost 4 years. Yes, there has been times that my supervisor has treated me poorly. Yes, there have been those days where I just looked at my paycheck and said I don't make enough money. Those times have only spurred me on to finish my education and get my certicification to teach. I love teaching! You know what you are going to have those rough days it is part of working. When you find a job you love, all those good days make up for those really challenging days. Trust me, you think a boss is hard to deal with try parents of students especially when you have to tell the parent that their little darling has some pretty severe behavior issues. Oh, trust me a defensive co-worker or boss is nothing compared to a defensive parent. Look for a job that inspires you, challenges you, and makes you happy. I think that is the secret to find a job that you enjoy. Also, I think everyone has to figure out for themselves what it means to be successfull in life. I say that because one of the big hang-ups we all get is feeling like we need to do more, reach a certain status, get a specific job, in order to feel successful.

I certainly agree with you. Thanks! I really appreciate it because I've been on the same situation before that I felt like my superior was very authoritative and treated me and my other co-employees so poorly. But I was able to stay longer on that company for about 4 years?? I had a good relationship with my boss and retained that up to my last days of working with them. I've decided to leave the company because I am not happy anymore, I am not enjoying my days at work anymore, I feel abused that my duties and responsibilities are becoming so broad but not getting better compensation. Until I've decided to look for another job and found a much better job which I like and I think will make me more productive and a better person. But as time goes by in my work, doing the same routine every day somehow makes me feel unsatisfied. I am ofcourse grateful that I have this job. But maybe you are right because I always felt I want to do more and more and more, wanting to reach something.

As far as experience is concern, i think being happy with what you do is the most important thing to consider in choosing a career job. As for me i didn't really like my course in college but i took it because its easy to find work. And i had to work after graduation because my siblings are still going to school and i need to help my family. After 4 years in my work I'm not happy anymore. The pay is not bad but I'm not really happy with it. As of now I'm planning to find another job, stable, maybe not paying that good but one that I will be happy.

Well I found out I was never satisfied working until I finally started doing something I like. When you are working in a field doing work you love, the money just seems to follow.

I have worked many jobs in my life, but the one thing I found is that if the ethics of the company or co-workers did not correspond with mine, the job became difficult to appreciate. I'm more of a humanitarian and people person than a bottom dollar line person. One job I truly enjoyed was manager/cashier of a gas station/convenience store in my younger days. But the owner stopped seeing people as people, employees and customers alike became dollar signs. The ethics of the owner, greed namely, poisoned the work environment and the business. It made a job that I so enjoyed, difficult to enjoy and I eventually had to quit after he bought his Mercedes and reduced my pay by $100 a week, because he was overdrawn in his accounts.
