Do you post in discussions that were started long time ago?

Sometimes when I search for something an old discussion comes up so sometimes I even write a response to it but I've noticed that that discussion never remains among the first ones on any list even if it was started by my friends. So I guess people don't like to respond to old discussions. What do you think about that? What do you do? Do you write a response to an old discussion? How old a discussion has to be to be considered old? What's the limit? Is there one? I remember quite some time ago I wrote a response to an old discussion of a friend of mine and he thanked me for that.

If to me a discussion is interesting then I will respond regardless of the date. Many older discussions are very worthy of our attention and sadly they went out of the limelight muh too soon. There is no limit here and discussions are never too old to receive responses and they never 'expire'. I often go to profiles and fish out something old. Usually that makes someone happy and they receive more responses too. Any discussion with recent activity apears in the 'smilar discussions' column on the right of any discussion open which has the same tags.

I have noticed sometimes that older discussions pop up in the similar discussion category and I find it to be helpful. I like to respond to the older ones. If I could I'd respond to every discussion, but as it is not all interest me!

Indeed they do. All the discussions with recent activity go there and there are often some gems that I missed first time round.

You are right, there are also interesting discussions on the older pages and it stays there and never expires, as you had mentioned. You have a nice way of 'fishing' old discussions by means of viewing the profiles of other users. I just prefer to look on old pages or just digging up for good topics. Yes, the similar discussions column is useful when looking for other topics with same tags, it helps to view topics that might catch attention. Aside from that, the search box is also useful when looking for discussions and when starting a new one in order to avoid posting duplicate topics.

Yes I have responded and commented to discussions that were started even four years ago! I know that it's highly unlikely the person who started will respond back as they are either not a member here anymore, or just not interested, but I do respond in hopes that someone will come by and say something, it's also nice just to respond, and I hope that it helps to refurbish old discussions and help eliminate repeated discussions.

I feel we are slightly safer posting on the older ones too. If they have lots of responses and are still up, it must mean something

I agree, it is very unlikely to get a response to old discussions. I was actually thinking about to do the same thing, not just to revive my old discussions but because I didn't use to respond to people who replied on my discussions. One needs experience here to understand how the things work. Now I try to respond to everyone.

True, those with many responses and that have been up for quite awhile must surely be safe to respond to! I've been meaning to go back and look at my older discussions and "revive them"... I really need to do that. Also look for responses I may have overlooked etc, and to share new ideals with the responders.

I will write a response to an old discussion, but usually I find them because other friends have recently responded to it and pushed it up so I saw it. I appreciate when people respond to any discussion of mine, no matter how old :) Usually the topic is still relevant and a lot of times my discussions don't have a lot of responses so I'm happy to get any - even if it is 3 months or a year later :) I just wish that the discussions were easier to sort/view by last response. Sometimes my friends respond to discussions but the discussions don't move to the top of the list (or at least they don't seem to) so it's hard to see active discussions.

Yeah it is pretty rough to see active discussions, even ones that are an hour old can be on page 3 by now! I suggested to Admin for a Day that the #1 problem I have with this site is that it is difficult to find MY response on a subject. I hope they do something about that. I'd like to be able to jump to my response (in this thread for example) and easily see that you replied to me and then reply back. It gets rough searching through page after page of a thread when I can't remember where my reply was. That's a bit off topic but I just thought of it :)

@vivasuzi I agree with you it would be great if that was possible, sometimes I really want to see the answer to my post but there are many people who posted so I spend quite some time searching for my one.

I've posted in discussions a year or years ago. I don't really care about that, as long as I find the topic interesting, then I would still respond to it. Some discussions that have been started long ago still get fresh responses from myLotters.

That's true because they are interesting and also it isn't possible to see every discussion started here in MyLot while it is still fresh so I do it too, when I see a discussion that was started a long time ago but I didn't respond to it I respond anyway. It is also interesting to see the difference between the answer I gave a year or 2 years ago when I just started writing here and the one I would write now. That happened to me too.

Sure, I do. Why not? They are still perfectly good discussions. If an older discussion caught my attention I may just respond to it, so long as I haven't responded to it before. So whether it's an old discussion or a new one, it doesn't matter to me. They're all good, no matter how old they are! LOL And when it comes to time limits on discussions, most don't have any to begin with. So unless it is stated on the discussion itself, it shouldn't hold anyone back from responding to it, if they wish to do so. Happy mylotting!

Hi. Yes, I usually will post to many discussions that has an older date. These discussions are very easy to post to and I enjoy giving my feedback to many of these discussions. It can be three years old and I still will respond back. If that member is active then they will see my discussion. If not then they will see it whenever they decide to come back to myLot. I enjoy posting regardless of how long or old an discussion is on myLot.

That's a great point of view and I share it completely. We are here because we like to write so I really think that the date on the discussion shouldn't stop us from responding to it.

hi lorelai, yes, i do respond to old discussions if i found them to be interesting or if i got something to say about it. in fact, i like to respond to old discussions because i don't have to afraid that my post will get deleted when the whole discussion get deleted. sometimes, new discussions tend to get deleted due to violation of the discussion posting rules in mylot. all of us know the reason for certain discussions which got deleted, but some discussions were deleted without a clear reason. as a conclusion, just like this discussion of yours which was already here 3 years ago as of today, and i have just responded to it.

I have never thought about it but you are right, some of my posts in new discussions got deleted when the discoussion got deleted but that can't happen with an old discussion. Interesting!

hi lorelai, now your discussion has been "promoted" from 3 years ago to 4 years ago. actually, i think it will still happen that the old discussions got deleted. but it depends if there were people who just found out the old discussion which was in violation and reported it. but the probability would be much lower if compared to the exposure of new discussions. maybe because the old discussion will only move up again in recent tab when someone responded it, but no longer in new, today's top, hot, and other tabs. so, the chances of people reading and reporting it would be much lower.

Hello there! Well, I dig up to old discussions when no new topics are around. Same with the others, I also select which to respond. An interesting discussion can get responses even it is old because users are attracted on the subject, the members who participated and the way the subject is being discussed. A discussion is interesting when you see the discussion starter reply with the responses and there is interaction among the users, an important factor to make a good discussion and to make users go to further topics of a particular user. I think, a discussion is considered as old when it was at least a month ago. Have a nice day!

That's so kind of you to respond to the discussions that got no answer. I sometimes do that too but sometimes it is not possible because I am not interested in the subject.

Right, I do that too, I respond to new ones first and then I go to the old discussions. I agree that interaction among the members make a discussion even more interesting. The fact is that it is interesting to see different opinions people have and what they think about what someone also responded. I find people who don't only respond but also comments on other person's response are really very appreciated in this community.

Yes, exchanging of views and opinions is a fun way of earning here. We can learn a lot from reading and they can also learn when we share information to others. I respond on old discussions that are interesting and I also try to post on those that don't have any response to give answers to their questions.

Yes, you're right. I guess sometimes when a posted discussion doesn't get the much desired responses from mylotters, i keeps declining on the mylot search. This sometimes makes the originator feel bad because everybody here want his or her posts to be rated high and you can always get that, if people make a lot of comments and responses to it and that's why i'll advise people not to be in a hurry posting discussion if it can't hold water! Lol.

I always like to respond on old discussions than new because I feel old is Gold. No year limit like age limit. Some time I response on 6 years old discussion if discussion is interested.

I do, especially if I'm interested in the topic. I figure I still get paid, so what does it matter when it was started? Although, I admit I do tend to start with the most recent postings on a topic.

I really do not mind if the discussions were old. For as long as I find the discussion interesting, then I just respond. Some other discussions even when they are old are still monitored by those who post. Sometimes I am also surprised the moment they respond.

If the discussion is interesting enough and I have though of a good response to it, I will contribute toward it regardless of how old or how empty it may be. There is no point in re-hashing the same old topic of discussion if it has already been made, in my honest opinion
