Would You Date A Third Cousin?

I told my friend that having a relationship with his third cousin is considered incest. He doesn't believe me and says that being third cousins is too far apart to be considered family. I told him to be ready in case they have mutant babies. Would you date someone knowing that she/he is your third cousin?

My understanding is that anything past first cousins is allright genetically speaking. However, you have to take certain things into perspective if your're going to date family...like if you split up, how will it affect members of your family? It's not like you can kick them out of the family when you break up. Also it's bound to be extra confusing for anyone outside of the family and the children of the couple. As for me, I don't date family no matter how distant they are. I dated my stepdads brother and that was a nightmare. I also married my other stepfathers nephew eons ago and that was a nightmare as well. I'm happy my Hubby is not related in any way other than our marriage. Genetically speaking, third cousins are too far apart for there to be a concern about the development of any children they may have. If I met a distant cousin who I was not raised with, what difference would there be between him and a stranger? None, so I would not automatically eliminate that person as a potential partner based solely on the fact that we had a tiny bit of genetic material in common. Would I look at a non-relative who grew up with me as a member of my family as a potential partner? Probably not because the emotional family ties would be in place between us and it would feel inappropriate.
