Probably not a Christmas miracle after all..

So on the 24th I saw a cat that looked like Sunny on the other side of the creek, but the darn cat ran away when my girls approached him. Since then we go walking down there every day with a can of cat food, just in case. No more sightings. Well today Richard is taking the kids to his mom's for a few days as they don't have to go back to school until Wednesday and we have to work tomorrow. So I walked down there myself, not expecting to see anything, and there he/she was. So I called "Sunny" and the cat looked at me. It was a little closer this time and didn't totally look like him, but I popped the lid off the can and the cat came running. As she got closer I saw that she had a collar with a tag and no dark mark on the mouth like Sunny had. Darn, wrong cat. Case of mistaken identity. But what are you going to do with an open can of cat food? So I gave it to her. She was a very sweet, well taken care of cat. Not my Sunny though, darn.

I was really hoping that was Sunny and some food or something would bring him round. Did you try looking online? I know my local animal shelter has a lost and found section. Hugs

Hope so.... The other day we used our can to feed a cat that was obviously very hungry. Next time I see him I may ask the people whose house he hangs out around if he's theirs, because he gets scruffier and scruffier looking every time I see him.

He could be lost as well. Maybe you can find out and if it's not the neighbors then maybe you could give him a new home. This might even pull in Sunny if he thinks that another one has invaded his home..LOL

Hi Dawn. A shame it wasn't Sunny, but at least you KNOW it wasn't. It would have been harder if you hadn't known.

At least I'm pretty sure. What's the likelihood that there were two cats down there with the same coloring. Nahhh....

But now your mind is at ease which explains the behavior of the cat running away from the strange children. I suspect that the cat has had some experience with other children that was less than comforting. The cat trusted you and that says a lot about you and now your down one less can of cat food, I wonder what the owner will think now that the feeding schedule is off and the cat probably won't eat like normal but will get right back on track in a short while. Your amazing Dawn... :) or Dawn's are amazing :)

I am sorry, I have been there and done exactly what you did, so I can feel your disappointment when finding a different cat. I hate it when cats just disappear, you never know what happened to them.

I'm sorry the cat wasn't Sunny. I always worried so much when my pets went missing, wondering what they were going through or if they were still alive. Most returned, but not all. I do hope your Sunny shows up soon, healthy as can be. Karen

I am so sorry that it was not your cat. I had a special cat I lost once, and I looked everywhere for him. It is my firm belief he hitch hiked to Texas. He was the type that followed kids to school, got in open cars, climbed into a moving van, joined people for a cup of coffee at a convenience store. He chased me when I was taking my three year old on a bike ride, until I let him ride in the front basket. Boy, I missed that cat for years. I hope you get your Sunny back.

Don't give up yet...I have had cats (especially male cats) that when they got loose have stayed out for over a week and then came back home like nothing was up....he probably found him a girl cat and isnt ready to come home yet.

Aww..although I'm glad it was taken care of, I hate to hear it wasn't your cat. All you can do is give him the catfood..he already smelled it and you might be risking your leg if you denied him. Good luck with your search.

Try to have a little faith. I'm sure your cat will come back. Perhaps reporting her, or him, missing on awolpet.com will help get your cat home faster. And, even though we live in an apartment complex and don't let our cats out, each has a collar and tags. Its just good to have those things for your animal, you never know what will happen.
