This darn Ear Infection

So I haven't really had an ear infection since I was a kid. And even then I never had any bad ones. I woke up on New Years Eve about 5am my ear hurting. Took some ibuprophen and layed on heating pad. By 7am it was hurting really bad and I couldn't sleep anymore. By 11 am I was on the floor crying, and couldn't do anything else. So I have no insurance, which sux. My friend came and got me dressed had her daughter watch my kids and took me to the hospital. Turns out it was an ear infection. They put me on antibiotics and pain meds. Okay so it has been hmmm 4 days now. I have been taking the antibiotics but it still hurts. It feels uncomfortable. What sux the worse is I can hear my pulse in my ear. Like I can tell when something excites me that's for sure. When will this stop? I do have enough experience to know this. The paper I got said it should feel better in 2-3 days, um it doesn't really. What can I do at home to help this? I hate things in my ear, like cotton it just makes it feel weirder. Will it be like this forever? :(

If it doesn't feel better by tomorrow, the anti-biotic isn't working. That's why it tells you when it should feel better by, still, some people things take longer to work. I had an anti-biotic that didn't work in the time specified and the next thing I knew, my throat (throat infection) started to close up. If it doesn't get better, it may get worse. The infection may be immune to that anti-biotic. Also watch out for yeast infections down under, anti-biotics for the ears are horrible for creating that, sometimes during or even after the ear infection. But the next anti-biotic I was given worked and they also gave me diflucan for the yeast infection. So be careful. If it's not better by tomorrow, go to a Dr.

Eat yogurt to help prevent the yeast infection, and yes, go ahead and call the doctor.

There is a product called "Sweet Oil" which is inexpensive, and it helps. It also helps to apply heat. I would call and ask about a decongestant or some mucinex or something to relieve the pressure.

Ya I don't seem to have a whole lot of pressure now. It is weird like I got fluid of some kind in my ear still. I am afraid to use a heating pad because I think that is what made it worse in the first place. I dunno.

I used to get them all the time too....but I was given some sort of oil and you warm it and put it in your ear....it loosens all the wax etc and somehow warms the inside so the pain goes away....but this was a very long time ago! I only get them now when I am overtired....I hope you feel better soon!

Ya the hospital gave me some numbing drops but they don't work like when I first had it. They seem to irritate the inside of my ear after they dry. I don't like them. Although that was the first thing they used when I got into the hospital and it did help the pain for that moment.

like any infection it takes time even with antibiotics but my doctor always said if it is not better by the time you use up all the antibiotics come back . so give yourself a certain time and if its not better by then go back to your doctor as you may need a different or stronger antibiotic.

Yep, but what to do until then. I am just tired of being in this annoying pain. :)
