what will you do when you can't fall asleep?

now it's 1:30 am, very late, but there's still no desire to sleep for me. i went to bed about one hour ago, just couldn't get asleep. i know sleeping late is very bad for health. it can cause skin problems like pimples, therefore affect my beauty. so i forced myself to sleep, struggled for one hour, i failed. that's why now i'm on Mylot. so what will you do when you can't fall asleep? do you agree it's annoying when you want to sleep but there's no desire to? hope you can share some interesting solutions with me. thanks.

Do what Mr. Bean does, "count the sheep" with a twist. That is count them and use a calculator so that you will not missed any of them. lol. But personally, when I can't sleep I tend to read some books or watch television until my eyes were tired. Sometimes if it doesn't help, I sneaked into the kitchen and have a hot milk to drink. It really works for me and hope you try it too.

sometimes i do count sheep when i can't fall asleep. a cup of hot milk is a good idea. thx for sharing

Helo Canteen me too often do have some problem in sleeping at night, even might not get asleep till 3-4 am in the morning.Think its our own fault, if our body get that much tired enough to sleep than its good for our health.But sometimes we do take more than required rest and than struggle to get a little sleep.Even when am missing my night dinner it makes me sleepless in the night.Its our pyhscologial probem, sometimes strssed, or excited, etc stuff in our mind.Well i simply prefer to some online activities or watch some TV in order to get sleepy mood, than lay in the sleeping postions with the lights off.Even don't get it when am asleep doing this stuffs.Happy mylotting.

thanks for replying. after posting for almost one hour, finally my brian can't work any more. so i plan to go to bed again now, though i still want to read a novel. i'll leave the reading for tomorrow. hope you sleep tight tonight.

I play with cellphone games, especially bookworm, really drags my eyes down haha. Or I read a book, or imagine that I am already sleeping and dreaming of something hehehe.

Well, I have the same problem as you tonight. I went to bed earlier but after turning around in my bed for one hour I decided to get up and come on MyLot to find ways to fall asleep. Usually I take melatonin, but I don't want to take them often so tonight it's a no go for those pills. The good thing is that tomorrow I don't have to get up early for work, but still, I hope to feel tired soon and fall asleep easily. Sleep well...

meditation will just make my brain more excited. maybe that's because i'm Pisces, we Pisces are very good at daydreams. but daydreams don't need to close the eyes. haha.

i think of a lot things before going to sleep. while listening to music, i try to think of what happened to that day, people i want to think of, sometimes send text messages to my family telling goodnight.. i don't normally force myself, that would give me headaches and probably wakes up in the wrong side of the bed.

The first thing I do when I am not able to sleep is reading some boring books...specially the one with out any pics and with small prints.....doing this strain my eyes a little but it always works and I get a sleep....If I don't have any such books available I try to listen to some smooth old classical music...

Hi Canteen, whenever I cann't fall asleep, first I will try hard for that by looking at one object in the mild light. then also if i cann't i will counting numbers in reverse order like 1000,999,998,997...like this. by the time i reach 1 most of the times i feel asleep. this is a nice technique tought by my hubby. it really works for me. try it next time.

At night and you can't sleep, for me soft music is the answer. Just play your favourite music especially if you are into blues, they might just work for you. You won't even remember to swith off.

try some mint chamomile tea. will help you. i drink a cup of hot mint chamomile tea before bed time everyday.

i've already experience that many times, specially when im worried of something.It's really annoying whenever you want to sleep and you just can't fall asleep. The more you forced yourself to sleep the more you will stay awake, and it brings me head ache .I suggest you try this (i've tried this and its effective)- if you cant fall asleep even if you wanted to, dont force yourself, it will just brings you head ache. Instead, get out of bed and take a walk outside your room, (much better if you have a terrace or garden, take some fresh air outside.after your short walk, drink warm milk and eat 1 pc. of small banana.you may take another short walk after that, then go back to bed, and while lying try this deep breathing exercise: place one hand on your abdomen, inhale slowly and deeply through your nose into your abdomen to push up your hand as much as feels comfortable.Exhale through your mouth making a quiet sound as you gently blow out. Continue taking long, slow, deep breaths raising and lowering your abdomen, as you become more and more relaxed.Your focus now is on your breathing and not the desire to sleep, as you continue this exercises and become more relaxed, then you are on your way to a good night sleep...Sweet Dreams....

If I get trouble sleeping, I will take a bath until I feel refresh, I pray, and write in my journal.. oh, sometimes exercise helps but I get too lazy to do it , though

Hi Canteen, when I can't sleep, I try not to worry about it. The more I force myself to sleep, the worse it becomes - I would get frustrated and anxious, and that in turn, causes more stress. So I would either read a book or watch TV until I finally drift off to sleep.

Hey there, If I can't fall asleep, I normally stretch out my legs and have them in a straight position. Then, I would move my feet up and hold for 5 secs and down and hold for 5 secs. Do it consecutively for about 5-10 mins and you may be able to see the results. It works for me though.

hi friend some time when i am in any stress i too wont get sleep.if i don't sleep for long time i will get headache that is the problem with me friend.so if i don't get sleep i will close my eyes and will start number counting in mind and slowly i will get sleep friend.you too try this way and see :) have a nice day :)

I like to write. Often I can't sleep because I have things on my mind so I write them down as way of getting it out so I can relax and think about it the next day knowing I can't forget as it is written down. Even writing something random, for example something creative like a poem, or even just a list of things to do the next day can make you sleepy.

On the very rare moments I can't sleep I lay in bed and visualise the ocean and the sound of waves lapping on the shoreline. That works for me every time.
