What do you do when you are stressed?

I wonder. I know some people eat - I am more likely to eat out of boredom than stress. I sleep. So, if I'm stressed, I'm probably asleep. When we went to Houston to film the Judge Alex segment, when we weren't doing something I was sleeping. I hadn't noticed that I did it before, but the roomie pointed it out and its true... So, what do you do when you get stressed? Eat? Sit up and worry? or are you like me and sleep?

Hi, I often get a sufficient amount of sleep after being stressed out. But I've recently found a better way to completely sweep away the sensation of stress. That is meditation. You know guys, meditation can relax your body and mind even 10 times more than a sound sleep. I've seen some people meditating for the whole night, days after days. Meditation is a great medicine for stress. I would suggest you read this article on meditation. http://enlightenedsoul.wordpress.com/ Take care God bless you all

I've never figured out meditating, its like one of those "tricks" that some people can do - I've tried and tried, and when I TRY to empty my mind, I can't do it, when I don't try, then I can sit with a totally empty mind for minutes on end, staring into space.

Hi, Those two things are totally different things. In meditation, until you perfect the skill, you have to give effort to blank your mind. The main conception is the rejection of thoughts. Probably you've followed the link I've given here. I've mentioned there, that every thought directly or indirectly relate to the situation we are actually want to avoid. The purpose of meditation is not to avoid the situation at all. But it would put you in an indifferent ground, so that changing your perspective from a victim to a troubleshooter becomes easier. It gives you strength. One who has perfected it can control anything in his mind. Like he can decide for himself what to think about something or not. That's not a miracle. It needs practice. Take care.. God bless you

Apparently a lot of you have that reaction - but if I stay away, I think about the stresses and if I can't fix it, all it does is make my stomach hurt and I really don't want to get an ulcer - I've been pre-ulcer 3 times and those things HURT!!!

I really only do the sleeping retreat when I'm in a situation where I can't do anything - like with the whole Judge Alex thing - until the show was on, I couldn't do anything - and so I just slept.

It never aired, I think they only agreed to do it because they wouldn't be out any more money if they did it. See, she lied to them, Medicaid payed for her child's visit to the hospital - she was claiming that she wanted the money back - all I wanted was the case to be dismissed with prejudice - meaning she could never sue about it again.

I fidget...lol. When I'm stressed I HAVE to be doing something. Twidling my thumbs, cleaning house, pacing the floor. It doesn't matter what, I just have to do something.

If I stay awake, then I worry about what is stressing me and that makes my stomach hurt. I'd rather not think about it and sleep!

Hi Elic; When I am stressed, I like to be by myself, sort of like a time out and sip a warm cup of herb tea. If I am Super stressed I can be found in the bat tub of warm bubbly water and a container of mango yogurt. Truth! It used to be with a container of triple fudge brownie overload ice cream but have since down graded to the yogurt. I seem to enjoy it more. Almost always, when there is stress, there is going to have to be chocolate. Chocolate, for me, cures everything!

Nice! Thanks for the heads up on chocolate yogurt. I am not sure that I would be up for it though. I'd have to try it first. Thanks though, for this tip. When you are stressed and can't sleep, I think to get up and either read or even write out your thoughts would indeed prove to be most helpful. Eating is not a good thing to do to suppress stress. If you choose to eat, low fat or no fat is best. IE: Grapes, Fresh vegies etc.

there's chocolate yogurt ya know... and its yummy!!! and its low fat or fat free - have to go look and not going to do it now, when my hot tub was working, and the former roomie stressed me out, we'd go out there with a soda and CHEESECAKE!!!

I only slept a lot when my Mom was dying of cancer. The entire situation took my appetite away and seemed hopeless. I normally eat when I'm stressed and believe there has to be a way to deal with a situation and make it better. I also eat out when I'm at home and the refrigerator seems to be there, just calling me.

the diet is really helped by not having bad foods in the house When we started, I took everything that was opened and threw them away and we gradually weeded out those things that were totally off and took them either to my client or the roomie's folks

Yeah, that's what I try to tell my husband, I need all the crap out of the house, but he isn't on the diet and says it's his house, too, plus he just bought a bunch of chocolate pudding.

Hey, I know you're not asking me that, 'cause you must know by now! I sleep. AND I eat. And I read. Watch TV. Play on the computer. Talk too much. Get totally freaked over nothing..., & furthermore--WOOOOT!! In short, the same stuff I do when I'm not depressed or stressed! Well, except for that last...although, even that has its non-stressed mirror: I get giggly over nothing! Ah, yes, the joys of being bi-polar....;^Q Maggiepie MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY 2010!!!

Usually i eat a lot when i am in stress. But recently i have to change my habit since i am growing bigger and BIGGER! My friends told me i am TOO FAT already! So, since the last 2 months (Which i also started my diet), i always have a small pillow in my briefcase. Then when i'm stressed, i'll put the pillow on my face and scream. I find it quite effective though.

I see, I've heard of scream therapy, but I've never found it to work for me. I am also too fat, and if I eat when I'm bored... guess what that says? I've been on my "new life style" for 7 months and am down about 45 lbs.

I'm actually not stressed too much lately, not like when I was going to be on Judge Alex. You are in a situation that you have no control over and all you can do is wait until its your time...

Actually we are so much alike, dont you think? Our problem and way of solving are quite the same initially. Its just that the alternative, 2nd solution are different. Anyway i hope you'll find other way of overcoming stress. It would not be good if you using sleep as your solution everytime you get stressed up. You will feel very weak if you sleep for long hours. Good luck!

I would say I sleep. If there is something bothering me or that I don't want to think about, I'll just sleep. Things usually seem better after I wake up. Sometimes I eat when I am stressed, but usually I sleep. When I was younger and broke up with a guy or something I would not eat. I lost weight that way, but I don't do that anymore.

I have never had that problem - not eating - unless it was the summer my gall bladder was going out - then, whenever I ate, I felt like I was DYING!

I only had that when I was younger, and I didn't see it as a problem. I've been on a diet all my life. If it was because of a guy, it seemed ironic that there wasn't a guy around when I had lost weight. When my gallbladder went eating didn't seem to bother me.

I was stressed earlier today because there was a problem with the "waterworks" in the house. My husband came home from work and - hopefully - someone will be round on Saturday to resolve it. At the time though, I was in a right state because seeing water coming through the ceiling is stressful in itself. Of course, being a woman, I started crying, especially when I tried to turn the water off! As soon as my hubby gave me a hug, though, I felt OK. I'd probably still be stressed if I was on my own!

my house was built in the 1970's, not enough plugs/outlets for the modern needs and I've YET to figure out HOW they decided WHAT needed to be on which circuit! like the kitchen stove is on the same circuit as one of the bedrooms, and one wall in 2 bedrooms is on the same as part of the living room - and then there's the circuit I call the "exploding circuit" that powered part of one outlet in the kitchen and seemingly NOTHING else! I call it "exploding" because you'd turn off the power to that outlet and still give the person working on it a shock!

Well he did come home eventually but if the boiler is on to heat the water and the radiators at the same time...when it is turned off overnight then back on again the leak comes back! I have since had a shower via an electric version but the problem is with the water pipes so the leak did come back afterwards. I have turned the cold water tap off downstairs so I'm hoping that the leaking eases off for now. Obviously, hubby is aware of the situation because I rang him up...again lol. We have my father-in-law and his daughter's boyfriend (heating engineer) coming round tomorrow and the insurers have also been contacted. Apparently, it will be a money settlement so I'm hoping I'll at least get a new - more energy-efficient boiler out of them! Fat chance!! This house was built in the 1920s and isn't designed for 21st Century living. "The House that Jack built" is how my hubby, John describes it...and he's not far wrong.

When I'm stressed I cannot sleep. I'll lay down and I'll just toss and turn because my mind will wander. Sometimes I tend to eat more if I'm stressed and other times I just end up not eating at all. It really just varies on how stressed I am as to what I end up doing.

Stress? What's that? LOL. Stress affects everyone differently. Some eat to relieve it, some sleep, some exercise, some smoke (guilty), some garden and some like me, throw themselves into their creative pursuits and turn the stress into something that can be seen or read for years to come. I found that by doing cross stitch or my writing, I am able to get my stress under control quickly, and my work goes faster too. Not sure why, but it does and is a better quality. The other thing I do is rip into the weeds in the garden, which is fantastic! I love getting out there and letting dirt and weeds fly. Then I can better see what other areas need more work on or what plants I have managed to kill

Well usually I go and have a smoke when stress hits me. But then I go somewhere quite, close my eyes and focus on what my goal in life is, my dream home and what I would do each day. It's amazing how quickly just focusing on something you both desire and working towards makes the stress not so much go away beut become more barable.

Generally, when I'm sleeping, I'm just passing time until the problem can go away - I have generally done all I can do and now its a waiting game, but with the stress and other stuff.
