How good are you at geography?

Hi to all in MyLot Land, :) I have an okay knowledge of geography. I know where all the states in my country are and major countries around the world. Only the very basics. Most of which I never picked up in school, but as an adult I realized I needed to study it. I think it's odd when someone doesn't know something about geography and people make a huge deal about it, like because they don't know where a far away country is they must be rally dumb. How frequently does the average person use there knowledge of geography? (of places far away or places they never go to) When hearing about world news it's useful but I don't think it's a huge problem not to know most of this stuff. How good are you at geography and do you think it really matters all that much?

Honestly I am very bad at this! I hated geography as a subject in school and was so relieved when it finally left it after I took up science in high school! I really don't have much idea about the world geography and surely not a person to be referred in case you need knowledge about the country I live in! Well,my lack of knowledge in this domain hasn't yet posed any serious hurdle in my way yet but still I think you should have some basic knowledge about everything, even if you don't get into the heart of the ocean you must know about the surface at least!

I am not good at geography although I am a student!! I just can't memorize most of the countries and states , it's too hard for me!!! I don't think having a good knowledge of geography is important in life for me! I know most of the provinces in our country and several major countries in the world , I think that's enough!! I won't spend some time to study geography! I dislike it

Well in my job it is pretty important as I work in travel so it is vital to know how far it is to fly for customers - of course I can never know everywhere but, I try to keep my knowledge as high as I can where possible. For example I mainly sell the Far east and european cities so they are where my main knowledge is!

I think a good general knowledge is good to have. I am not real good in geography. I know the seven continents and where most of the larger countries are. But all I have is a basic general knowledge.

...Hi UpsideDownPineapple, I am terrible, horrible, and very bad at geography. I know the United States pretty good, that means I basically know what states are in the east, west, north and south. Also that Alaska and Hawaii are a part of the country. I know England sits out there somewhere and that Canada is to our north and Mexico is to our southwest, Cuba southeast. Now, after that you have to give me a map and some time to find other countrues you might be interested in having me locate. So I need remedial education on geography. I will continue to learn. I don't think it makes one dumb not to know a lot of geographical informatiom. I am sure they have other things that they know very well, that those well versed in geography may not know. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses in knowledge accumulation. Take care.

I'm not good in geography.. haha =D I only studied it for about 2 years, before i switched over to history instead.. hehe ^_^ Geography is not about states and places, or what we see.. It's much more than that, such as earth movements, under the ground, platelets etc, and many more.. haha =D It's too complicated for me, and thus i gave it up.. haha =D

Same here, i have basic geography knowledge, i can use it handle the normal use. But i am really bad at direction, if i am alone by myself in a city. If i don't have the hotel card with me, i could never go back to where i start. I wonder if all girls are weak at dirctions.

Well you might get away with not knowing geography but a reasonable knowledge of it helps a lot.I myself am not great at it but knowing the basics can help a lot at times.Knowing your country is a must and you should also know about countries around the world just in case you get a chance to travel to one of them.At least before getting into a journey, people should make it a point to find out the details about the destination so that they are more comfortable moving there.

I am okay. Actually, two days ago, two of my friends and I we were discussing the map of the world, one my friends was able to draw it pretty well. I noticed that I can draw the continents pretty well, but to draw each individual country and know where theyre located and their shape is really hard. Of course, there's the few basic ones like the U.S, Canada, Italy, japan, mostly the countries that are on the outside or that are talked about often. I don't think it's necessary for everyone to know the whole world map, but to at least have an idea of where each country might be in what continent. Then again, it really depends on what knowledge do you need for your everyday life. I think It just depends on the person on how much they want to know.
