i have noticed some users say they rate everyone, some say they do not even bother, some say that they hit all positives. Others ask why bother? I do remember what mylot admins told me when I had complained about my ten star being minused over night to a five. They told me first, they had caught the two trolls, and banned them, then they said do rate everyone you can as it will ultimately help your own rating to move up. So that is what I do. I hit positive if I think it deserves it and almost all I have replied to do deserve it, and if there is anything really insulting in it I do not hit minus, I simply report this. I have only reported once and that was a really bad, flaming thing. My question to you is do you believe as I do that its good to rate everyone each time we post? That it will ultimately do as admins says, help our own ratings?

Hi Hatley! I am doing it your way too as far as the rating is concerned. I do not neg rate anyone because if it is correct that our own star suffers, then mine will never go up! I know many friends are worried that mine doesn't budge at all so the last thing I would do is try and hinder their efforts. I do report a lot of stuff though, especially in the money interests. Alice told us that reporting does not affect our rating so I shall continue to do so because I am convinced it is for the benefit of everyone when spammers, plagiarists and cheats lose their posts and eventually give up.

Oh yes - that one! As if I come here and type and then give my earnings to someone else just because they ask I am over in the money interests most of the time recently and the admins are very quick to delete the violations, even before there is time to report them Seems they are really trying hard to keep it as it should be.

hi diana thats good to know as I was not sure, then I will start to report specially those money things as they drive me nuts.Yes cheats are so unfair, and I see them occasionally too. I never' neg anyone but when some person really lit into one of my discussions my mylot friends did an excellent job of reporting and when I went to the last page where they said all these vicious reponses had been they were all deleted. So yes you are right its all for our benefit to get rid of spammers.I do not give negs to anyone, if something is really wrong its best to just report it. like the one person who wanted all mylotters to put a dollar in his paypal , that was a bit much.

If asking doesn't convince you to give a person your earnings, then does bribery work? Seriously, I haven't had time lately to be much of anywhere except my own discussion, which I am very pleased about. I am glad to hear that Admin has been making their presence known on here more, though. Even though we are asked to report and assured that our star rating will not be affected by doing so, maybe now I can go into certain interests and be able to respond without seeing anything that I would need to report. That would be a lovely thing.

I only rate when something hits me strongly in one way or another. If there is something written that I really adore I will praise it and if there is something I find just horrible I denounce it. I think that's what the system is really there for. I know there are those who do it anytime someone agrees or disagree with them but I think that is a bit abusive.

hi mylot admins told me that we should rate all the time as it helps everyone on my lot, so thats why I do it. whether or not I agree does not matter,if its a good response I alw ays hit positive as that is what the guidelines and rules tells us to think when we rate, do not minus because you disagree, no that is right, rate for the goodness of the response whether it agrees or disagrees with your own idea. dont abuse anyone,if you disagree and you cannot make yourself hit positive then pass on by. I am just saying what mylot admins did tell me, and how I think on this.

Hi Hatley! I have not thought too seriously about this but I do keep rating most of my responss positive.THe only reason is that someone has been kind enough to respond to my discussion and so I wish to return the favour by rating it positive.I have had the good fortune to have always got polite answers except one occasion when someone was unnecessarily rude.

I didn't know it helped our own ratings. Like you, I don't use the "-" sign. If someone was nice enough to reply to my discussion I "+" them, especially if they are disagreeing with me in a constructive and educational manner. When I reply to a discussion, I give the author a "+" and as many of the responders as I can, too. I don't think the number on our star affects our earnings, does it? I never really cared much how high it was although it did make me feel good when it hit a 10.

We are told in the FAQs that it does affect our earnings. Users with higher stars will earn more for the same post than a user with a lower star would. : http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx#1

Hi Dragon, The rating will affect your earnings. I did not pay attention on the FAQs,but it really prove to be. My colleage refered this site to me and she advised that the earning will be affected by the rating and it would be better if I obtained the best response from that discussion. Then I treated every post in serious manner and realized that my earning of every discussion is higher than that of my colleague. If I posted a new discussion, I will give a best response and positive mark. If the discussion is just for leaving the words there, I will leave it and did not give any response and surely I would not iike to give any minus marks. sasa

Well, if you rate everything positively, in a way it's kind of pointless. But because of they way it works here on myLot, I do it anyway. If somebody's really abusive I might neg them or report them, depending on how abusive they get. But generally I just rate everybody positive.

hi dawnald yes I had thought that but after a brush w ith the trolls I got the info from admins that its good for all mylottes if we all practice rating as we go. I have only minused one or two but several times something was so really really bad I just reported it because it was horribly abusive and was all pointed at one or two people here so I felt the admins should see this. usually I just rate everyone positive as I still remember how horrid I felt being taken down to a five.

I still regularly rate too. Its become a habit for me. I hit the positive all the time. I have only hit the negative one time and that person deserved it. I have also reported someone two times, they also deserved that. Some of us have been here a long time, we want mylot to be here a long time coming. This is OUR community, we don't want or need the trash. We are very welcoming to newbies, we welcome them with open arms. At the same time we don't have to put up with anyones crap.

I am one that does appreciate all my responses and I feel disapppointed when I don't get responses, therefore everyone always gets a rating on their response to me. I positively rate everyone that responds to one of my discussions - unless they actually ask to not be rated - for whatever reason... I have, once or twice, accidentally rated someone negatively, but I'll probably not rate someone before I do that if they respond in a way that doesn't seem related to the discussion. I've seldom reported - I know that some people seem to take a JOY in reporting, but I've got better things to do - like play a game!

If I start a discussion I rate everyone that responds to that discussion. This helps later on as it enables me to see new comments by scanning the page for things that are not rated rather than just reading everything all over again. If I respond to a discussion then I rate that discussion as well. Like this one, as soon as my comment is posted I will go to the top of the comments and rate your discussion with the plus sign

I only rate someone negative if they are a troll, rude, racist, or condone evil or bad behavior. Evil people deserve it. I will rate people positive if he response is polite and well thought out, even if I personally disagree with them. I don't have to agree with someone to respect them. Well, I tend to give my friends and kitty people a positive easily, especially on kitty discussions. I love cats.

I do not rate everyone, but when I rate I usually only rate positively. I have only ever negatively rated once, and the comment was deleted for being abusive, so I am not sure whether or not the rating counted. We are only allowed to rate a person eleven times in one day, though, and I encounter some people more than that in one day, so I will not rate everything. I do rate things that I think are of value, especially if somebody disagrees and states their difference of opinion in a respectful and informative manner. These type of responses are the ones that I feel should definitely be rated positively, because they foster discussion and dialog on a topic while still maintaining a positive attitude.

Wow, talk about feeling out of place. Seems like everyone that has responded to your discussion has a huge star rating. Having just started being active on myLot, I have not started rating anyone yet, but appreciate you bring up this discussion to help me learn more about myLot everyday. I have a hard time being negative and would probably have a difficult time with negative ratings unless the person really did something outrageous bad. I have not seen any activity on this forum so far that would probably make me go negative.

I haven't figured this rating thing out yet. I admit, I do a lot more reading and posting that I do rating. I try to remember to do it whenever I can. I try and make it a point to rate good quality, relevant and helpful posts positively and I only rate posts negatively if they are obvious spam or abusive or mean. I try and rate at least once or twice every time I am on MyLot. When I post, I try and be helpful, honest and write quality responses, yet I still have a low rating, which makes me tend to think that most people don't bother rating much at all. Oh well... I just keep on posting.

It sounds like you are using the rating system the way that it was intended to be used. I have seen people with stars far lower than what they deserve (and others that were higher but this happens far less often), in my opinion, and those are the times that I question whether or not the system really works the way it is supposed to work. I have not really seen you around much, so I can't say anything about your star rating except that you are a "newer" user with a lower post count, so it does not take as much for your star rating to fluctuate (or at least that is the way it seems from what I have seen on here). Therefore, if you keep posting quality discussions and responses, then your star should be on the rise fairly quickly.

hi miller and purple yes when you are first here your rating is low as people have not really taken you in yet but as they grow to know you and to rate you positive your rating goes up and as your star gets higher then it moves up a bit faster from what I have seen. I think a lot of people just do not remember to rate and as the rating is done by us we all really should rate all the time, I know its not always that easy.

Hiya Hatley.. Normally, I would avoid the minus button wherever I can. I only concentrate on the positive sign, especially with friends making positive and very interesting posts and comments. I think we should help one another in the lot, and if that proves to be a tiny rating of positive from me, I'll do it. Anyway, it feels so sincere because I can show my happy emotions and naturally to plus it makes sense to me. I know that stars affect our ratings, but I don't think by rating others positive, our ratings will increase.

Hi hatley, First of all I would love to greet you belated merry christmas and happy new year.i have been out for a very long time.I don't know what are the updates now. But i know and i believe that you are there to help me or to update me. With your concern about rating a response, I always do that. It is the only thing that you can do aside from ceommenting on the respondents of your discussion.Giving rating to responses, only means to say that you get to appreciate the response of your fellow member.I think you are right in saying that your ratings increases when you rate one member in his/her response.I started with number. I just post, post and post and did not even bother to rate responses of the respondents. At the later part of being a member here,i came to realize that i should rate and i appreciate all responses in my discussions, and now I am very glad because my star is now 9. Thanks for bringing up this wonderful discussion.

How I usually do it is I rate discussions that I feel are worth it, if the discussion isn't of good quality I don't rate it. If I come across a discussion that is insulting or bad I do not rate it either, I am like you and just report it. I guess I understand the rating process but there is also a part of me that doesn't like it because of the simple fact that someone can easily come in and leave you a negative for no reason and hurt you rating so badly like the trolls did when they were here.

MyLot will not tell us exactly how the rating system works or how it is weighted. They do say, though, that they keep track of the people that abuse the rating system and negatively rating for no good reason will hurt our own stars. However, it seems like it does not take very many negative ratings to bring someone's rating down one point, but it does take a lot of positive ratings to raise it a point, especially if the user has a high post count (or at least that is the way that it seems to work, but again that is just my observation and by no means meant to be taken as a fact). I do know that the issue was raised in the discussions by GoAskAlice, and hopefully there will be a change to the rating system soon that will be a little more fair to the users, especially the ones that have been unfairly negative rated and had their star ratings suffer.

Hiya Hatley, If I give someone a positive rating it´s because I think they deserve it. Well that´s the way I feel in that moment. Other People feel different and will rate what they want to rate as deserving. Really I never give it a second thought and I always turn a blind eye to those other kind of discussions going on. I just surf onto something else lighter and more digestible. I never bother hitting the minus button either I just ignore them.

Hiya Hatley, That´s right there is so much conflict in this World already why bother to make an ocean out of a raindrop? All Storms in a Teacup pass some quicker than others. Someone once gave a friend a bad critic and I told her just delete him but before that go to his page and see how and what he writes it was just a load of rehash what he had written this is another program I´m talking about here and I thought to myself well you are not so bright yourself are you? These kind of People are much lesser when they don´t get the attention they think they deserve by downrating other People. I think their Fire goes out much quicker. It´s not that I´m going to rate everyone and everything I read either because then I would not be using common sense sometimes though three lines can speak more strongly than a whole page of text depends on how it´s written.

I think that is a good thing to do because it will help other people who have wrote something good and it will also benefit ourselves with our ratings. But even if you don't rate anyone at all, there will probably not be any noticeable difference. In the end I would say you wouldn't need to rate everyone, but instead you could just give them a plus or minus depending on the situation; you can just leave some posts unrated.
