I try to groom my own dog instead of sending him to the groomer. He puts up a fight no matter how much he gets groomed he just don't get used to it.It's costly for me to send him to a groomer, but I always end up doing that.I'm looking for some good methods to get hi8m to cooperate with it.Tomorrow I'm gonna groom him myself, because I'm gonna tire him out and maybe he'll relax for it.I hope it works. What do you do about grooming your dog?

I groom our dogs myself. We have a Northern Inuit that weights about a hundred and twenty pounds. When I first started to groom him he would fight me. Now he is a lot easier because I have learned ways to calm him down. When I am going to use clippers on him I turned them on and let them sit at first while I pet Cujo. Then after a couple of minutes I pick the clippers up and start to trim his fur. While I trim his fur I continue to pet Cujo so that he doesn't really notice that I am doing anything to his fur. I am lucky that I don't have to trim Cujos nails, walking Cujo two miles a day takes care of them. We have a six month old poodle mix that I grrom as well. I usually place Furball between my legs while I trim her up. She hasn't been a problem to groom at all.

Hi Java! What kind of dog is he? I groom my own dogs too. Saves me lots of money. Well dear the best way to get him to cooperate is to tire him out. Take him for a run or hike or play with him till hes tired. Once hes tired hes not going to be to worried about what your doing. Also you have to have a calm but assertive tone and mind. If your already assuming it wont happen it wont. o into it thinking you will get the grooming done no problems. Now I dont know bout your dog but some dont like the sound of the clippers. If he freaks everytime tou turn them on theres a few things you can do. Get a friend to help you. The friend stands at head of dog and offers small pieces of say hot dog. This gets the dogs attention while you are able to clip him. Another thing that works is to muzzle them. Just a soft cloth muzzle. There attention will be on that not you. I have to use on for one of my dogs. Shes not mean just dosent cooperate all the time. Now she knows muzzle comes out she relaxes and lets me groom her. Good luck to you!!! ~May The Kisses Of An Angel Cover And Protect You Always~ Copper

First I need to buy a clipper specifically for a dog.I tried my regular clipper yesterday and it doesn't cut his hair.I have a lhasa apso.I'm gonna try the tired out routine for him.I took him on a long walk yesterday and I started to try to clip him but I need a better clipper. My dog fights everything I try to do with him,but I think your method will work.

I can trim his nails but nothing else. After I posted this discussion,I tried to shave him and he was gonna let me,but I think I need a clipper for the dog.I used my regular clippers I have and it wouldn't clip his hair.So I think I need one made just for dogs.

I use to take him to get groomer about twice a year and the inbetween do it myself. Now with no job I do it all myself all the time. I cut his hair one day then the next day I put him in the tub and bath him then dry his hair with a hairdryer. My Cody (shih tzu) doesn't like it much but he deals with it because I have him trapped in the bathroom. It takes a lot of work and it gets harder as the years go by. Good luck in grooming your dog today. I will probably be grooming my dog next weekend.
