Do you ever feel like you are surrounded by idiots?

I have the easiest job on my campus - I make sure the computer lab is quiet, clean, and the printer is stocked with paper. Thats it! (Perfect Mylot time too!) However, I think that some of my fellow students need to go WAY back in their schooling. I have a paper sign right on my desk stating that the "Stapler is BROKEN" and I still get asked 20 times a day where it is. I have been asked things like "How do I check my e-mail?" and "How do you get paper in the printer?" Are those really hard to do and I am overreacting or should college be a little harder to get in to? Have you had any days where you feel like you are the only intelligent person around?

In your case, i want to think that not all student in your school are literate and can read well in English. Or may be they are far sighted to be able to read those words on your paper sign right in front of them... Or they just messing with you and try to give you some tasks to do instead of doing nothing in the easiest job you are holding now.....lol!!

I think i finally figure out why they behave this way, since you are working in a computer lab, you need to have whatever sign you want to place in front of you in digital form, like binary or in computer language like Pascal , Basic or Fortran etc... words don't make no more sense to these student after taken some computer courses for a while.... they little brains only can recognize 0 and 1 and series of dot....... har ha...ha....ha..

Lol - no they just dont look at their surrounding. They just glare at me or stare at me with an odd expression when I tell them that its broken. I just think they need to learn to be more observant.

Of course I don't think you need to know these things to get into college but I think college needs to make basic computer classes mandatory. Secondly, the whole people not reading signs thing, well you'll never get over that. People will just ignore what's right in front of them because a lot of them, especially college students are idiots. I don't work with too many college students but the people I do work with do drive me crazy. I'm not sure how some of them got hired in the first place. I don't think some of them really know what they're doing.

The sad thing is - Computers and Info Access IS one of our mandatory classes. No matter what your major is you have to have that class to graduate. As for the sign - I finally had someone today say, "That was a dumb question. There is a giant sign in front of me!" I just had to smile back at him. Finally - someone pays attention!

Well, since I am a teacher I have this feeling almost every day, when I go to school. The students become more and more stupid with every year and that is not only my opinion! My colleagues say it too! Sometimes I think like a have to teach a complete idiots and I go crazy!

I would not want to say that I am surrounded by idiots at times but at the same time, there is no logical explanation for some of my interactions with people. I think I am the only one who has a clue of what's going on around them at times. So there are days where I feel I have a clue and everyone else is mentally gone. Those days are frustrating, as its hard to function when everyone else seems to be not exactly getting anything.

I understand completely! Some days it just seems like you are on an alien planet but you know you aren't! Just know that you aren't alone and eventually everyone will catch up to you on those days. Thanks for responding!
