in China, the last name is our given name. very few people call my last name directly. coz there's only one character in my last name, if someone call it directly, it indicates he has a very very close relationship with me. i think only the one loves me very much will call me that way. i don't know if you can understand it, it's hard to explain why, it's just the Chinese culture. usually my friends and my family call my nick name. i'm feel weird if someone calls my last name suddenly.

I totally hate when people call me in my last name instead of my first name. I say so because I feel it as a disrespect to my whole family and race. People better address us properly in our names given for them to be called properly too.

No I don't want to call by my last name. When I was in high school my classmates call me by my last name and I hate everytime they are calling me like that. When I went in college they call me by my first name because for me it is much nice if you call other people by their names.

No, its too formal me. I would still want to call me by my given name to know that this someone calling me really knows me.

I don't mind, but I prefer being called with my first. Back in high school it was common among our batch, especially with the boys. In college, it was more of a way to formally address a student. The thing is, I've changed my last name (well, technically, I used my real last name, long story), and my last name before sounds better than what I'm using now. So I guess I would feel awkward being called my new real surname.
