God Gives Trials and Testings?

Does God really give us trials/ testings or He just "allows" them to test the faith of His children? I see people are saying when hardships come upon you: Don't give up because God is just testing you. He won't give you trials that you cannot bear. Is that true? Does God give trials to us to test us. Would it not be unfair for people currently experiencing misery in their life to hear those words "that God is just testing them?" Would it not add to their misery when they hear those words? And they may accuse God of being unfair, unjust and instead of coming to Him, might just blame Him and turn away from Him because of "these ideas that God is just testing them" when hardships come upon them. Wouldn't it be better if we just pray for them silently until they got better and then start saying "words of encouragement?" So my question is: Does God really give us trials or He just allows them. Where does this idea that "God gives trials because He is just testing us" originate from? I don't see it anywhere in the bible.

If we were to sit back and analyse any trials we have faced, we can always trace them back to one of two things. Either, the trial has come about because of our own foolish/willful/greedy/self-centred etc actions or by the foolish/harmful/spiteful/selfish etc actions of other people. In either case, God can and often does use these things to teach His children a lesson, but we cannot say that God caused them or that He gave them to us for that purpose. Jesus Himself said that in this world we WILL have tribulations, but He also promised that tribulations bring patience and other virtues. We learn from trials and tribulations and because of them, we grow and become more Christlike. When are lives are committed to a relationship with our Father God, we expect Him to guide and direct us and to challenge and correct us. We expect Him to show us where we have erred, and He often uses trials to do this. I know that I can look back on trials in my life (some of them quite severe tribulations) and I can be truly THANKFUL for them, because God used them to mature me and to make me what I am.

Hi cloudwatcher. That's it. God does not give us trials and testings. It is our own doing for the most but God uses them to mold our character to be like Him. You got my point here.

God gives each and every one of us a trial, even the person who is experiencing misery in life. He's just testing our faith in Him. Don't think too much of your problem because God is more powerful and bigger than your trials. Yes, we have problems but that doesn't mean that we must focus on that and blame God for giving us trials. God wants is that we draw near to him and walk in faith. God will not give you trials you can't bear. God loves us! And with trials and testing, He will not leave us nor forsake us because we are his children.

God just allows trials but he did not cause it. Problems come to us from our own foolishness and mistakes. They don't come from God.

To tackle it in a little different way: We live in a fallen, imperfect world so we're going to run into troubles. The Bible says that it rains on the just and the unjust and God doesn't stop that. Sometimes it seems that Christians have more troubles (especially if you're a Christian!) but look around and see those who don't know Christ - look at their troubles. I would not want to face many of them without the support and love of God. Again: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Every temptation we suffer is common to all. We who know God can be secure in knowing that He will not allow anything to come against us that we cannot handle with His help. Does God send trials and temptations? I think it's more a matter of "allowing," although under a microscope, the two "giving" and "allowing" look pretty much the same. If He can stop anything (and He can), then if He doesn't stop it, He's sending it our way... or is He just allowing it? I'm not sure there is a difference.

Hi peavey. Since making Christ as my Lord and Savior I know how to face trials in life and become stronger now. Thank God. Back to our discussion, the verse you have mentioned is in I Corinthians 10:13, one of my favorite verse in the bible. In the NIV version, it says, "...And God is faithful; he will not letyou be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. The word use there is let which is similar to "allow". I do believe based in the bible that God just allows trials to make our faith stronger and to draw us closer to Him. I don't think God will give man trials for in Job's case God just allows it to test Job but it all came from satan.

Hi! levite I agree that god gives trials to test his children. Trials come to us to generate faith in us so that we can be more happy with our livesand face problems. So trials come to us to increase faith in us Thank you for starting the discussion

Sorry but you did not understand my post. I'm saying, "does God gives trials or he just "allows" it to test our faith. The word "give" is different from the word "allow."

God always gives you challenges to test how long you have for him. He always be making many trials for him to test how would you able to do it and even he would gives you many problems to test if you would still call him along all the trials he gave you but despite all he would happily gave you all the blessings you deserve.

Sorry but I don't agree that God gives us problems in life. Problems come because of many different factors. It maybe because of our own hardness of heart or stubbornness that it comes. For example, you have a heart disease and you eat more pork despite it's not good for you, and then you suffered heart attack suddenly, do you think that comes from God? It comes from your own doing not God's. Problems come from our own doing, and sometimes others, and we are just victims. it would be unfair to accuse God of giving problems and even trials to test us because that is not God's nature after all. It is really Satan who tempts man and gives problems to man for his work is to kill, steal and destroy.

Read the story of Job and you will get the idea. For your question "Does God give us trials or allows them", He does both. God wants us to be the best person we can be. It is through these tests and trials that we become stronger. Think of some of these "trials" that you have passed in your life. Have you become a stronger person because of it? God allows all of these to happen to us. Imagine a father teaching his son how to ride a bike. The father starts by holding the bike, keeping it upright as the son pedals. If he keeps holding the bike, his son will not learn. He needs to let go and allow his son to fall in order to learn balance.

I know the story of Job. But the story of Job clearly teaches that God does not give trials but He just allows Satan to test us to mold our character to be like Him and for our faith to grow? So it's not God but Satan who gives test. Will a good God give cancer to His children to test their faithfulness to Him? Think about it. It's the devil who likes to destroy us but God uses the devil's scheme for His own purpose and for our own good as what happened to our Lord Jesus.

I agree with you! Sometimes I think our comfort is more like little stabs (not that folks mean it that way). And I think you're right, supporting someone in prayer is the number one way to go.. I think it's a bit of a paradox anyway, that yes, perhaps He allows troubles for they purify us, but on the other hand I feel if we have lots of trust, we sail through the storms very safely.. I'm not sure I think of our troubles as coming from Him, or even allowed by Him, except in the sense that He lets things flow and unfold. I think we allow troubles, yes even sickness, but we don't realize that He is healing and He designed all things to be 100% healthy.. I guess I feel there's sickness and hardship but we need to have on our armor against it.. that "those who abide under the shadow of his wings", "no calamity nor plague will come nigh" our dwelling (if we keep our shield and armor in place, with prayer). Is there sorrow? Yes, but I believe, even that, He carries. He saves our loved ones, even if it is in the last moments of their life, during their last breaths. To me His shield called faith could be called trust, and like His Spirit it is a mighty covering shield. [Because he endowed thinking ability, thus choice, we all suffer some, but he suffers and lives through it all! All sufferings which ever occur..]

Trials come from the believers' environment to prove their faith (James 1:2-3) through suffering (vv. 9-11). The believers should endure the trials with all joy (v. 2) because of their love for the Lord, that they may receive the crown of life (v. 12). Suffering that come from trials to test the quality are used to test the believers faith (1 Pet. 1:7) to see whether they follow Christ in suffering for doing good (2:19-23; 3:14-18). God is the Ultimate Creator, and when He created Humans in his likeness and Image, He made us Creators as well. Every day, every hour, every minute, and second of your life you are creating the next second, minute, hour and day, of your life.In other words God does not create your problems and misery in life, you are creating them all by yourself. God is not testing you, you are experiencing your own inadequacies all by your self. Yes it would be nice if we could Blame our troubles all on God, but such is not the case! Its time to realize that self is to blame not God!
