I guess everybody knows that facebook has been blocked in China after the Urumuqi riots. Since then I have never tried to seek ways to log on. Well, facebook is not that important to me, coz most of my friends stay out of that socializing site. I especially don't like the small games and other annoying applications bugging me all day long. But whatever it is, it's really nice to come up of water to take a gasp of fresh air. and the thing is, I got some American net friends upthere, last year she told me she was in senior high, but today i found a pic showing her and her baby in her arms! Things change so quickly. But today i could not help pondering what exactly drove facebook and twitter to the top socializing networks? I means what's the difference between them and the other ones? coz so far I haven't seen quite a difference.

Hello Bill Hm, a good question! I belong to a number of social networks: twitter, myspace, facebook, and some of the lesser known ones, whose names I cannot even remember, since I almost never use them. I think the biggest three rose to the top because of their ease of use and their far reach as far as connecting with family and friends or making new friends. They offer other than the games and apps, most of which I blocked! I also use them as a means of networking for my job. Karen

I wonder if using Proxy is also hard to do there in China, because every kind of blocked websites here in my country would be easily bypassed using proxy IP and servers. I think you can do that to the blocked websites whenever you wanted to open it. I am a facebook user too. Well, I don't see the urgency of having the facebook account, since I am not active in updating status. But I do mind if it is blocked because I liked the game so much. I have lots of game account in my facebook and I can access more than one game just with one login account. I think it is fun to be able to play the game while socializing. To be honest, there is nothing different from one social networking sites with the others. The only thing which makes them different is how the site could offer their specialties to its users. Maybe from facebook, it is the applications which were very different from the others.

I am quiet new to Facebook and I like it,especially because though this site I can stay in touch with the people whom I know personally. It is a well known social networking site. But I just follow some norms, just to maintain some ambiguity as other users of this sites may cause trouble,if I disclose all my facts. The sites that I regularly use are Facebook and Orkut and the only irony is both of this sites are not paying. But its really a fun as I can share photos and other informations through messages and scraps with the acquaintances. It is very helpful in keeping contact with the people I rarely come across these days.I also like playing and chatting.Fishville is my favourite.Right now I am having 41 friends and most of them I know personally.

Well, facebook is not spoiling in China, only few are still hanging on it after it was blocked long time ago. there's another chatting software, QQ, that's a necessity for each computer in China.

you see my friend, there is a site called orkut.com..its too famous in india..more famous than facebook. now facebook has became popular because of two reasons 1)it was targeted on usa citizens 2) it allowed creativity (with quizes, apps, games and all that no other social networking site at that time was delivering) and as facebook became popular in the us, it became popular in europe too..now thats what you need to have a strong marketing base ;)

Hey, cookiebaker, thx for your baking,;)(I mean your ideas).have you found that USA culture are quite agressive towards other countries, by that i mean no offence.

lol i hope the bake was good :D and as for usa culture, i think it is "taken" as aggressive mostly in asian countries. Here in asia, we are taught to follow family ideals, and how to give ones life for our parents, kins, religion etc. Frankly, all these stuff are out dated. USA's culture is actually a way we can elevate ourselves. Not to mention that, by following usa culture, i dont mean follow the bad culture instincts even. pick up something good from every culture, mix and make it as your culture and religion. that way, no matter which part of the world you go to, you'll give them a hint that you are interested in them and their culture which will increase your popularity and youll be able to mix up with the locals, well.

the main difference between sites which leads them to their popularity is the citizens they target. facebook was targeted towards usa citizens specifically. as it became famous in usa, it slowly spread across the world and also i think facebook contains some apps that none other sites provide, thus making facebook popular among teens and adults alike

Well i dont know about you, im sorry that you did not enjoy being at facebook. I have my kids and other relatives and close friends there and i dont have a complaint whatsoever. I am a farmville addict and i play three other games there. People have different preferences in life .Nothing can satisfy everybody really.
