I cannot believe last night happened.

Last night I went to see my favorite band ever- AFI- in concert, for the first time. It was INSANE! It was the most campacted, sweatiest, intense, fun and BEST concert I have ever been to. The venue they played at was fairly small, and there was no seating- people got crazy and you pretty much had to fight to get to the front, which I did. w

I saw Rancid (you probably know of them if you like AFI.. AFI is a huge influence on a lot of bands, including Rancid I would imagine - although they've been around for the same amount of time, I do believe) - and that was totally awesome. I also saw Social Distortion, which was pretty awesome too. I didn't meet either of the guys then, but I met Jake and Jorge from the Casualties (who, no, aren't big stars, but they were pretty cool!), and I also met Lars Frederiksen at the Lars F & the B*stards concert at the warped tour a few years back. HE was a cool, down to earth fellow! I wouldn't mind hanging out with him sometime. LOL. I've heard that AFI are really good live. I love it when my favorite bands totally surprise me with being absolutely amazing performers. It's always disappointing when they're not, isn't it? But I'm glad you had a good time! I'm not a hardcore fan of AFI but it would be pretty awesome to see them live, if I can say so myself. lol.

I've seen many of my favorite bands, but none of my all-time favorites. I've seen The Aquabats, The Vandals, The S*x Pistols, Flogging Molly, and so on. Many great bands and enjoyed all of them. Closest to meeting someone of a band I really like was on the front row.:(

My first real exposure to music was fifteen years ago when my husband took me to a Pink Floyd concert. I was so enamored of them that he took me to Chicago to see them, too! In the past 15 years I've been to a lot of concerts since PF--specifically David Gilmour-- opened my eyes and ears to the joys of music and inspired me to learn to play the guitar. Since then I've seen Metallica, Ozzie, Slayer, Alice in Chains, Vinny Moore, Dream Theater and tons of other bands. I've met a lot of them but the nicest were Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Oh, and Vinny Moore--the best! I asked him for a pick and he went out to his bus to get the last one. Wait, Ted Nugent was nice, too!! He showed my son how to use a bow and arrow--my son sat on Ted Nugent's knee! And Ted gave me a pick and autographed a cassette for me.

Awwww I'm jealous. The first time I saw AFI it was at a small theater venue that basically has a flat space in the middle and then a wrap around balcony....I think their website says their max. capacity is 1500. But on this tour they played a huge local annual show, the Not So Silent Night and it was in the hockey arena at Denver University. It was still an amazing show but I really don't dig arena shows nearly as much as theater/bar shows. For one thing, there was a fence which makes it hard (or impossible in some cases) for Davey to do the Jesus Walk and since he got dragged into the pit the last time he tried it here I really wanted it to work this time. I'm also a little jealous you got to see Adam outside of the publicity scene like that.... that's awesome. But that wasn't your question.... LOL I've seen AFI and Dashboard Confessional twice (favorites numbers 2 and 3, respectively) and Kill Hannah (very very favorite) twice but my New Year's resolution this year is to see KH every time they come through CO, which is usually 4 or 5 times but since they're going to the UK/Europe this year, it'll probably only be like 2 or 3. But I'm going to their big New Heart for Christmas show in Chicago this year so that will totally make up for it

I have a hard time picking a favorite so I just favorite artists and not just one favorite. I have seen one of my favorite artists though and that was Mastodon. They are a huge band and play all over the world and on the way into the concert their bass player walked by right in front of us. It's really strange to see someone that you listen to almost every day in real life because they almost seem like gods.
