I like to keep my computer on.It takes too long when it's shut down to get started again.I wait til everything is loaded.Every so often I restart my computer. It doesn't make any difference in my electric bill, and I own a great computer that works well. How about you?Do you leave your computer on or off?

I leave my laptop on. I just shut the lid when i'm not using it and set it aside. It is actually better if you leave a pc on when you can. The only time you should shut it down completely is during a very bad eletric storm. Other then that, you could do more damage to your system constantly turning it on and off. the surge from the power switch alone causes more damage then anything.

hi java no indeed the noisy thing, I turn it off when I go to bed but leave it on all day as its a nuisance to stop and start and also my son the computer nerd says its hard on the machine, but it need to rest its innards at night. just like we need to rest ours lol. so I do not have to restart it, mine is old as the hills but new also as my son has replaced just about every thing in it and it works really great, and my monitor is modern an led samsung and big screen too sO I do not strain my eyes, its thin not clumsy and fat like the old one.

I always shut off my computer when not in use. In this way I can save elecricity bill and so that my PC can rest. If I leave my laptop on as always it can catch more dirt and dust compared when its close.

I also keep my computer on if I have to use it again in 20 to 30 minutes,as if we shut down the pc and then again start it up then iy will make not much difference in consumption of electricity. And if we close the monitor for the time being then it saves the extra electricity. So in this way I leave my PC on.

When I rest my computer rests too. I thinks the PC's performance is much more better if you let it rest.

I switch my PC on in the morning and it get swtiched off last thing at night. But my PC has an extra power save feature which means that if you don't use it for about half an hour it stores everything you were working on and had open in memory and then powers down completely rather than just going to stand-by. When you power up it remembers what you were upto and it feels like it's never been turned off. As it powers up nice and quickly it really is a useful feature.

I would like to keep my computer on during the daytime, usually I open it once I get up every morning, and leave it on till the sleep time, about 11:30 pm,I never turn it off in the daytime unless it crashed sometimes,I would restart it.As you said,it does not make an increasing electric bill.

hi java^^;; well if you use your computer every now and then, it's really better to leave it on rather than off and on and off... but in my case, i use it straight for long hours then turn it off before i start to do other stuffs. there was this time i didn't turn off my laptop because i just intended to take a nap for several minutes but ended up sleeping for more than an hour. i hoped i just turned it off instead

I turn it off when I go to sleep after leaving it on all day. It cuts down on power if I don't have it on during the night. Plus, the computer has been worked all day, I feel I need to give it a chance to cool down. Especially in those warmer months but really any time of the year. So, I always turn off my computer at night.

I prefer to keeep it on, but it's bad for your computer, so I close it at the end of the day and open it first thing in the morning. :) :P :P :P And while it doesn't make any difference, it still contributes a bit to global warming. But then, I use a mac, so it's faster to open and close you computer.

Hi Java09, personally I would shutdown my PC if I am done with my work, rather than leaving it on while I get myself busy with other tasks. You mentioned that it takes ages to load up your computer. It could probably due to the many programs starting up when the operating system (OS) starts up. Try to disable some of these programs which you seldom use. Also, maybe it's time for you to upgrade your RAM? Or maybe reinstall the OS again which will definitely improve the loading time. Anyway, if you absolutely have to keep your computer on all the time, try letting it go into Sleep or hibernation mode. It will use lesser power and the lifespan of your computer could probably be lengthened.

I used to leave my computer on 24/7. I was also too impatient to wait for it to turn on. However, after about four years of doing this, it started overheating. (Yeah, my main computer is a little old. She still works for what I need her to, though.) So, I cleaned out all the dust I could see and started turning it off at night when I went to bed. I turn it back on first thing in the morning, but I try to busy myself while it is powering on. I make myself some coffee or brush my teeth or something so it doesn't seem like it takes so long.

even computers, they need to have rest... but make sure you have a good ventilation in your computer because when you let your computer turned on all throughout, it may over heat.
