Have you ever witnessed someone's death?

I had just witnessed an old woman getting hit by a bus and I very much doubt she will survive it. I was standing right there and could not do a single thing to stop it. I was about to cross the road when suddenly I saw a woman trying to cross the road from the opposite side. She was in a hurry or something because she did not stop for the lights to become red. There was probably a small brick or stone or something on the road and she tripped over it and fell down on the road. Before any of us could react, a speedy bus ran over her body. I saw her blood soaked body a second later and she was absolutely still. The traffic police did put her on a taxi and took her to a hospital, but most people were convinced that she would not survive, probably she was dead by then. It was a terrible experience and has left me shaken. I could not share it with my mother because she is very emotional and shaky. So, I shared it with you guys. We hear about road accidents all the time, but to witness one in front of one's eyes is terrible.

You poor thing! What a dumb lady to take such a chance. Was she already running for her life or what? I wonder.I bet it was a terrible experience. I was at my mom's bedside when she passed away. Was in a semi-coma state and was dying of cancer. I was very hard. I just set there after holding her hand as she quit breathing as if I either thought she would start breathing again or was in shock.

It was sad. But I had the help from wonderful hospis nurses. they had explained to me ahead of time that it wouldn't be long and that I should let her know it was okay to go. Alot of people when they are getting ready to pass hold on because they think their families want them to. They must know that it is okay.

That is quite a different approach. But still holding the hand of a dear one when that person is dying is a really sad moment. I would not be able to sit still, if I had to do something like that. I am pretty strong, but to see someone dying while I am holding that person is not something I can do. I will surely faint.

That is so sad. To see your mother die while holding her hand is a very sad experience. But it is nice that you were the one holding the hand of your mother. That would have been very satisfying for her, although maybe she could not express it. I was also shocked when I saw her getting hit. We just cannot move or do anything when we are in shock. It is like we go into a coma or something.

Hey sagnik, what a terrible thing to witness. This is something that could stay with you for a very long tims. I saw a man electrocuted, and can still see him being thrown from his ladder. I hope you can erase this terrible memory.

It really is terrible. We talk about accidents and things like that. We watch movies with so much violence in it but when you witness something like that, it is hard to keep yourself steady. I wish I had never seen that kind of a thing. I cannot think of anything right now. The only thing that comes to my head is the bloody body. Seeing a man getting electrocuted is quite a terrible thing to see. I hope you can erase that memory and so I wish I could mine.

Only time will erase the mempry. We have to move on, but it will be a while before the memory eventually fades.

i have, but not from accidents-critical illnesses. i saw a few that came mighty close tho. this one car came speeding around the corner when i was walking down the street dragging a fallen off muffler-it was really loud.it sparked and caught a gas leak and within seconds the back of the car was on fire. i ran in a store and told them to call emergency, and when i came back out he seemed to be stuck in the burning car-i had a knife on me but before i got to the car he got loose and not too soon. the most shocking thing was his passenger got free before him and i saw her bail and run away, just leaving him.i still can't believe i saw that.she didn't even try to help.i sure hope he dumped her after that!

That is too selfish ...I also hope the same thing after hearing this from you. How can she run away without trying to help her partner? Some people are so selfish, they are only concerned about themselves.

Wow how unfortunate for you to witness something like that. My story isn't as bad. one of my close friends grandmother cold blue in the hospital ICU and was there to see 7 nurses and doctors try to bring her back to life, that was a really sad moment she was only 411 and maybe 100 pounds... My mother on the other hand in 1969 saw a plan crash she told me when the plan crashed she could see the plain pilot trying to break the window and could hear him and the other passengers screaming help, and their voices slowly faded away. That effected her a great deal to this day she is unable to ride airplanes

Oh. I just could not understand what you were trying to say. I first thought it was the age, but then your grandmother cannot be 41 or 11... I just could not figure it out until now.

411? I think that is a typing mistake. That must have been terrible experiences for you. These kinds of experiences shake us from the inside and changes us as a person. Now I cannot think of anything else. It has been almost a day and I cannot do anything properly. In the case of your mother as well, it changed her. I have not yet been to the airport let alone riding a plane, but I wish to do it someday. I really do not want to think of what your mother saw. I would be scared as hell.

I have never witnessed a fatal accident or other violent deaths but I was with my father and now work on a hospital ward so have seen a few people die and dealt with several after the event. I am not surprised that you are so shaken up and need to share your feelings about what you witnessed. I hope that you will be able to deal with this but, if it troubles you for a long time, please get some professional help.Take care.

I've witnessed people fall from 11th floor because of improved air-conditioning in the apartment, and can not be helped because his brain had been shattered. Dangerous, because these people were workers from AC company and not using the belt.

You mean to ask if I’ve witnessed an accident? No, I’ve never witnessed such gory scenes and I don’t think I’d be up to it if I ever come across such a pathetic incident on the road. On the net we all get so many pix everyday…in one such mail, I’d seen a couple of pixes of an accident victim shot from very close range…OMG it was horrible to say the least…I could not eat my lunch properly and was feeling quite sick inside. So you can very well imagine my condition if I actually see such a scene before me

hi, wow!!! you are so in detail about this... and you made me feel like I was there with you or something. well, I never witness one at all but I used to went to see my English Teacher die the next day after someone robbed and shot him. I still remember his face and I still feel pity for him... And last time, when I was driving a car then there was an accident right in front of me... I just saw a woman flew out of the car and laid down... that was it... I dont want to see people die cuz it will keep in my mind

Thank you for the response. I am sorry, I made you feel that way. I just had to share this with somebody. But then I do not want to think of that moment anymore, but this discussion is taking a toll on me. I wish I had not started it.

That is just horrible. Sorry you had to witness it. I have seen 2 people die, One was too horrible for me to get into. I helped take care of my grandmother when she had terminal cancer. I was in the room when she passed.

Seeing something like this is definitely very traumatizing to an individual regardless of whether or not the accident victim survives. It was a little under a year and a half ago that my mother and I were going to Cincinnati to see a concert when we witnessed a horrendous motorcycle accident. The boy that was riding the motorcycle clipped the back of a car in front of him and flew from the bike. His bike ended up about 15 yards down the highway, his shoes and his helmet ended up about 20-25 feet behind him. His clothes were destroyed. He would have been killed if he had not been wearing a helmet. He did survive with a concussion and other injuries, but still, it is the worst thing I have ever seen.

OMG, that does sound horrible. I have seen videos of that kind on the internet, but your story sounds much more terrifying than those videos. Even with his helmet, it is almost a miracle that he survived.

I witnessed a person dying. (At least I think he did) I was at the Emergency Room waiting to be seen. There was an older man in a wheel chair and he was there with another older woman. (maybe his wife) He seemed like he was OK. He was looking at the TV and everything...next thing I know he either starts having a heart attack or stroke and lost control of his bodily functions and peed on himself. The lady that was with him starting calling out for help and staff ran to get him. I dont really know what the outcome was but I always heard that when you die you lose control of your body functions. It was pretty scary though because he was right there in front of me and he was waiting to be seen. It's been almost a year but it still feels like yesterday. You just dont realize how precious life is until you witness something like that.

Well, maybe that is one of the person's problems. Maybe he did not die. Just because he peed does not mean that he had a heart attack or something. And, even it did, still maybe it was not a very big one and he survived. We can only hope that he survived. Really, we just do not stop to think of how precious life is. This kind of experiences make us realize that life is very precious. Thank you for the response.
