I really love to read a good book and watch movies, though both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Reading a books influence me in such a way that I could still go back to recall the pages where I last read or stop to continue reading on the next time I am not busy. While, I am also a visual person and love watching movies where the character from the books comes to life, including the themes, the storyline, even some of the dialogue. The only downsides, one could appreciate more the stories in the book with a complete details and could visualize more in the mind with a greater impact,as one analyze its contents while in a movies, some of the details is not complete and captured in a short span of time. How about you, Which can influence you more, reading book or watching movies? kindly shares your thoughts. Thanks. 1-23-10

hi hazelrose, yeah, mostly are depending on the contents on how the writer executed her story content, plot and other elements which captivate her reader imagination while in movies they are also a learning attraction since the eyes could not only appreciate its stories, but the ears could listen as well making the stories more lifelike and one could easily remember its as the summary of some greatest novels just come to the large screen as a summary of the books. thanks.

Both are good ways of influencing people. But I don't think they have a long term effect on us.Let it be movie or a book they don't play a big role in my life.I just read or watch them for time pass and never got influence by them.Even if they influence me I don't take them seriously.I love the creativity side in those things.

hi singuri, It is better to take them as an inspiration but the deciding factor in the end is still yourself and maube they have influence on the mind as they gives lot of ideas and information then inspire imagination and spark creativity. Nevertheless they are only here to make the people be entertain and at the same time improve knowledge of the stories which being convey in the messages.

Both are good but I beleive books are time consuming but gives you more information while on the other hand movies only consume time and cant be informative.

Both books and movies influence me to a certain extent, but I would say books have a bigger influence on me. I read extensively, ever since I was still schooling. The books I read include autobiographies, various schools of thoughts, for example, Capitalism and Marxism, philosophy, psychology, and religion. Action pictures or movies may not be able to fully convey the information, concept, and ideas to the audiences.

hi myzire, yeah, books have been introduce to us even at a younger age when your not yet formally study in schools. little children have develop interest in books at a young age when their parents give them their first nursery books and all books with fairytales stories with beautiful pictures. Then, at a formal schools most students have their own textbooks which are very influential to the mind. Unlike movies which is also have influence but it is limited since the story is short and limited by time even it is an excerpt from book the messages it convey is very short and hence the method of understanding could not surpass the imagination one could get in reading the complete novel which are the sources of the movies version.

hi hannananble, Yeah, most movies are based form the inspired mind of the book writer and script writer who collaborate to make the movies full of imaginative, creative and magical stories which come alive on the big screen. So one way of another they both exist with correlation to each other. thanks

Movies and books are two different modes of fiction and non-fiction. I am more of a movie person, I like watching movies which give a insight to the imagination. Most movies are based on books. But reading a book gives me the chance to imagine the story. Both are fun and both can influence you.

hi fireice, They are both good influences and neither of the two they are co-align with each other books is the original sources but when it comes to visualization the winner surely is the movies but in terms of substances it is the book which is the champion. thanks

I think i'm someone, whom can be influenced more via vision, as compared to reading.. haha =D As reading is kinda boring, and everything is make up of letters, looking the same to me.. hehe ^_^ But when it comes to watching something moving, the anticipation is there, and the action will bring me thru the whole process.. IT's more like a 'hands-on' experience, whereby i'm able to absorb the information faster too.. hehe

Yeah, the likeness really depend on every person since you mention you are visual which is very true to most men like the way they see a pretty girl by their physical look first before they get to know what the inside so it is like compare to reading a book which say you could not judge a book by its cover. Whereas you like to believe in everything you see, hear or anything that have movement which is very true it is more attractive and not boring to see but it lasting effects easily disappear with a short exposure except if you already know the real story behind every movie based on the novel are sometimes done inaccurately from what is written on the book such as in the Lord of the ring, it is not a complete story which every bookworm when it is compare some thoughts is lost from the interpretation.

i would say reading books. but either one does have an impact on me especially if its a true story about someone that accomplished something. that kind of true story always makes you feel like you can do whatever yourself.

I think both can be effective for me. Movies and Books are two different forms of art, and one is not better than another. I for one find that I have most been effected by books in my life, but know this is not true for everyone, and also can point out many movies which have effected how I view and interact in this world.

hi darun, It really depend on individual perception on how they see things which is of no comparison since both have good contributors in the field of movie and in show business. Both are good medium of entertainment and of learning.

Of course it depends on the story and both a movie and a book can have a long lasting effect. Generally, for me, books are more profound with details and description of the characters. A book can introduce you to a facet of a protagonist’s personality that cannot be adequately depicted on film. There is something more intimate about a good written story and at the end; you can feel that you know the characters on a more personal level. With a book you can go back and read again the parts that had more meaning or like I do sometimes, you can read the whole thing over again although I suppose you can do that with a movie too...

hi paula, That very true since most of the movies mention their sources are primarily taken from the books and lots are just changes by the script writer minimizing the time so those book fanatics often criticize the concluding film making since they are not satisfy with the outcomes of the movies if they suppose to based on the books the real summary is cut of so if you really like to fully understand the movie version one need to have read first the book in order to appreciate the real stories behind the movies.

i think both book and movies can influence me as long as i'm constantly reminded of the morals in them through repetitive exposures. as for others, i think movies can influence more since not all humans love to read.
• Philippines

hi ritchelle, I think the same way since some are really feel bored reading long novel which is highly opposite of the bookworms who like to read a lot starting from the first chapter until the end of the books so when movie version of the books is made many of the fans is disappointed with the result.

I also love reading, and with regards to novels made into movies, i would say that the novel is better because the story is more vivid and everything is detailed. There are lots of novels already made into movies but i am always satisfied with the presentation in the book.

hi triplejazz, That very true books have more stories to tell and it is not cut short of like the things which happen in a movies and in real life it is more convenient to carry it whatever you go unlike in movies once its popularity decrease and so is the avid fans.

i think that watching movie influence more as graphic and picture is more easily absorbed into our brain cells campared to words.

hi kent, Yes since most are visual they are attracted to movies as some people are not fond of reading so definitely they would choose movies over than books except if one is a bookworm they give values to other learning not only with books but also learn to divert their attention in other activity as well.

Generally the movie has a more fast effect for a person than a book. The book is slowly and silent, but the person that reads a book in the long time remembers, generally movie-person doesn't.

hi amanca, That very true since most are visual and the movies is the fast way to understand the summary of a story based on books it is only shorten but in real lives even the simple things being establish as a very interesting stories which been pass in the new generation comes from the past. thanks

hmmmmmm.... i love them both so much. but i would have to say books. books are the one thing that i love most. if my house was on fire i would grab the pictures of my kids, and my most favorite books. all other things could burn. books are so important to me and i think to the world. they can change your life.

hi 34, Yeah, books inspired it talks about anything and it have to do with imagination. it is also the first educational tools which most parents introduce to their children during the younger years. Books is the sources of many movies with the author mind so strong many wonder how they did it but they are simply good in putting their writing which could not be stolen since they enrich knowledge..

I think the average person is influenced by more a movie than a book. Movies are quicker to generate a response since we see the action with our eyes and our minds.
• Philippines
27 Feb 10
hi sender, Yeah, since most of the time people are more of the visual type and hey find it boring to indulge in reading books unless one have patience to sit down and read whatever is the content of the books. Since by reading one need to have understanding of the content or the things which is written by the author without any graphic representation but in movies one could seen it without having to imagine since it is already presented in a visualize manner.

depending on the kind of books and movies. i enjoy reading during quiet times, mostly i read fantasy and romance novel. while i also enjoy watching movies especially those fantasy and romantic based movies excerpt from book. i imagine all the character and adore those star who play the roles of the leading people who are very famous in the story book. with added moving and good sounds they both look good.

i love watching movies especially drama and romance but at the same time, i am a bookworm. i have read more than two hundred books and counting. in my case, books influence me more than movies. yeah, movies sometimes makes me cry but if i read a book, i can savor each word and i can understand it easily.

hi malou, Movies tell a story in a fast way they are more attractive because of graphics and the images in the book comes in a real lifelike form but as a whole the one which is a complete substances is the book itself since it is where the original ideas and where the movies are inspire from its books sources.

I think movies influence more than books. Now you see, books dont give you the type of "feeling" that the movies offers. And on top of that, video and audio bring life to movies.Movies offer us to juggle between different kind of complext emotions. you can literally put yourself in the shoes of the persons acting in the movie and see the whole stuff from their view. This is quite difficult when it comes to books. I'll say books are for those who have an imagination that is quite out-of-the-world

hi cookiebaker, That very true and movies is more appealing since it is visualize while books appeal only to those bookworm and lover of long novels. While in movie even those illiterate could relate since they heard the sounds and understand languages whch very hard to do if their is no movies, The tutorial videos even for children would be difficult without videos since not all appreciate books.
