Do you feel sorry for homeless people?

In many countries in the world there are homeless people. They live in cardboard boxes on the streets. They might be able to go to a soup kitchen if they live in a country like the USA. They could spend some time in a hostel for the homeless if they live in the UK. They might beg if they are able to do that. In my home country homeless people are able to sell a magazine called The Big Issue. I think that is a wonderful idea. Lots of homeless people have a dog and then they can't take their dog to the hostel for the homeless people. What do you think of homeless people? Do you feel sorry for them?

I feel like life has let them down some how. I could have been homeless 2 or 3 times in years past, but I feel like God provided for me. That is just the way I believe. So, I can see how hard it can be on them. At our church we try to provide some help with what we have. Have a good day.

I was taught that we are all equal in God's eyes. What I don't understand is people who think they are special to God because they believe he saved them at some time. What makes some people better than others in God's eyes? Why would he save some people and not others...that just does not sit right with me.

I think it is because some people call on him and trust him, while others turn their back on him. When I was in trouble I called on him, and he helped me. I do not always understand things, but I do know he was there for me.

I don't think feeling sorry for anyone does them much good. Our area just created a place for homeless families to go, but not for homeless single people. If you're homeless and single, you need to find a way to get to Vermont, live with a relatives, or go downstate. I'm not happy that our area isn't helping single people who are homeless very well. If they meet certain conditions, they can get a single room apartment paid for, it they're very lucky, but rooms are about $500 a month and they only want to pay $300. I read a story one time about a homeless man that started collecting bottles. He collected some and was able to get a light lunch. Then he collected more and was able to get a small cart where he could collect more. Then he was able to get enough for a couple of meals. Then he saved up and got a bicycle and was able to get three meals and save up some money. Eventually, he got a bigger cart and more bottles and after a while, he was able to rent an appartment. I knew a teacher and her husband who was also a teacher, they were living in public woods (State/Federal hiking kinds of lands). They and their two kids were living in a station wagon. They were homeless. Eventually she got a state job and so did she. They now are living great and their kids have gone through college and are living great. We need to help all homeless people find a way to earn a living or at least find a lasting way to not be homeless. The old saying," Give a person a fish, you feed that person for a meal. Teach the person to fish, you've fed the person for a lifetime." makes sense to me. I don't feel sorry for them; I feel discusted that we as different peoples haven't found ways to have no homeless people.

So, anyway, if this magazine thing works in your country, I won't be discusted for your country or at least your area any more. I think helping people help themselves is the way to go and that sounds like what your area is trying to do. I hope the magazine sales and homeless people are very successful.

When I see a homeless person, what comes to mind is "There but for the grace of God go I". All of us, under the right circumstance, can have this happen to us. Deep in debt and lose your job, cannot pay your mortgage so you lose your house. Most of us are but a few paychecks away from this. If you do not believe that you better check your finances a little closer. For every homeless person there is a story. Makes no difference how they got there. It has nothing to do with how worthless they may be or how addicted they may be. It all starts from something else. While some are forced into it via circumstance beyond their control others just do not have the life skills to make it in todays world. Regardless of the reason they are there we all need to do all we can to help them. Even if you can help through your church by donating your time or money. If you have old but usable clothes or shoes they should be donated to help the poor and homeless. To be our neighbor's keeper is truly a noble cause.

My heart bleeds whenever I see people on the street nowhere to sleep but on a piece of cardboard laid on a dirty side walks. I blame the government for it. A good government can solve this kind of problem if only they have political will and use the people's taxes well. If there is no corruption in government, no country will be confronted with poverty.

Poverty could happen to everyone, so we must thank to God if we have somethingt better than unlucky people. But , we should take efforts to make a better living for poor people. We support the entrepeneur mindset, NOT to be employees all the rest of our life.

Hi Prambanan, Yes, we should thank God for our blessings. But NO, there's no such thing as luck. We are the "captain of our souls and the navigators of our destiny." If the homeless is sick, unable to work and has no relative to help him, then I feel sorry for him. But if he looks strong and healthy, why not look for a job or do something to support himself. If he has the will to better himself, he'll find a way.

Hi fellow my lotters, Yes i do feel bad when i see homeless people in the street. But more than feeling sorry, I feel compassion for these people. Come to think of it it could have been me or you who would be in that position. In my country there are no hostels or homes for these people. They live on the streets and children beg for food. Usually these homeless people were not able to go to school or have been laid off from work.. there are a number of reasons. It's usually hard for them to to look for jobs. However, if one keeps on blaming his circumstances rather directs his attention to solving his problem one would remain the way he is, battered, broken, dispirited, poor and homeless. Some notable people in the world today came from extreme poverty like the notable boxer Manny Pacquiao who is now a multi millionaire. The lead singer in the band Journey Ariel Pineda used to be a homeless kid. These two people are examples that there is hope out there and God has placed in everyone talents that would make us stand before kings and queens when properly developed. It's not the end of the road if you are homeless, if you want something you never had before then do something you have never done before!

well there are a lot of homeless people as well... the truth is that there are too many of them... and you get to see them all the time without having their lives improved. most of the times, you feel sorry for them, pity them... but the emotion is that why they are not doing anything for their lives? why do they allow themselves to suffer like that and not work for the betterment of their lives..

I always feel sorry for the homeless people. I know that life is not fair and even though I am able to live under a roof and can afford to buy a house, there are a lot of unfortunate people in the world. Fate makes people forced to live the way they live. I used to believe that if we work hard we are able to achieve anything we want, but now I understand that everything we do has something in relation to fate and luck as well. If I have a lot of money like Oprah, I will definitely help the poor. It is very sad to see them sleep in cardboard boxes. I pray that the government will help these poor people and God to have mercy on all of us.

Hi max, homelessness is one of the great tragedies of our time. Selling a special magazine is something they can do in Australia also. Some people do prefer this way of life, but the majority are forced into this situation, and it's very sad.

Yes, I feel sorry for them because i feel blessed to have a home of my own, while them they don't have shelter. it is so difficult if you don't have home you can catch different illness and its cold to be staying outside during the night. i don't know why they don't have homes and can a government help them, so that they can have a temporary shelter. it is not safe to sleep on the street, what if you are sleeping nd you are hit by a car by accident. You can be killed. I hope the problems of the homeless be solved right away sothre are no homeless people we see on the street. Here in my place I saw authorities wants to save them but they are the one who refuse. Sometimes it is so hard to help them because some are full of pride.

I feel sorry for them, also! It is really sad, when people don't have a place to go! When people get really down and out; they feel like their life is hopeless. In some countries, there aren't any disability checks, welfare checks, food stamps, unemployment checks, or any other sources of funding! In some countries children are forced to do unforeseen things! Some people in the U.S. people have a cardboard signs and they don't want food or a place to live. All that they want is money and they make more than you and I.

I really feel for homeless people. Shelter and The Salvations Army's homeless activities are the two charities that I support regularly. And I do buy the Big Issue. Lots of people look down on the homeless, feeling it's probably their own fault that they are that way. Yes, some of them will have made mistakes, but it's really hard to get out of the homeless category once you get there. We all make mistakes, but they don't always lead us to such a hopeless situation. I don't blame them for wanting to have dogs that will love them unconditionally.

I know that there are people that are homeless for all kinds of different reasons and that is why I do feel sorry for some of them. Now, there are also homeless people that you can tell have substance abuse problems and those type of homeless people I don't so much feel sorry for. The homeless people that I do feel sorry for are all of the people that have lost their jobs, cars, and homes due to this down economy. I would do everything that I possibly could to help these people.

No, I don't feel sorry for them. It's a choice they make. There is no need for people in developed countries to be homeless. Everyone has the same opportunity for a good education and training. Everyone can get government assistance in times of need. People choose not to take the opportunities presented to them. Rather than get a job they choose to be lazy. Rather than pay rent and bills they choose to smoke and drink and waste their money. Even in hard times there is help available but many choose not to take it. It probably means a bit of hardship so that's a no-no. When their luck runs out they choose to feel sorry for themselves and whine than to do what needs to be done. Then they breed and teach their kids the same lifestyle. I don't feel sorry for them at all. I despise people who choose to do nothing for themselves and continuously expect others to help them.

I do feel sorry for them but totally believe that if they are in a circumstance that makes them homeless and they don't like the situation, there is a way out of being homeless. When someone has lived out on the streets for a very long time, they have just become accustomed to the lifestyle and must like it.

I do feel sorry for the homeless just because I know I would never want to live that way. I always wonder what their story is, why are they in that situation? Why do they not do anything to get out of that situation. For instance, instead of begging for food or money why not spend that time and energy to try and get a job. I'm sure it is probably really hard for them too. It's hard for any of us any more, but do they even try? Why would they rather live on the streets than to better themselves? Where are their family members? I would never let one of my family members live on the street! I would let them live with me until they get back on their feet. And I know they would because I wouldn't let them just sit there all day long and do nothing. I wouldn't let them drink away every cent they get. I wish I could learn homeless peoples story and try to help them, but I dont even have the finances to help myself. If I could get them a job I would. I would give them a seed and hope they could make a garden out of it.

I don't say sorry for them because that is life. I am very much pity for those people but I don't have nothing to do help them. I want to help people if I have more in life. This is my dreams before to help people out of miserable life but until today that dreams is not being carried on. I am pity to myself also because I can't help those people... If I will become a millionaire. I'm sure that a half of my wealth go to the hopeless people and bring back their hope and live with a good living that they can see even a little light in their dreams...

Yes, it is heartbreaking to see people that have to sleep on the dirty roads, and I will always donate some of my spare change so that they can atleast have something to eat, or something warm to drink on the cold nights. However there are some people in the town nearby that are fake homeless people. They make their living off pretending to be homeless. They put on some pretty torn up and scruffy looking clothes, mess their hair up a bit and just sit in town a few hours with a cup, and then at the end of the day go back home to their nice big house. Now I find this truely disgusting, exploiting the situation like that! The money that is donated to them, is not going to the genuine homeless people who don't have money to eat and drink, this is truely disgusting! Lee.

Hiya maximax, Feel sorry for them yes, but Spain is plagued with scams so much now that ordinary homeless People are the ones who are really being hurt. Unless you have your Social Security right up to date you are going to have one very hard time here depending on the local Government of course. Some will be a bit more generous than others and others not at all. However that does not imply the Spanish People themselves as they will do all they can to help other People if they can. They usually have non profit organizations and I mean non profit in which volunteers work on a Rota and take part in helping these People back on their feet.
