Adding Hours!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife and two grandsons are going to Singapore, from Houston, Texas, on the 9th of February. This week they received a request that they be at the airport THREE AND A HALF hours prior to the time of departure so they will have enough time for security clearance! Doubling the time in the airport before boarding is really aggravating.

And at the same time they don't really want people hanging around at the gates for hourse before, so they'll probably do their best to keep them in the queue for at least 2 hours. Weird. I usually show up at the airport here 1 hour before, and 2 hours before when I'm travelling back, at least if the airport is international.

supposedly it is taking longer to do the more detailed scrutiny of each passenger!

That sounds like a full body search of each person, a bit worrying really.

When security checks are taking a long time passengers have to arrive many hours before their flight. I visited Israel and almost missed my flight due to all the security checks. I waited in a long line of people for a personal interview and then I was taken away to a private interview. They went through all my baggage in fine detail. They let me go when they found out I was innocent. Three and a half hours wasn't enough time for me in Israel. Two hours is the normal time. On my last trip my flight from London to Cape Town was delayed for five hours due to fog. Airports can be boring places when waiting for many hours. I wish your wife and grandson a lovely trip to wonderful Singapore.

It has changed now to 3 and a half hours? Wow, that's insane. I am usually told to go 2 hours beforehand, but I always end up having too much free time in the airport because of doing so.

I am with you, two hours was more than enough time, this is really irritating!
