What do you do!? I know this woman who has a name that means something funny in my language. I don't mean to make fun of her in anyway at all but I can't help but laugh when I call her. It is so rude of me to do that and she has no idea. Still in my attempts to not laugh when I speak with her, I avoid using her name at all. I can't seem to control myself and I feel absolutely childish about it but what should I do!?

We had something similar to that in high school. There was a girl in our school who was an immigrant. Her name was Phoc, which sounded very similar to another 4 letter word. I would always try to not say it, or I would giggle.

Oh my that's even harder. And in school! I bet that poor girl had a hard time with all the students making fun. I suppose the best approach is not to say their name at all.

I am sure the woman realises that people will find her name funny and is probably used to it. I think I would also do my best not to say her name when talking to her because I wouldn't want to upset her. If I knew her well, I would probably explain that I found it difficult.

That's the problem. I don't know her that well and we only speak when we run into each other. She's not exactly a friend but an acquaintance. So it's hard to tell her what her name means I'm afraid she might take offence.
