I Like The Concept Of Yahoo Answers

And of course, myLot too. I dabble in between Yahoo Answers and myLot and I find both of these sites really engaging, so to speak. It challenges some of my thinking mind, for sure. The only differences are that you don't get paid in Yahoo Answers like you do in myLot and another thing is that in Yahoo Answers, you get replies from unknown users and their answers can be interesting as well as off-topic at times. But I like both of these sites currently. Very much indeed. Do you think it will draw more attention to Yahoo Answers if they put a revenue sharing program or some sort; like Yahoo ads or something. Or you prefer Yahoo Answers as they are now, and use them interchangeably like I do with myLot? What say you?

Good question! I used to use Yahoo Answers a lot until my account got banned. I was banned for promoting mylot.. lol... well i posted my ref link and i didnt know you weren't allowed to so they banned me and i email saying sorry, i didnt know.. and all they told me was "tough luck buddy, make a new account".. i was pissed cuz i was at like level three and was competing with my cousin! lol.. well anyway on mylot i posted my ref link (not knowing) and all they did was delete the post.. not my account! I love myLot more than Yahoo Answers because they realise mistakes could happen and also pay people for posting..

They really said that? . I'm sorry about that; but it's true; they don't allow referral links there. In fact, most spaces right now on the internet do not allow referral links, unless it is a linking share type of sites like Twitter and etc. Level 3? Awesome. I've not even reached there yet. It is addictive, just like myLot. Here, our discussions get deleted, instead of account..you are right.. Awesome, isn't it. So, are you going to create a new account in Yahoo Answers? I guess not??

Yah! lol.. i was like uber pissed off! But being banned can be a good thing i guess, it brought me more towards myLot. I think if they didnt ban me i wouldnt have been as involved with this community.. I ? myLot (:

That someone has the same sentiments as me? Heeehee, awesome. It's actually a pretty good site, minus some crappy answers some have given. If only they pay, it will be more awesome. Congrats on your new job, bro.. and I'm sticking to myLot the more too.

I couldn't agree with you more. i get a lot of great information here on Mylot, and the payments are wonderful. However, on Yahoo answers, the people are a lit better versed in the English language. There are a lot of fantastic English speaking people here on MyLot (you are one of them!!!) but there are plenty on here who can hardly be understood, whereas on Yahoo Answers everyone I have encountered so far has spoken near-perfect English.

Thanks so2x much for your compliment... I really appreciate it. You are a very warm person yourself and very much friendly and not having any airs about you. You make others feel welcomed, given your time and activity period in myLot. Awesome.. With that being said, I think I have to agree. There was one time I asked about a question on a particular subject, and one user, with a perfect English, gave me a long, summarized answer, mixed up with some technical terms too. I was in awe.

I have seen many good questions asked on Yahoo Answers, but some of the answers are pretty lame. In fact, it is REALLY annoying when you are Googling up information and you find that someone else has posted a similar question to the one you have there on Yahoo Answers, and you go there only to find no response or some idiotic response. So if there were some way to keep the questions out of the search engines until after they have been properly answered that might help. Otherwise it is almost like spam. The myLot questions do not usually show up and confuse everyone. Mostly they just come up if "myLot" is included among the search terms.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I see really good, genuine questions too, but when reading the answers, truly disappointing. But there are those high rank level users, and their answers are very detailed, and they provide links too. myLot discussions are sometimes on search engines and you are right; sometimes not. I think it depends on the keyword tags that the users have slotted. Good answer, drannhh, I like that.

It might. I think it might invite more spammers trying to post their referral links over and over again. Better no revenue, huh?

I actually came from Yahoo Answers before myLot! I got hooked on it a couple years ago. I made it to top contributor and top answerer in my particular category! There are no monetary earnings, like you mentioned, but you try to climb up the status ladder and that was motivating for me for a long while - and I made it! And til this day, I am still the top answerer of my category - and I haven't been on it for almost a year now!! The reason why I left? As a top answerer you get targeted. Trolls are everywhere giving thumbs downs. People cheat - yes, it's possible to do so there, especially in voting. Some of the guidelines are kind of gray . . . like we're not supposed to "chat" there . . . well, where exactly do you draw the line? People don't necessarily pick the best answer . . . not that I care about the points . . . but the information is on search engines . . . which means there is a lot of misinformation floating around in cyberspace. After I got sick of the Yahoo Answers part, I hung out on the Suggestion Board. That was pretty fun as there are regulars there too! I like myLot in that you can discuss freely in your writing style (there really aren't any gray areas in the rules). Plus you get the earnings. People seem to be a lot nicer here too. I would go back to Yahoo Answers because I can talk about my category interest over there - it's not very popular here. But I enjoy spending my time with you all here!

Oh yah, I had loads of fun on Yahoo Answers . . . I was hooked just like I am now with myLot! Well, my particular category was low traffic . . . I would think most of the population would hardly go there, so it was fairly easy to go up the leaderboards there. Some categories had pages and pages of questions, but in my category there would be 2 at the most. I answered nearly every single question and I was trusted (I knew my stuff - so no monkeying around). I had my fun there, but grew out of it, I suppose. And I'm glad I found myLot though. Yah, the people are nicer here. I think we can talk like human beings here, so that helps (on Yahoo Answers you just have to state your facts - no chatting allowed).

Hi Zed! I was not even aware of Yahoo Answers before I joined myLot. I had a look and have not been back to it. The only time I go there is when I happen to find a discussion on here has been plagiarised from there. I joined another similar question and answer site recently which pays for your contributions and that looks promising though it has strict rules. I have sent you a PM so that you can see it too. However nothing will take the place of myLot for me. I have so many friends here and it is the only place that I know where we can discuss and build friendships too

I like Yahoo answers too. In fact I've been learning from it. There are issues that are given good answers through Yahoo answers. I bet this could be more exciting and popular if they will implement your suggestion to put a revenue sharing program. I hope it will happen in the near future!

It will be great, right.. One thing about the site that I like is the fast server response or something. It takes not that long for one page to load to the other and the never ending questions that are in there, LOL..except for the spammers and rude commentators, I love the website too. Hopefully there's a revenue sharing for all soon; we can only hope.

I have never used Yahoo Answers but I know a lot of people who say they do and it doesn’t sound like a bad site. I guess one of the disadvantages is that no one gets paid there; certainly that is not a reason why you can’t enjoy the site anyway. I would be on MyLot if they didn’t pay; it’s just really satisfying to earn a bit if pocket money though.

Thanks, Paula. I have the same thought like you as well. I'd still be in mylot even if it doesn't pay at all. It will be great to get paid by both.. if there's such a thing as revenue sharing in Y.Answers, LOL. Anyway, I think mylot is the mostly unique program with this earnings scheme.

only one thing i don't like about yahoo answers is that the discussions update quite quickly and are pushed behind and so when it comes down in the list it doesn't get as many responses as the ones above it, well even if they start a revenue sharing program i would only come to this place i don't get much to mylot anyway..

Hello there my sweet friend. Thanks for that..although I think my idea rocks, I don't think Y.Answers would do that anytime soon, or perhaps not at all. LOL... without giving a revenue, it's already so popular..but one can always dream.. Have a nice day and a great weekend too, sweets.

I like to visit Yahoo answers sometimes as I find it a very helpful resource (when it isn't being infested by 12-year-olds and trolls). I think Yahoo Answers would benefit from what you mentioned in your original post zed_k4, and am surprised they have done nothing like this yet.

Thank you for your answer there, MrKennedy. I think you are right...it's actually on one hand, when I think about it..without revenue there are spammers, and if they start to give out revenue, there can tend to be more of such. But at the same time, they should have done it already. Hmmmmp..maybe their traffic is rising each time, so they don't see a need for it. You are right..I've seen some really childish spammers in there and made me turned off pretty much.

Why should YA give revenue when they are so successful getting people to contribute answers without paying them anything? But now that there are places like Mylot, people may just wise up and put their answers on a site that pays them something real, instead of just 'moving them up to the next level' which is meaningless. If there's enough competition, YA may have to wise up and start paying.

I like Yahoo! Answers to stay as it is because the answers that have been given there have good quality, at least better than MyLot, because to be frank, sometimes in MyLot the answers are not quite relevant (I mean the one that answers has no knowledge on the topic, some of them just concern about money, that's all). My apology if this offending some people. Have a good day

Yea I too like Yahoo Answers as much as I like Mylot. In Yahoo Answers all the replies given are specific and much honest, But here In Mylot everyone is replying for commercial and earning purpose. thus the replies are much bigger and lengthy. The idea you provided for yahoo answers to put revenue sharing program like Mylot is really good, it can be more interesting. But the other side of the coin is also there. If Yahoo Answers starts revenue sharing program then yahoo answers will become solely for commercial and for earning purpose. The honesty, truth will diminish from it. The users will not reply truly and honestly. In my opinion Yahoo Answers is best what it is now.

I agree with you. I have been asking about gaming questions before, and I was answered pretty well. There are some nonsensical answers too, but the creme of the top is always there.. You've got a point there. But sometimes, with revenue being put, more answers can be developed as well and some people are motivated by revenue sharing programs and stuff. But your point is valid too; it makes answering in Yahoo Answers a joy. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoy coming to mylot, but i can't stand YA and i stopped going there. The whole set up there, in my opinion, seems to cater to the somewhat 'immature.' They set up this little 'game' where you rise in 'levels' the more questions you answer. What do you get for rising to the next level? Nothing. Not even a few cents. So why do people care if they rise to the next level? Because these people are like children- you introduce a child to a game, and say 'if you can do this and this you get points-the more points you get the better you are at the game.' To a kid, that's a fun challenge. But in adult should have the sense to realize, what do i need to play this game for?? If i want to be helpful and answer someone's problem, that is pay enough for me-the fact that i helped somebody-leave me alone with the stupid levels. But people fall for this. They think it's something great to get to a high level. How silly is THAT??? Secondly, don't ask me why, but a large percentage of people on YA are as nasty as they come. People come with real life problems, and they get verbally kicked in the head. When someone comes asking for help with a real problem, that is not the time to ridicule the person for their spelling, but that is exactly what some people do and worse. Once, for example, i came to YA asking some information about bipolar disorder because i was trying to write a novel about someone with BP. Somebody came on telling me that i shouldn't write a book if i dont know anything about the subject. He (or she?) worded it in a very mean way. What kind of help is that?? I have been on mylot so far for much less time than i've been on YA but so far, i have not seen nasty comments-not to me and not to anybody else. I hope it stays that way. I don't know why the nice civilized crowd seems to be attracted to Mylot and why those 'other' folks end up on YA. I don't know if it will help if they add a revenue program. There is something about the set up there or the way it's run, that attracts a lot of nastiness, and i'm sure it will help if they start paying them.

Hi there Risa, thank you for your response; I totally appreciate it. I'm sorry to read about your nasty encounters with some of the rude YA members. They are there for a reason; nasty reasons and I think they make their point to irritate others, or get a kick out of it or something. Does the abuse button over there ever works? They should be banned from Yahoo totally. I mean, rude comments are really not needed; it's a clear cut concept. Someone asks, and if one doesn't have anything to say, then don't say. So I can't understand why someone has to be rude into commenting. Beats me too.. Anyway, on a lighter note, I would like to welcome you to myLot..and here you can find lots of like-minded people that share your passion and where you can share comments and discussion ideas and topics. This site is diverse with lots of interests topics so you will bound to have some good friends. Some, if not all.. just don't entertain spammers here and you can report them to myLot anytime. If you feel that they are bothering you much. Other than that, it's a totally pleasurable experience here for me, and I hope you do too. I have been here for 3 years, and although not everything is always rosy, it is very satisfying for me. I have tons of friends here that I care about, and I would like to add more too..so I welcome you definitely. If in doubt, feel free to ask yeah.
