What's the first "thing" you bought/ you will buy yourself on your first salary?

I still don't have a work yet, but this year I will graduate and MOST probably will have my first job =) My plan for my first salary is to give it all to my mom.. but if I had my first very own salary maybe I'll just save it to buy a car because here in our place having a car is actually a necessity more than luxury since we're two hours away from the city where my mom works.. =( just a hybrid car will do.. i'm fine with it =) so how about you? for those who has a work now.. do you still remember what was the first thing you bought on your first salary? And to those who are still studying, what do you wanna have when you finally got your 1st salary =) Comments/ opinions are welcome. Take care and God bless you all =)

My first salary went to the bank. I hardly spend my money on anything apart from food and bills, even till now. Perhaps I'll use the money for travelling with my family one day.

On my very first salary, I think I just gave half to my mom and the rest, I used as my travel fair until the next pay day came up. I only started a week before pay day so I only got a quarter of the base salary that I was suppose to earn. The next pay day, I was away and just needed socks so I bought socks. Well, yeah, its not really as monumental but, I simply spent out of necessity. (^_^")

Well, considering that it was my first pay, it isn't really that hard to forget (^_^") I just had to give what I can to my mom as we do have lots of expenses at home. Its just right that I do my share now that I got work from that time. Your welcome.. uhmmm, what does 'X' mean or its just a typo? I noticed you replied with the same thing on another discussion..

wow that was quite a long time ago. as far as i remember that the first thing i bought in my first salary is i treated my self with some good foods because i got my salary then late at night and i was kind of starving so i rushed to the nearest restaurant and eat my hearts out there and go home and take a good rest.

I don't think you can afford a car with an entry level salary in the Philippines. the minimum wage stands at around 8 to 10 thousand a month. Whereas the price of a brand new car stands at around 600,000 to 700,000 pesos. The cost of a hydrid car stands at around 2 million pesos. So if you're planning to buy a car, you may need the help of your parents or start your own business. I think even lawyers and doctors can't afford to buy a car with their first salary. Buying your own car is still possible even if your just an employee but you will have to wait for a couple of years and several wage increases. From what i can recall, i was only able to treat a friend to lunch when i received my first salary. there's nothing especial that i was able to buy as far as i can remember. But that was more 10 years ago.

Hmmm.. I think a car that is enough to go from our house to office is fine with me. A second hand car will do as long as it's working properly. Mom and I already planned to invest on this because we really have to buy a car soon because it's so hard to commute in our place and the fare is expensive.. thanks for the algorithms.. hoping that i can buy a car soon. :)

If you think it is more convenient for you then go for it. Just be prepared for the extra fees you'l have to part with for maintaining a second car. More often we don't really care about the extra cost that goes with having the convenience of going anywhere at your own time. Besides, it's cool to be driving your own car. Good luck!

I will give my money to my parents because they know how to spend and save the amount. If suppose, the amount is in our hands, we may misuse them by purchasing unnecessary articles. So i will give my money to my parents.

during my first paycheck, i bought my first insurance policy. my older sister was the insurance agent, i was her first customer. hehe she had been bugging me to buy one before i got employed. and i promised then that i would once i got accepted at work and on my first paycheck i'll give her the 1st quarterly premium. so that's where almost half of my first salary went to. even if i really couldn't afford it that much during that time, i kept my promise. i didn't regret buying my insurance. it has been fully paid after 5 years. not one payment missed or delayed.

back when we had so little, every peso counts. that made every little financial decision valuable. even until now that we are financially comfortable, we still try to manage our finances to maximize benefits. planning for your own car and saving for it is a good decision. goodluck!

I do remember opening my first charge accounts at Pennys and May Co and Sears...about 2 years later. I was just thrilled to say "charge it"... just like I'd heard so many times on tv!!!

Hi Cecille :) The first major thing I bought when I was just out of high school and working full time was a brand new car. I was able to save money down on it, and then make monthly payments...a wise and "happy" purchase! My parents had to co-sign because I was so young, but the payments, insurance, and maintainance, I paid myself. Karen

Since the summer I turned 16, with a special permit, I worked in an office. Back then, in high school, we had a co-op program where we could attend classes half a day and work for grade credit the other half, so I still worked at that office when I was a senior. I was hired on full time when I graduated, and had already saved the money for a down-payment on the car. I also baby-sat some weekends to have spending money.

Good questions, I don't remember what I did with my first paycheck anymore. I do remember though what I did with the money the first time I got paid for articles that I wrote. I bought a cellphone! I was still a student then. hehe :) Goodluck to your graduation and pending job hunt!

I attended a conference and i was asked to write about my experiences there. I believe you can still read them up at http://ipsnews.net/alert/index.html The good thing about it is that I was just writing to get my views out, I didn't know they were going to pay me in the end. I think it was for three articles. Thanks and God bless too! :)

Every first paycheck seems to be exciting. I spent a big portion of my first salary to pay for the internet bill at home, a dinner treat, and a seminar. I did not really buy something special with it, but still I was able to enjoy my hard earned money.

I don't make a salary. I just get hourly pay. What little money I get always goes toward my bills. I don't make enough to by myself anything.

You're right, the first salary is really special. I wish I could remember what I spent it on! It was maybe around eight years ago already, my first official paycheck from a fulltime employment. I probably bought food with it, food to share with everyone of course. :)

I remembered that when i first received my salary from my boss, i had given my family a dinner treat at the nearby restaurant. Besides that, i even bought a dress for myself. I still remembered and cherished the moment i received my first salary from my boss. It means that i don't have to depend on my parents for my pocket money. I am happy that i am able to earn money by myself. Hope you will be very happy with your first salary, my friend.

I will never ever forget it. The first thing I bought with my first real pay check was a pearl ring. I had to put $50 down and pay for the ring weekly until I finally paid it off.
