i'm just wondering what your experiences are with them, because my son is now involved with them after 3 years of fighting to get help,i'm a bit dubious of how they can help as my previous experiences with child health workers hasn't been great, well actually it was appaulling,i'm just hoping that this time these people take me seriously

hi doormouse my experiences with them are also appalling as this one guy just wrote our little son off as another kid with attention deficit and did not go any further. but we found another psychologist who did make sense. He found out that our son was a gifted child and was bored sick in a regular kindegarten class. We sent him to a private school where they worked with him at an accelerated pace and he did learn and blossom like everything. He did not have attention deficit anything he was a gifted child and needed to be moved up. this was forty five years ago. He is a very smart man now. Hope you can get the help your son needs.

I know that they are well meaning, but have blinders on and cannot see some real life things for the books that they are immersed in. They do care about the kids, generally, but cannot necessarily tell a case study from a real kid.

i know they care, but due to their case loads they don't spend enough time with the children

Well my son has autism and he's worked with various people, speech therapists, occupational therapists, therapists that teach social skills. He's improved quite a lot in the 5+ years since we got him into the programs that are available.

My son is under alot of people for his ADHD and they are all hard to get hold of when you need them.My son will be seeing one of the education psycologists on Monday in school as they need to work out all the things that will help him whilst he is in the school as that way perhaps they can do a bit more to help him as well as see that he is not learning as well as he could be.I had to wait over 9 months for my son to see the ADHD clinic even when he was getting excluded from the school as well as smashing the class room up,i had to fight to get the appointment. The school teachers as well as the headmaster could see that there was a problem with my son yet i was the one who had to fight to get him seen by the professionals.

i'm glad to hear he's finally getting the help he needs,it's so sad when a child has a problem and there's no one there to help, that's not the way it should be,hope the meeting on monday goes well for him
