Do you avoid saying hi to peole that you knew as friends before?

Well you know when you make a new friend and then you don't really see each other until a year after and you see that person, but you just don't say hi. I know that I have done this it's not that I don't want to say hi, but it's just that I would feel awkward to do so. That's why I usually don't say hi unless they say hi to me first then I will say hi back. I don't know why I do this am I being kind of mean by doing this. What do you think? Do you also avoid saying hi to people that you knew before???

you do the same as I do, for old friends or people I've ever known but not seen again, I did not immediately say hello them. This does not mean I'm arrogant, do not want to know old friends again, but just to make sure that the person is true of people I've ever known. I can not imagine, if I which first start say hello to they but then the person ask to me ... "Who are you? when we have met?"

Hallo...I think I also wont directly say Hi to the person that I had never contacted for a year. Not because I am too proud to do so, only that I am afraid, they've already forgotten who I am. But maybe I will smile to them to show my friendliness, untill they call me first, I'll reply back. If they still cant recognise me than I will just pass by with a smiling face :)
