Do you live in the present moment?

Many of us live in the past, feeling sorry for some things that we did and wishing we'd done otherwise. Others worry about the future, wondering what tomorrow will hold or what will happen to us when we are old. I firmly believe that this has to change before a person can have a happy and worthwhile life. Lets forget about the past, it does not exist, except in our memory. Let's also stop worrying about how we're going to get through tomorrow or next year, or what may or may not happen in ten or twenty years from now. Life is going on right here and right now. lets pay attention to that and embrace the present moment because it's all any of us are guaranteed.

I live in the present moment even if remember the past their less things I could do so to change the courses of events, i already done it and so the better way for me to avoid repeating the same blunder that happen to me in the past is to learn to change my ways and avoid repetition. Although, their are past events which i regret wishing if I could go back i could make a better me or at least their a person whom i really miss and like to spend more time with him and be happy so all i could remember are all good events and not the tragic ones. But their is really no time machine which could turn back times and all I have to do is to live at the present, makes use of my time and be a blessing to others as well.Worrying about the past add only to stress which one already I have and for me life is so short to think of the past which i could not mend and so thinking of it makes me linger into depression especially if one to remember are the sad events. You are right then have to live in the present even if face with adversary since i could not please everyone I just should learn to accept it and just go with the flow as not all the time fortune favors me as sometimes it deprives me.

Hi, Pose123. Yes, I am inclined to live in the present moment. When I worry, I will worry about what will happen to me now or in a couple of days or so. Yes, I have stressed myself out about living in the past, but I have found out that it is not good to do this. So, I have stopped. I will focus on right here and right now. I will try not to upset myself what will happen later on down the line. Because it is always scary to think about.

Hi cream, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If you must think about the future, see good things happening, always expect the best. I don't believe anything is as scary as we imagine it to be. Blessings.

very interesting, pose. it's better to remember happy moments from the past and think of happiness in the future. we have the power of selection and we can apply this to what we want to remember, or reminisce. that same is true when we think of our future, let's always consider the bright side. thoughts other than that spawn worry and worry draws wrinkles in our faces... who would want to look older than his or her age? it's not bad to plan or look ahead... but when you look ahead, find the light not the shadow...

Hi bystander, Thanks for adding your thoughts here and I see nothing wrong with your ideas. It's when people let themselves become stressed over the "what if's" of the past and worry about what might happen in the future that they fail to enjoy the moment. Blessings.

it's always the "what if's" and the "why's" that trigger some stress, pose. most of these so-called stresses that affect our lives come from worries, worries about the past and worries about what the future will bring... but don't forget, we have the power of thought and with it comes a lot of choices on what to take and where to go... that gives us something to really turn the negatives into positives or we can simply neutralize stressful thoughts (even realities) by putting them in the dustbin of history...

I totally agree with what you said. Too many worry about what went on in the past, there is nothing we can do about that but hope that we learned a lesson from what went on, and not go back to doing the same thing. As for the future, we won't know till it gets here, and there really isn't much you can do when it does come, and hope that it is not something to bring us more mersery. What is happening today, is what is important, and how we handle it. Too many times I have to spend the day sorting out some thing that some one has screwed up and that takes my time and energy, if I was to sit along with that and wonder Oh God, what will tomorrow bring, it would be more than I can handle, I do good at handling today, let alone tomorrow when it hasn't even come yet. I think a lot of the drpression comes with the thought of if I hadn't done that or this, it is over, learn your lesson and go on. Wouldn't it be nice to have the ability to just go back and change what we don't like. I would be first in line. Those mistakes are what shapes us for the days ahead. I have a friend who is so depressed all the time, because she worries that she will get cancer or some other disease that will kill her or put her in a wheel chair, or nursing home or make it so that someone will have to take care of her. She spends her whole like going to the doctor to take tests and see if she will be alright tomorrow. Instead of just enjoying the day that she is able to spend right now. Or what if she had done this or that, why couldn't she see what was coming, I personally don't want to see what is coming, I will deal with it when it gets here. You are right we are not even guaranteed the day that we are in, let alone tomorrow. I just want my life to be peacefull and happy today, and if it isn't then I will deal with it and worry about what happens after that when tomorrow comes.

I wish I could only live in the present moment, but unfortunately it's not the case. I always find myself looking in the past or wondering about the future, I guess it's just human nature. But I think it is sometimes important to take a look at our past and learn from our mistakes, it is the best way to improve our future. If it was possible for me to live only in the present, I would be happy most of the time in my life. Because almost all my sad moments come from regrets of the past and worries about the future. Take care.

Hi votreAmie, Thank you for commenting and I believe it is possible for all of us to live in the present moment. We will all think about the past sometimes but we don't have to dwell on it. As for the future, it is promised to no one so we are worrying needlessly. Blessings.

Hello dear Pose. To me, I think that the past is a part of our history or story with some wonderful memory or less wonderful memory while the future is something that we look forward to with hope. Still we need to pay more attention to our present moment as it is more meaningful to us. Every happy present moment consists of any elements in life that we are living. Enjoy your life, my dear Pose.

Hi william, Thank you for your response. I was thinking of people who are making themselves very unhappy by continually thinking of something that happened in the past and which they can do nothing about. There are also those who worry so much about the future that they cannot enjoy living today. Blessings.

Well, yes, I am living in the present. There were situations where I have allowed myself to think much of my past. But those were the days of long ago. Now, I will just be content with what I have in the present and do what I can to avoid thinking the past mistakes I did. As the song goes, "I don't know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day." Yes I live in the present moment also known as now. You don't really have much else of a choice because regardless of how much you dwell on the past or worry about the future you still have the current time frame to take care of and live. We need to enjoy what's happening now so we aren't worried about the future and dwelling on all our problem's of the past.

I do live in the past or the moment. I plan for the future with always having a back plan. I know it is strange but I was raised to plan ahead and achieve goals that I make.

The past years have not been easy for me. I had a series of sad experiences that made it hard for me to move on. I admit that I had lived in the past, always thinking of what could have happened if I did this or that. I had a lot of what ifs in my mind. But I think through time I had learned to accept things as they are and I'm starting to get back to my life again. Things are working out well for me these days and I am just enjoying every moment of it. I don't think much about the future except for the things that I want to do or just the positive things. I am happier now and I only think of the past as a learning experience. ;D

This is such a challenge for me. I do so enjoy beating myself up over the past. This is where the tapping has helped. I don't have a problem letting the future take care of it's self. But one thing that is not entirely clear to me is how far is the present? One second, one hour, one day. I have to plan for some things in the future, does that mean that right now I need to be more concerned with the planning right now then the actions which will take place next week? I think I understand the concept but putting it in action is hard.

Hi savypat, Thank you for commenting and I can see you understand about the past. As for living in the present, I was simply thinking those who are always worried about what the future will bring. It's fine to make plans but take time to enjoy what's happening now. It's probably best sumed up in the say; "In your pursuit of happiness, take time to be happy". Blessings.

Hi Pose, I agree with you wholeheartedly. There is just no point in thinking about the past and worrying over it , neither is the future in our hands, so make the best of today, the present which is with us. I too believe that one must do the best he can and utilise each day to its maximum advantage because life is too short and before you know it, you will find that you have actually done nothing that you wanted to do in life, and are now too old or infirm to do most of those things . So, it is better to do as much as you can each day instead of feeling sorry or worrying about the past and being apprehensive about the future...all the best and happy mylotting

Hi Pose, Oh wow, you're so right. How true that we're always thinking about everything else except the present. Im afraid I suffer from this ailment lol. Last week, I was expecting people over and some had invited themselves and it would ruin everything. I was besides myself, worrying to the point of nearly making myself sick. Well, my aunts couldnt come that weekend and it solved the problem with my SIL. After the evening, I was soaking in my bath when it donged on me that I had been worrying about it all week and nothing bad happened. So why do we keep doing this?

It is so hard to live in the moment. I struggle with it every day. I get caught up in the worries about the future and those alot of the time tie in with regrets or bad decissions from the past. All those worries take away from the ability to enjoy the past. I try so hard to enjoy te moment.

Hi kmahony, Thank you for sharing and I think you have to put the past behind you. A lot of people suffer from the "what ifs". When you enjoy life in the moment, that moment soon becomes the future that we had been worrying about. We all need to learn that we can't face the future until it gets here, and usually it isn't nearly as bad as we had expected. Blessings.
