My first Rugby match!

I just saw England beat Wales 30-17! Go England! This was my first Rugby match. This game is great. It makes American football look like a Ladies' Sunday tea social! Tough is an understatement! There are similar traits ,like kicking an extra point and moving the ball up and down the field. It is close to Australian Football but more rough. Have you ever seen a rugby game?

Glad you enjoyed it, it was a good game and nice to watch England win. Well I use to play rugby, not at that sort of level, but was the main sport we were taught when we went to school and it certainly is a very brutal but entertaining game. The thing is that while it is very physical there is so much respect in the game between players and referees so much so that at club level after a game both teams would be in the bar having drinks together because all the animosity is kept on the field.

That's fantastic. I wish that could happen over here. It seems like there is a feud between players and the Refs or Umps. Umpires are the officials for baseball.I would love to meet up with the lads at the pub afterwards.I'm a rugby groupie! That was fast!

Something else you will notice the more you watch is that all the players have a respect for the ref. They call him sir on the field and his decision is final, their is no arguing or all the team grouping up to hassle him. He speaks to a teams captain and maybe a player who has done something wrong and no one else. If only other sports had that same level of respect.

Hi Sarah. I can't really say I watch rugby. All I know is that if I see rugby players on TV or in a movie, they always laugh at the american version because of all the paddings they wear. Interesting note though, the paddings that hockey players wear are also used more like weapons to hit other players. While it protects the player wearing the pads, they also use the hard sections of it to check other players. Of course, these are always overshadowed by the other prominent weapons that they carry -the stick and the skates. Makes it all more fun.

I've never seen a match, but my cousin played on a team here in Canada. Can't remember if it was local, provintial or national, but she was really good, and they traveled all over the world, a few years ago.
