Why are we afraid of the death?

Honestly,i'm very afraid of the death.whereas,it(the death) is the certainty..But why are we afraid of the death?is there the reason for this question?

i'm also afraid of it i think its the not knowing what will happed when we do and when my grandmother did it got wort.

Because it is that idea of stepping into the great unknown. Nobody really knows what awaits after this life. Heaven? Hell? Eternal "sleep"? None of us can really be certain what will happen after we die, so we don't want to die just in case it does turn out to be simply cutting to a state of no longer living.
