Why is Polygamy Illegal

Is it just religious? I think it should be 100% legal. Right now the "extra" wives are able to get government aid because they are single moms. Make them get married under the law and have the husband be responsible for taking care of the wives and kids. What do you think. They even had polygamous marriages in the bible.

Of course it could be allowed but if it happened a pandora's box would be opened. It would definitely be a deal breaker for me.

Deal breaker? But what if you could have multiple husbands?

I don't think it's because of the religion. I think it's because to protect the partner and the kids. Imagine you're married and you don't know if your husband is married for another woman or women. That's crazy and can cause many law problems I think.

Well of course all the parties would have to know and agree.

That sounds like a GREAT idea. I have a family member who has 3 children and will NOT marry her live in lover and father of her three kids because she is very well taken care of by the government!

i don't think those relationships often work very well. but if all the people involved want to try i don't see why a man can't have more than one wife, or a woman more than one husband. divorce lawyers especially would have a field day. on the other hand i don't think your idea of making it compulsory is particularly good but i'd guess you were not being exactly serious...
