Can someone please tell me what is the difference between swimwear and underwear??? A friend of mine had a very serious argument with his girlfriend about this. His comment- Whether you wear your swimsuit or your underwear, both are showing everything. I could not help her on this, as he even bowled me out with this one.

well, the cloth is different for one thing. And of course the use is different. Underwears are meant to be worn under your clothes, and swimwears are meant to be worn on the beach and while swimming. I don't know what the issue is really.

Well, she can swim whenever she wants, but she may want to invest more on shorts and tank tops as swimwears. hahaha.

To be honest, me neither. It was a man who started this, so we have to get to the bottom of this. Or my friends girlfriend may never have a nice swim again. TATA.

I think they are both the same as far as coverage goes I am not embarrassed to be seen in undies cause I feel like a swimsuit is far more revealing. There are only the obvious differences of the lining and the material being made for the water they are pretty much the same. Did someone get caught showing there undies?!?!?!

I don,t think they got caught. In todays life that is all you see, everybodies undies. Either they are too thin or they buy their clothes a few sizes bigger. After all the responses i think that there is not really much of a difference. But i am not the expert here. Thank you so much for responding. TATA.

Sounds like he was just basing it on how they look. The problem with underwear though is that it is more shere then bathing suits. So if you were to get your bra or underwear wet it would likely be very see threw. A bathing suit will stay nice and dark and should hide everything better. Also bathing suits are made of special fibers that allow them to get wet and hold their shape, unlike underwear which would very likely fall off if you were to swim in it.

Oh my God what a question is this! Swim wear is also one kind of underwear. Those are called underwear, which are worn under. As no other wear beneath the swim wear so swim wear are also underwear. So say her that as no other wear are worn beneath so it is underwear. This point is for you. But there is strong point to say that swimwear are not underwear.... Don't astonish ... I have good and valid point for that also. Underwear are worn under. And we wear outer wear upper it. But no upper wear is used in swimwear so it can't be underwear. Confusing but it is true that swimwear are not underwear.

saphrina, I wonder where in the world your friend actually got the idea that there are similarities or anything revealing. The very fact that both wears are different in their use and functionality, where for one you would not want a swimwear for an undergarment and the opposite. I mean try imagine how hygienic it is, swimming in your underwear in a swimming pool. Talking about misfits in life. Second, we have the materials being used for the swimsuits where I would not recommend wearing it throughout the day when you are on dry land. It is just not healthy for your skin when you are wearing swimsuit materials that aren't sweat absorbent and non breathable. Talking about being revealing, I am sure no one would want to go out wearing just one's underwear only. And if you have been around to notice enough swimwear today are whole suits or quarter pants. Your friend is really quite a fellow and just sounds quite intimidating. Anyway, I hope this explanation would be able to turn the boat for you. Have a nice day.

I hope so too, but i think it is more jealousy, than anything else. We have things too flaunt and show off and he doesn,t. But we will eventually get him to accept it. Thanks for responding. TATA.

Well I am no epxert but from a logical point of view I would say that swimwear is underwear you wear to the beach to swim in .It may not even be underwear just any close fitting clothes that that will move nicely in the water .Consequently all swimwear may be used as undewear evn though it may be uncomfortable but not all underwear is swimwear

i think there is no difference between swimwear and underwear only the difference in prices. as bikini shows them outside the producers concentrate on producing the fasionable one to compete other company it shows that girls are like beautiful bikinie's than underwears so according to me there is no difference between the two what you stated.

I suggest that your friend should use a swimsuit. A swimwear has materials that is chlorine resistant such as endurance+ for speedo and lycra for others - while a regular underwear is made of cotton, which chlorine can easily destroy. Aside from that you will look more akward wearing underwear - people will stare at you (although this is the opposite here in our country) You can still use a conservative type of swimwear - not high or medium cut. The conservative type is longer (or like wearing shorts) or use jammers (i.e. cycling shorts)under your swimwear if you are not comfortable wearing one. If you still insist on keeping yourself covered, may I also suggest wearing body shirts used for surfing.

I think that swim wear and underwear are very similar but not identical. Bathing suits and what not have a different type of material that is meant for constant repeated use in a pool, lake or where ever you swimming. There is lining in it as well. Where underwear gets warn much easier, loses it's color faster and is more revealing.

There is a big diffrence in swim wear and underware. I wear thongs so they are more reveiling vs a one piece. Also swimwear is made so that it doesnt expand when wet to fall off as easy.

With someone who is conservative then I would say swimwear or underwear like a panty short will still be considered showing everything. Though for real a swimwear is different from underwear due to the fact that it is thicker and stronger as it is meant for swimming which requires a stronger activity too. But if myboyfriend will be conservative and if he isn't at ease with me in those when I'm in public then I will follow him in that aspect as long as I still can wear my swimsuit when I'm with him alone.
