the Bible and abortion

I've noticed that many many Christians are against abortion. The Catholic Church, for example, spends a great deal of time teaching and preaching against abortion. In fact, some priests have called for the excommunication of politicians who support abortion. I'm not sure what they do to women who have abortions, but I know it's considered a mortal sin. I also know that most fundamentalist churches and many Protestant denominations also oppose abortion. Putting aside my personal feelings on the issue, I am curious to know why so many religious people oppose abortion. Where in the Bible does it say that abortion is wrong? I know that it says to kill people is wrong, but many people are against murder, but still support legalized abortion. Where in the Bible does it say that I wear baby is a person? Why is it a Christian teaching that a fetus is a person, if it doesn't say it in the Bible?

http://www.illinoisrighttolife.org/ScripturesOnAbortion.htm this website covers a few of them. According to the scriptures God has a plan for everyone even before they are born.

..hi opalina.. In my own belief, a fetus is considered a person when it starts to breath because it has life already.. and abortion is one type of killing.. well, tearing a plant is cosidered killing already right? so stopping the life of any living thing is considered killing.. it doesn't specifically say in the Bible that abortion is wrong but the word used is killing.. and I don't think there is what we call a legalized abortion.. because no matter what type of abortion it is, it is still a way of killing a living thing, most importantly a person. fetus is already a person.. why? because it has the attributes of a person.. what the fetus only need is to be born.. I would ask you in return, what is the difference between a fetus and a person? and how do you define a person?.. because for me, there is no difference between a fetus and a person... all people undergo the cycle of development and we knew that before somebody become a fully grown human, it will start first as a fetus..

The unborn is human, its DNA is sufficient to show that. The Bible is against the taking of human life. Nuff said all the best urban

I believe that life begins at conception. A fetus is alive and develops into a baby. The Bible says that killing is wrong. I know that the Catholic Church is extremely against abortion. I don't know what it does the a Catholic lady that has an abortion. She might have seek forgiveness for committing such a terrible sin. Christians believe that Mary was pregnant with Jesus. They mention him in the Bible and say that he was very special. When a lady has an abortion that baby might have been a really great person. The Bible doesn't have a story about abortion. Abortion was one of the most horrible acts created by grown up people.

This is not a generalization to all Christians, but in many cases lust leads to abortion. A one night stand might lead to the girl getting pregnant. Why contracption isn't used is beyond me. In many cases, abortion looks like the thing to have. I've personally known girls who've had abortions and I knew some who performed abortions on themselves which is why I was for it at first -- to keep girls from doing it themselves or going to back alley doctors. I myself know of friend whose girlfriend threatened to have an abortion if he didn't marry her. He didn't marry her, she had the abortion. This is what changed my mind towards abortions. For some people, it is a convenience, a way to hide the results of their sin after committing acts of lust.

Opalina 123 - the descriptions above make me wonder if you are not somehow affiliated with the medical field. But whether yes or not - those proceedures would have to be done by someone without a reachable conscience. What barbaric ways of "getting rid of a life."

you know what dear that's the biggest sin ever..there are a lot of people who are asking for a child like me and there are others who aborts their child?why can't they just give that to me and let me bear them coz for now i really wanted to have my own child already but i think GOD doesn't want to give me one..abortion is not a good practice coz you're like the murderers already..

It doesn't mention abortion explicitly. However, it does command us not to kill.

All religions oppose abortion. I feel there are primarily two reasons for it…the more babies born into the faith means more number of followers. Secondly, successive abortion does harm the female body so the fear of religion is instilled to prevent it.

successive abortions do not damage the body.
