Do animals celebrate Valentines day?

Fishes making love - The picture is taken on Valentines day. Perhaps it was just coincidence that the picture was taken on February 14.

I went diving today, February 14, and I guess everybody knows that its valentines day. As I went underwater, I toke some pictures along the way. I could not help but ponder on what I saw. Two fishes making love... It was then that I realized that it is Valentines day. Well, perhaps it was just coincidence, but it was really amazing indeed. So come to think of it, do you think animals celebrate the day of hearts?

Hello there and happy valentines day to you.In my point of view, regardless what species we are , and regardless on what day or celebration it might be, when you're in love , then everyday could become a hearts day...It doesn't really matter what day it is 'coz when you're in love, then it just overflows naturally...Am i right at this???

Yes you are right. Although animals are of lower levels as compared to us, I know that they to have feelings and when love comes along, it does not matter what day or what time. Happy Valentines to you!

Hahaha, I do agree that its impossible. I think it was just a coincidence. But it was really amazing. I really find it funny and interesting. I have never seen fishes making love during my dive. But now here it is, and I was even able to take a picture of it.. on valentines day..

As far as my Biology is concerned (which isn't so reliable anymore), animals don't need Valentine's day to "make love". They simply follow their instincts. I'm trying to sound smart!

Well, I think I will have to agree with you on this considering that you are basing it on facts. Anyway, it was just funny considering that I was able to see it during valentines day. It was just coincidence, most likely. Maybe perhaps on my future dives, I would see it again, even when its not valentines day.

Hi! Maybe they do, if they know that today is the valentine's day! Maybe among the animals there is also love and not just mating, because as we know there are many polygamies animals, but there are also many monogamies animals, which stay with their female or male partner whole life long, and I don't think it is just an animal instinct or some think like that. by the way, today I have heard some birds singing a nice and lovely song. maybe they know what day is today

Well, people might say that it was just coincidence that I was able to see it during Valentines day. But nevertheless, it was something great and animals may not be celebrating the day of hearts but they do have feelings and whether its valentines day or not... whats important is to have someone along the way to share life with. Happy Valentines to you!

yeah, they may not celebrate it, but they do have feelings like us people, and they also feel the love in the air

yeah, i guess they do. animals are also divided into female and male, so i think it's appropriate for them to have valentines. maybe the fishes wanted to remind you that it's valentines in case you forgot

I got it swing out sister. Perhaps it was a reminder for me that I need to spend time with my family. Most of us are so pre-occupied with work and we tend to forget the most important things in life... Our family, our love ones. Thank you for the response and may you have a valentines day everyday!

Yes, I guess I agree with you karyl. They probably do not know valentines day nor any special day. What they obviously know is that there is the need for someone to share life with. It does not matter what time of day... everyone needs to have someone. Best to you and may you find that someone in life to share great moments together... valentines day or not.

Thank you for making smile, I envisaged two fishes at a table in a restaurant by the rocks, a candlelit dinner for two, and a big piece of coral on the table as they bubble sweet little nothings to each other. I don't think fish have any concept for time, animals know when they are being fed and when its the same time every day then they know its feeding time but as for the day of the week. Well for my cat she is pampered so much every day for her is Christmas Day LOL!

I love your question! Well, I'm sure that animals are much cleverer than we can ever know, and we don't give them nearly enough credit for this. ...So maybe they do! It's a lovely idea. I can imagine the fish wining and dining eachother and the birds and the bees getting romantic in the trees. And the best part of it is that they'd do it without all the darn commercialism!! No Hallmark-sponsored holidays in the animal world, so they are undoubtedly cleverer than us, lol!

Hahahaha, great imagination indeed. I am sure that they do have feelings and I think it does not matter what the day is. They just do it in a simple way.

It a very funny topic that you have chosen ant its shows your presence of mind. Now coming to the topic ,i think animals might be celebrating valentines day in their secret ways which is not visible to us.It is also possible that must be celebrating their valentines day on any different date.As you told that you saw two fishes making love, then i feel that they must be celebrating their valentines day on that day only. ha ha ha Take care.

This is a very wonderful question... I guess they don't know what Valentines Day is but I totally agree that animals know how to love and that they know how to celebrate their love for each other. So I think that animals celebrate love in their own ways..hehehe (?) and Sir God made you realize that, its the hearts day through them,it is so beautiful to ponder how these creatures become God's instruments in reminding us of LOVE.

Yes, I too think that they do not have such event, like valentines day, christmas day and other celebrations. But surely animals do have feelings and they are indeed capable of giving love and affection.

Animals do not. All animals live by instinct. Even when they mate... it is initiated by hormones that are released by both male and female.

in my own opinion, animals will do love making not in the sense that its valentines day but rather in any time they wanted to..animalreally differed to us coz they have no intellec but they can do what ever they want just like us.love making?...of course they can..how can they become many if they cant make it?so am sure that they do love not bcoz its valentines day but bcoz they need that time...thats it...

You are right on this my friend. Most likely they do not know the date nor they are familiar with valentines day. But by instinct..perhaps they love and care. It does not matter what day it is nor the time. Just like us, regardless whether its valentines or not, we do love and care anytime.

Obviously not. what you saw may just be a coincidence. Animal follow their own instincts and do not like human manupulate days to celebrate love.
