In restaurants or in food stands here, I see people drinking softdrinks. Although I see some drinking from glasses, majority of them drink straight from the softdrinks bottle. Why do you think they drink it straight from the bottle? What is your take on this?

Hi moneymaking, i am also drinking softdrinks straight from the bottle, but it depends on where i am. Usually in food stands they serve soft drinks in bottles but in restaurants they serve it with drinking glasses. In drinking straight from the bottle, we just have to use a straw if there's no straw, we should clean the lid of the bottle before drinking from it. You see it is nice sometimes to drink from the bottle specially of the softdrinks is icy cold.

softdrinks - softdrinks in cans and bottles on display in a grocery store
Hi Triplejazzm51, You may call me MMT, for short. Most people drink straight from the bottle because of convenience. It really depends on where we are and whether it is convenient to do that. I have experienced buying from little stores I passed by when I was younger. You just have to drink it straight from the bottle right there to quench your thirst and because you need to return the bottle to the store. This usually happens if there is no drinking straw available. I have noticed lately that stores pour the contents into small plastic bags and provide straw.

It depends on which size bottle we are referring to. If I'm drinking a 20oz bottle of soda then I will drink it from the bottle because that size bottle isn't really made to be shared with other people. However, if I have a two liter bottle of soda, then I will pour it into a cup with ice and drink it from the cup. I believe that the majority of the reason that you see people drinking out of bottles is because of the convenience of it.

Hi Dorannmwin, It might be the reason for most of those who drink from the bottle. It is so convenient while it is quick and easy. It would, of course, depend on the quantity of liquid inside the bottle. It would sometimes depend on the place where you drink. When you are on the road and decide to stop to buy softdrinks, it wouldn't be convenient to drink from glasses and cups while the car is in motion.

I would never drink directly from the bottle because the only time I buy soft drinks in a bottle, it is a 2 or 3 liter bottle. I do buy individual servings in cans but never drink directly from the can. I assume that those who do drink directly from the can do so for convenience sake. It would take an extra few seconds to poour the drink into a glass.

Hi Bellis, Hahahaha, that would be too much to drink from a 2 or 3 liter bottle! Drinking straight from bottles and cans may be convenient to many. They do not need to look for a glass to pour the contents into. Nor they spend extra time to do it. But, let us be aware that were instances here where lawsuits were filed against bottling companies because of contaminated products. It is always good to check what is inside the bottle before buying or drinking.

Hi Bingchen, It should be convenience on the part of the drinker. Or may be time constraint. He may be in such a hurry to quench his thirst that he chooses to drink straight from the bottle. It would only take a short time to pour it into a glass; that is, if a glass is readily available. I think it is safe to pour out contents and drink from a glass. There were instances of contamination here. Some foreign materials were found floating inside the bottle. It is always good to check first what you are drinking.

Transferring the contents from the bottle to a glass involves exposure to airborne microbes. Furthermore, one can't be sure if the drinking glass is really clean. Healthwise, it is better to drink straight from the bottle.

drinking from glass - drinking from glass using drinking straw
Hi Bamikalipal, I respect your opinion. It may happen at times, too. I think there would be exposure if you are in an open space while pouring the contents into a glass. But I think that should not be so when you are inside a restaurant and at home, where you get to drink from the glass right away. At home, we are confident that we clean our glasses, plates and other utensils thoroughly. In restaurants, we may have doubts about it. But are we sure that we are drinking from a clean bottle if we drink straight from it? I have to tell you that there were instances here that softdrinks were contaminated with foreign materials inside the bottle. Drinking straight from it may not give you the chance to thoroughly view the contents of the bottle, especially if you are in a hurry.

Hi Basqui, I understand that time may be so precious for some people like you. It is always easy to drink straight from the bottle especially when you are such in a hurry. And especially, if you cannot find a glass handy at the time. Here, there were instances of foreign materials found floating inside bottles. It might be worth to check first before drinking what is inside the bottle.

I drink it straight from the bottle sometimes too. I guess it's because I think it is pointless transferring it from bottle to glass, so I just drink it from whatever container it comes in really

drinking softdrinks - drinking softdrinks straight from bottle
Hi MrKennedy, It happens at times. It is especially so when you are so thirsty. Or when you are in a hurry. You are such in a hurry that you do not have time to think whether the bottle was cleaned well by the bottling company, lol. I think it is good to examine well what is inside the bottle. Here, there were instances that the bottle might not be well cleaned because there were foreign materials floating inside.

softdrinks - softdrinks on display in a store
Hi Phoenix, That might be one reason especially when you are in a hurry. It might be good to remember that these bottles were also used by previous drinkers who might have also drank straight from it. Although we understand that bottling companies clean these bottles, that should not be a guarantee though. I have heard of instances where these softdrinks were contaminated. Foreign bodies were inside the bottle.
