I am a syrup sucking, icehole Canadian

Stephen Colbert says so, and heaven knows the American Nation believes everything he says right? It's bad enough this news satirist, of whom I've been a major fan for years, insults our famous Candian maple syrup and mocks our love of hockey. But to make such a statement over and over again BEFORE he left the States to attend the Olympics in Vancouver was enough to turn my opinion of him on it's head. HOWEVER! I AM CANADIAN! And we don't get mad. We get even. Click this link and be prepared to admire the way Canada has turned Mr. Stephen Colbert's own words around to make him humbler than he will ever be again.......... http://www.ctvolympics.ca/speed-skating/news/newsid=45033.html#colbert+vancouver+at+oval Yes my American friends, there are GREAT differences in our two cultures and I'm sure Mr. Colbert will never forget that now! lol

We got him! LOL I have a very special unopened bottle of Canadian Maple Syrup. It has a pewter Maple Leaf imbedded in the glass. I am going to make a lable that says Icehole Syrup and send to Colbert and dare him to show it on tv and read out loud the accompanying note. And they say Canadians are shy and have no sense of humor! ROFL

he is just jealous! seriously, i think that a lot of Americans think that they are way better than their friends to the north because they just dont know (or dont care) about us! i had a friend who worked in his state's capital and he quizzed all his office mates and they had no idea what the capital of Canada is! (ok, one did!) revenge is sweet!!!

We Canadians are educated all through school about our neighbours to the south. We get so much of their tv programming. We pay attention. lol I don't think anyone knows much or understands and appreciates our own great nation until they've been here.

sparks way back and I do mean way back when I was twenty I vacationed with my parentsin Alberta Canada and the one thing I remembered the most out of a lot of memorable things was how very kind and thoughtful the Canadians were to us. It made our stay there really fantastic and gave me a new respect for our Canadian neighbors , not just yelling cause you sent all that frigid air down onto our home in South Dakota, he eh. No I learned to really love and like Canada a lot. but you are right to really appreciate Canada you need to visit it in person. I would so love to go back one of these days.at the young age of 20 I was also much taken by this one Royal Canadian Mounted POlice as he was so cute in his uniform. leave it to a twenty yr old who was more naive back int those days thant the 20 yr. olds are today. Of course it was all one sided, he never knew I thought he was the real thing. He would probably have laughed himself sick if he had known. he he.

Hatley....I first learned about our great province of Alberta in 2nd grade. I decided there and then that one day I would live there. In 2000 I moved there and it was everything and more that I hoped it would be. I'm glad you had the opportunity to experience it. And as for your Mountie........oh sweetie he wouldn't have laughed himself sick at all. He would have been flattered, proud and probably have asked you out to the next Mountie Friday night dance! Our Mounties are our youths cream of the crop. Their manners are impeccable!

wow sparkofinsanity that Stephen Colbert sure put both feet in his big fat mouth. now this sure makes the US seem not very nice to our neighbor Canada, this is just too much. I am embarrassed for the US by what this indiot had to say. What a way to talk when he is on Canadian soil no less. So he tried to make amends , well maybe he did mean it who knows when it comes to newscasters.Yes Sparks there are great differences in our cultures but we can all still be friends, hope this Stephen Colbert realizes his stupidity now. Satire can be fun or it can be ruthless instead.

When he got back to the States and broadcast from his studio again, he came right out and apologized to us. lol So no worries. He does not upset me, so do not let him upset you. Just be glad he is not a Mountie! ROFL

I gave up enjoying satirist about 20 years ago, when I realized that they do nothing more than add to the disturbing energies in the world. Both Hubby and I are enjoying the winter olympics in your country and the amazing coverage which can only come from careful planning and execution. We thank you for this experience. I cannot remember any olympics which didn't have gliches so "Don't sweat the small stuff."

I think that Canada receives a lot of stick sometimes, and people rely on old, tired sterotypes to poke fun out of such a fantastic nation If I ever had the chance, I would like to spend a holiday in Vancouver, as I have heard only good things about this place

Vancouver is lovely if you can stand the rain. lol But there is so much more to rest of our country worth exploring. I have travelled from one side to the other, and every turn of the road is a new vista that takes your breathe away. I think my favorite place to be is Ontario in the Fall when the maple trees are turning. Has Vermont beat, that is for sure! LOL

That is an interesting article. Thank you for sharing that with us. But Sparks!!! I always knew you were a little different than the rest of the world. I thought it was just you. This article helps me to understand that all of your kind are a little different. So does that now lead me to believe you are not so unique after all this time??? Hell, no!! You are unique and my opinion has not been changed because of this one article. This guy should grow up and quit name-calling. He is just going to get himself in so deep he will not ever make it back out of Canada. I like comedians generally but I don't care for the ones who insult entire cultures. Sparks, do me a favor. Bury this guy in that big hole that was next door to your house or introduce him to that moose that attacked your truck. :)

For some low life to down another country, especially one that's an Ally is an embarrassment and a disgrace to their own country and it's citizens. Unfortunately, all countries have them so we have to consider the source and let jacks like him be. Sure, we could lower ourselves to his level and stomp all over him but will that change his opinion? Will that make him keep his opinions to himself? No, it won't so why bother? Just consider the source and move on like he's not even there. Besides, we're all different regardless of where we came from. If we were all the same, the world would be one boring place!

I am an American citizen and what Stephen Colbert said was very wrong. I know there are differences in our 2 cultures but I have some good Canadian friends whom I would have their back in a second. I am from Michigan and the Blue Water Bridge is just a hop skip and a jump away from me so I have been to Canada a lot of times and I have enjoyed my experience over there. I have never liked Stephen Colbert and I think he may have been on my TV for a total of 3 minutes before I figured out I didn't like him and this proves more why I think he should be off of TV.
