Why do people create viruses?

I understand the point of the ones that steal your passwords or credit card info, although still think this is 100% wrong, But why do people make viruses that simply mess up your computer? I just had to totally wipe my hard drive clean because I got a virus that made my computer shut down every 5 minutes. Talk about annoying! So what was the point? Just to make those of us that get infected go crazy?

Just in my mind that viruses created for it is also a business. It is part of the computer trouble for the technician to do and check. If no virus our computers will not need to be checked by special skills in charge of this. How can they earn if nothing to do so. So it must be done for the owners to go every now and then reformat and checked what makes the computer shut down. I also experienced this situation where just finished installed and then afterwards I used the internet explorer so happen that it has many viruses that created trouble to my files. When I do encoding it will shut down and cannot be opened and said it was corrupted and locked. It made me crazy and surprised .

I guess this is the kind of thing that happens in a capitalist society. There is a lot of money to be made on anti-virus software and computer repair of infected machines. I like to think that people wouldn't mess up someone else's stuff, just to make them have to fix it, but I'm sure it happens.

this is so true. most of the problems right now are created by us humans. if there are no computer viruses then there won't be any computer scientists... or computer experts. same as our health. there won't be any doctors and all.

There are all sorts of people in the world today and have been before too, good and bad, crazy and sane, or intelligent but malicious. crime is rampant everywhere, no less in the cyber world. so you have the hackers and virus creators. some do it for fun, some do it with an ulterior motive and some do it in rage or because they are plain ornery.I too can`t understand what vicarious pleasure they get by doing such thing. I think that most of them are a frustrated lot who have failed to do good in the outer world and are taking it out on the ordinary citizens of the world.Mind you, they are geniuses but they are using their intellect in the wrong direction to trouble everybody and out of frustration. Some are plain evil and may be doing for revenge or their minds may be criminalised. They are psychopaths of a different kind.

Everything you said is 100% true. I wish that they would direct their anger at the people who caused it and not me and the other innocent people just trying to have fun or make money online. I used to think I was pretty empathetic, but I just can't put myself in the mindset of intentionally causing destruction to other people's property.

That was the whole point. Some people get an enjoyment out of making other people go through what you've gone through. I don't know what makes people like that tick. Idea of being able to do it can be also a motive, I guess.

Well...I hope they are happy on their power trip. I wish that it was easier for law enforcement to catch people like that so that maybe viruses wouldn't run so rampant. Maybe I'll get a MAC...

I don't know if it's true or not, but I had heard that some people create viruses as a sort of resume for jobs writing code. If they can create a successful virus, it's impressive to some companies. I guess it shows that they can write code well. I suppose some of them end up as consultants to track down other virus creators.

I understand the reasoning, but totally disagree with the morality and principals of the issue. There has got to be a better way to test these people.

Well with too much knowledge comes money. Many of the viruses that I have seen are acting like they're anti-viruses warning you that you have to delete files from your hard drive and also asking you to pay with your credit card. Those are smart viruses as they are working opposite of what we believe is helping us instead we're enabling them to enter by our own permission. Most viruses nowadays are also attached to movies, music, torrents. Too many to name but all in all to invade your pc and make a point .. 'I'm a loser, but I got your computer' silly but that's the truth.

OF corse, if we don't have viruses, then no no need for computer engineers. Viruses equals creating job for people who specialize in virus repair hehe

there are a lot of things that people do which they should not do and is 100 percent wrong... people bomb places which kills alot of innocent people.... compared to this, creating virus is nothing... alot of talented people don't get the right platform to show off their talent and this is the way of showing it.... making a virus and not getting detected is a lot of work and you have to master nearly all programming languages to do so.... so surely people who create viruses are highly skilled. All they need is right platform and direction...

People create viruses because the can. It shows them how big a person they are. It relieves boredom. A lot do it because they have no social life or friends. They are making a statement that there is something they can do. Also, secretly, I believe a lot of viruses are created by the virus catching companies. How else will they sell so many versions of their virus protecting software.

money! people makes computer viruses for money..whether directly or indirectly.. if you happened to be an anti-virus programmer, you would not sell your product without virus..nobody wants to buy a killer software if there's nothing to kill..if you are the one who can create the most dangerous, destructive virus, it means you are the one who can stop it..your anti-virus would be the most expensive, money-making software.. on the other hand, other people practice their programming skills in creating viruses..even if they don't make anti-virus, ability to make hard virus, surpassing the latest, most updated anti-virus means job opportunity with high pay.. so, don't get mad about viruses..they are livelihood to others..just provide your PC with security software.. they are always available in the market..or maybe you can try using other operating system like Ubuntu..it's free..
