Meat Makes Me Sick...

As some of you know I quit eating meat about 6 months ago…although I do still have a tiny bit in like chicken soup and stuff. For the most part though, I don’t eat any. I find I don’t really miss it much now but I’ve also found out something else. When I do eat more than a tiny bit it makes me terribly sick. The other day I was out with my Mom and she bought a little 6-piece nugget meal at McDonald’s, she made me eat 3 and she ate 3. By the time I got home less than an hour later I was having cramps (like food poisoning cramps), diarrhea and upset stomach. Since it was the only thing I ate and I was fine before I ate it…it had to be the meat. I’ve had this happen other times too when I’ve tried to eat very much meat. I guess now that my body is rid of the old meat it doesn’t want any new meat. Have you ever quit eating a food and then found that it made you sick when you tried to eat it? What food have you cut out of your daily eating? Do you think there’s something in meat that makes you crave it more when you eat it? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I you are not used to eating something and then do.. it very well could make you hurt.. your insides are not used to it. However... McDonalds chicken nuggest are not chicken. They are mostly fish by-products (meaning any junk parts of fish that aren't sold elsewhere) and some chicken junk parts. You'd never eat them again even if you love chicken/meat if you actually saw what goes into them! Same thing with balogna...Thye just dump all "meat" parts that didn't go elsewhere into a bucket and puree it! I can't imagen life without a good beefy steak.

Happy Friday...twoey68! For me IT IS DEFINITELY...not the MEAT! It would be the batter...and the FAT, that the nuggets are cooked in! Living where FAST FOOD, is very seldom on the menu...once every 4 - 6 months...any & all forms of fast food make me sick, with diarhea and severe stomach cramps! I do nOT, anymore eat any form of fast food, when I am in the City..I will go to a Safeway, Thrifty's etc., and get a nice salad, even with meat or seafood in it, and I am fine. I truly do not believe it is the meat...I believe itis the preparation! Cheers!

I never really thought about it, but yeah, I guess with all the old hippy dippy granola farmers out there on Galiano, there wouldn't be much call for McDonald's... (just teasing, btw...)

That was FAR TOO funny..BarBaraPrz...you actually had me laughing out loud! The Island is actually quite small, 17 miles long ..and 5 miles at the widest point, so we have mini-everything...even Granola Bars! Houses soooo small you have to GO outside to change your mind! And the residents...are HALF-PINTS...and HALF WITZ! LOL! But at least we have FULL..SUNSHINE...and the daffodils just bloomed today. Busy cleaning the Rental Cottage for you and "Osh!" See ya' soon! Take care & Cheers! (HURRY-before the Owe-lympics are over!)

Meat doesn't in itself make me sick, but it does tend to bung me up, if you know what I mean, and that could become complicated if not dealt with promptly. Gimme nuts and berries!

Yep! If you don't eat such things very often I wouldn't say it's the meat it's just the way it's made. As my friend calls it McGut Rot when you feel yucky some time after consuming McD's. Especially since we are used to eating at home if we eat something out of the ordinary like fast food we may end up with a belly ache. Chinese does that same thing to me too, it's just more than my body is used to.

I do not eat butter unless it is cooked in something as it is disgusting to me. I stopped eating it as a kid much to my parents dismay and now it just makes me shudder to think about trying to eat like a piece of toast with butter. I know it's all in my head but I don't care, I just avoid it.

If I didn't know better, I'd say my husband wrote this. I have to nuke or pre-melt his butter, he can't handle it cold.

It sounds like food poisoning. Did you see a dr and they tell you it was from eating the meat or did you just decide yourself? I have known some people that work at McDonalds and they tell me that sometimes they have the chicken nuggets setting out too long before they are cooked. could this be what happened to you? I know that a lack of protein in one's diet can cause problems also.

Once you stop eating an entire food group, your body no longer needs the enzymes to break that kind of food down. So your body stops producing them. Without those enzymes, you can become very ill in the gastro-intestinal system where the enzymes and bacteria specific to that food group used to be, but are no longer there. You were probably told that by other people, but I'm doing this off my mail notifyer. Yeah, they add stuff to cows like hormones and anti-biotics, same with chicken and pork. Also salt in the summer and fat in the winter can make you want it more. The hormones mess with my menopause. If I could, I'd only buy organic or meat that promises no hormones (I'll know if they're lying, my hot flashes and night sweats get worse). But mostly without meat, my iron count goes low and I hate cooked greens, get sick of fresh ones, so getting my iron is a problem.

I have a question for you, does your McD's have a vegetarian meal? I eat the fruit and yogurt offerings at ours and I'm not a vegetarian. Tjey had a $1 parfait that is layers of yogurt and berries; they also have apples, grapes, fruit, nuts and a yogurt dipping thing there, too. Or do you eat dairy? Of all the things there, I wouldn't eat the stuff that does in the oil to deep fry. If you aren't used to deep fried foods and you aren't used to meat, you gave your body a double-whammy. Plus, what od you mean your Mother made you?

I quit meat as mainly due to some wish which I wanted to get fulfilled. Now it has been almost 3 years and might take another ear for this commitment...but from quite sometime I am finding that I've no craving left to eat the stuff..even if my wish is fulfilled I don't think I am going to start eating. But yes I can take fish in a small quantity. But my hubby had food poisoning many times by eating chicken and that too from last several months though he was very fond of it....have a nice day!!

hi twoey68 they have a habit of serving corn dogs here at Gold crest retirement home on Sundays and I have just laid the thing aside as I did not like the coating on the corn dog, well this time I ate it and I dont know if it was the thick dough coating or the dog itself, or that they were not fresh bu t that corn dog sat in my tummy all afternoon and felt just like a rock. It finally did digest I guess but I was ill all afternoon and evening. no more corn dogs for me,or maybe just no more hot dogs for me as I never could eat any hot dog but pure beef hot dogs and these were not beef.

That stuff's not meat... I was off milk for a while and when I put it back into my diet, I got hives for a while. Not sure it was the milk though.

I have never done this. I am a meat eater. I do know that when you are sick and just eathing liquids you need to get your body used to heavy foods that are harder to digest. Your body just isn't used to the heavier food and it is rebelling. Also remember the break-fast word. Breaking a fast is hard on your system. Becareful with it.

Sugar-based foods are my biggest problem. I used to feel very tired and ill all the time and I ended up going to see a nutritionists as nothing medical could be found to be wrong with me. I was put on an exclusions diet and then asked to add certain substance after about one month. I was feeling much better after a few weeks to eating just plain foods like meat and vegetables (I don't have a problem with meat). But then we added some cheese.. I was OK, then some milk... again I was OK. But when I added just a small amount of sugar, I felt really ill again. I felt sick, then a rash appeared on my skin and then I got the mother of all headaches. That was around 20 years ago, and now I am OK providing I do not eat any sugar or foods with sugar in. _Derek

I haven't given up meat but I eat a lot less of it than I used to for the sake of my health. I've stopped eating fast food, for the most part, too. When I do, I don't really feel well because I now avoid fat, salt and preservatives. I feel much better but every so often I get a craving for a White Castle burger or those horrid McDonald's cheeseburgers!

What you saying makes sence. The only meat i eat is fish and chicken. My stomach does not tolerate pork. Sometimes when my daughter wants to eat at a fast food place ive gotten fish sandwichs. My stomach would get upset and id have heartburn. I can only conclude its the grease. I know a young lady that worked at a fast food place for awhile. She told me they only changed the grease once a week. As much as that grease gets used daily that is not enough. More likely it was the grease that caused your problems. Im just guessing you know your body better. But i remember for long time i didnt eat chicken either. Traveling through a small town i had limited options and had to order chicken. My stomach get upset that day too.

I am not a vegetarian but I rarely eat red meat. My sole reason is because I just do not like it! I don’t know if that is because my mother used to force feed me steak as a little kid and spend hours trying to get me to eat it! I am not keen on steaks although I can eat red meat in other ways. If you felt sick after eating MacDonald’s it may well not be the presence of meat but the fact that it is not cooked in the healthiest of ways, besides as others have mentioned nuggets are hardly real chicken!

Not a food but rather a drink. I used to be soo dependent on Mountain Dew and Pepsi.. i cut them out trying to watch sugar and caffeine intake.. when i go to a friend's place or anywhere that i feel i have to have some as to not offend someone.. that one sip feels like it burns.. yes i drink sprite and 7up but still.. i end up having stomach aches later in the day if i drank even half a cup... it's like... you put your body through de-tox.. and now you are bringing back what you cleaned out of your system.. your body is objecting to the assault =P

go for a doctor to get checked whether its food poisoning or not or try taking rantidine hydrochloride tablet after eating meat
