The travel firm I was going with goes down

Today I got an email saying my flight to Canada has been canceled because the firm has gone out of business. It was owned by a holiday company that has also gone out of business. I just can't believe it. I was meant to be flying from London to Halifax on 26th June. The email says my money is going to be refunded in a few weeks time. I feel incredibly sad because I was so very much looking forward to going to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. In this recession many companies are going out of business. I know of another airline that goes from London to Halifax but its fares are very expensive for an adult, a child over 2 and an infant. It makes me think back to the time I had booked a flight to Mexico but then that coast got hit by a hurricane. My money that time was given back straight away and then I bought a flight to the Maldives. Late June to July is pricey that is why I booked well in advance and now I have this terrible news.

I really feel bad about this. But after all this is related to business no body can any business in loss especially in the recession. Hard luck now you have to pay more then you were paying earlier for the same route. Best of luck for coming journey.

I am so sorry to hear that your flight has been cancelled. Your story reminds me of a couple friends of ours who were coming to Malta last summer. Their holiday was almost ruined before it had even started. Their company also had gone bust two weeks prior to their arrival in Malta. They received a refund and were able to book through another airline. I hope that you manage to sort out this problem or perhaps select another destination that you long to visit.

I'm sorry to hear about your disappointment. I do hope that you will, at least, get your money back. Travelling with small children (or anyone else), unfortunately, requires some forward planning. If you were on your own, it might be possible to sit in the airport for a cancellation. I hope that you find another, more reliable, package at a suitable price. I take it that you have friends over there so that you are really only looking for a flight.

I am glad you will get your money back. So many don't when something like this happens. I am sorry your plans are canceled. Hopefully you can find another deal.

Very sorry to hear that max. I know you can change your destinstion, and plans, but when we set our hearts, and make a booking for a special holiday, there is no substitute. However, I'm sure you will find something to suit your budget. At least you got your money returned. In many similar cases, the money would be lost. Good luck, and look at it positively.

At least your money are going to refund. It is the biggest sale for airlines right now, so maybe you can buy the tickets one sale. Hope so. We will see ore and more travel agents going out of the business, because internet is the best place to book a ticket.

I'm sorry that happened to you. You had some wonderful plans. To try to duplicate what you had will be difficult. To try to get it at a decent price will be difficult, too. Disappointing, but not surprising. Lots of companies are going under and I think this will be happening more and more-unfortunately.

I guess it would be worse if it had happened right before the trip, but how disappointing. Since you have time, maybe you will be able to book something else though. Stupid economy...

I am so sorry to hear about this, Maxine! I know you had looked forward to this trip so much! I just hope you do get your money back. I know one time several years ago, I had planned to go to Disneyworld with a tour group. We were going to go to Cypress Gardens and Sea World, too. However, it had to be cancelled because they couldn't get up enough people to go. I was told that I would get my money back. It was forever before I finally got it back, though. I called the man who was in charge of the tour group. It was a woman who answered the phone and I threatened to call the better business bureau or go on the news on television about it if I didn't get my money back. His son came to my house the next day and gave me my money back. I said I would never fool with that tour group again. I hope you will get a chance to go to Canada one of these days. In the meantime, I hope you will be able to book another vacation this summer. Kathy.

Wow, that really sucks! I am sorry to hear that as I have been reading about your excitement for the trip for a while here now. It must be so disappointing for you. The worst thing is that you will have to pay more money most likely, if you are even able to book the same trip with someone else. Or you may have to go at a different time of year. Are there still recession problems over there? The economy here is pretty good. I am flying to Norfolk Island a week after your intended trip. Hope mine works out better! What are you going to do now?

If I would be in your situation I would also feel sad especially that the travel has been planned and I'm sure that you've been looking forward for that day to come. I hope you still get a flight with just almost the same price. This has never happened to me before. You said something about a Holiday company. It's not the same company a Holiday Inn Hotel right? Or is it?

I am very sorry to hear that. At the present times, perhaps we should always keep our doors open for other options. Everything became unpredictable now and we just have to learn to deal with it in any way...

I would look for alternative providers. I don't think it's too late. Can you move your vacation up or back? Late June/July are pricey anywhere you go during these timeframes, that's why we set up our family reunion for mid-June.

Oh dear. That is really bad news. Unfortunately, it's happening quite a bit in this economic downturn. I hope you get your money back ok or have insurance to cover it. And I hope you'll be able to go there or soemwhere equally great this year.
