Portugal revived their qualifying campaign for the 2008 European championships with a 3-0 Group A home win over Kazakhstan with two goals by Simao Sabrosa and one by Cristiano Ronaldo. Sabrosa opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a powerful shot from the right penalty area with his right foot deep into the top-right corner after being set up by Deco at the stadium in the central Portuguese city of Coimbra. Ronaldo, who injured his ankle in Manchester United's weekend league game, doubled the host's advantage on the half-hour with a shot from the left channel from just outside the penalty area into the bottom-right corner.
