Portugal revive Euro 2008 campaign with Kazakh win

Portugal revived their qualifying campaign for the 2008 European championships with a 3-0 Group A home win over Kazakhstan with two goals by Simao Sabrosa and one by Cristiano Ronaldo. Sabrosa opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a powerful shot from the right penalty area with his right foot deep into the top-right corner after being set up by Deco at the stadium in the central Portuguese city of Coimbra. Ronaldo, who injured his ankle in Manchester United's weekend league game, doubled the host's advantage on the half-hour with a shot from the left channel from just outside the penalty area into the bottom-right corner. The 21-year-old took a free kick with his right foot from the left channel 12 minutes into the second half, just before he was substituted by Ricardo Quaresma, but it went over the bar. Sabrosa topped off the scoring in the 85th minute with a kick with his right foot from the left goalbox which went high into the net. The visitors made their best effort at scoring in the 23rd minute when captain Nurbol Zhumaskaliev got a good right foot shot from the right penalty area but Portugal keeper Ricardo blocked it in his only save of the
